I also am a safe headed at the ground around the speed of sound (is this starting to sound like a "AA" meeting or what). Are you dropping out while you are turning? If so, its probably that you are speeding up you fallrate (not flying as big) during your turn. If you are that close to the limits of you fallrate maybe your friends might try putting on a little lead? On the 4-way team I jump on I used to have to wear like 16 pounds (and at the time I weighed 210). It sucked to have to wear weights but its what we needed to have the fallrate the same. My understanding is that Jack wants Dave to come back again this year. Dave and I have shot a couple of e-mails back and forth but I don't know if he has spoken to Jack yet to firm things up. There is also talk of a big name freefly organizer for this year as well (they don't have the deal finished up with him so I won't say who yet). Sounds like I will be fun jumping all weekend. I have a neck injury that is keeping me from shooting video (although I'm still doing the boogie video). If its not healed by the boogie I won't be able to fly camera (but we still have plenty that can) so I will have to fun jump all weekend..... Some how I don't think I will be healed by then!! Now THAT is FUNNY!!!!! (note to self... never read something that funny while eating a twix bar.... it makes the screen look funny) I remember people that go to the church that my dad pastors at (Baptist) being worried when 2000 came along. It was funny to me to hear stories of how some of them were hiding in their basements (even though dad had asked them why they would try to hide from God.) Wow, what a great illustration of how "some people" can take a holy book and interpret what is written in that book to mean what ever they want. Isn't this exactly what the Muslim extremists are doing with another holy book? Being a "PK" I was pretty sure I had studied the areas of the bible you are referring to, but just in case I went back and re-read them. I'm somewhat confused.... I can't find a reference to the good old U.S.A or America anywhere in the Bible. Nor can I find the name George W. Bush listed anywhere. Perhaps you have a different version than I (and the rest of the world) have, please enlighten me as to the book, chapter, and verse that this is written. Ok, that last line was all sarcasm.... But I couldn't help it So why would someone as smart as God write a book to humanity that is a guide on how to live and so on and then put in all this "coded" stuff you refer to? Where is the book that tells us what is "coded" and what is not? If there is not a book or scroll or parchment with this information who says what anyone thinks is "coded" is really coded? Its interesting to me that people can't seem to take anything at face value. The people seem to have the need to re-invent things every so often to say its "new." Agreed, they are (or can be) difficult to pull down. The point I was making is that I would rather land a 280 manta with no flare than run the risk of a malfunction with my reserve that has the potential to be worse than landing the manta with no flare. While I can understand your point, I think its sad that its the case that some people out there feel that way. It was (IMO) one of the short comings that the new ISP (regardless if its liked as a total package or not) fills. Its good that we now have students doing canopy work with rear risers as well as other flight characteristics. Its also a great reason for getting canopy coaching. I agree. I land my Katana on rears (both swooping and not loaded at 2.0) on a regular basis. I don't understand why a person would want to roll the dice on the reserve if the main is landable. It seems to me that its possible that I might make the situation worse if I had a function on my reserve. I know it doesn't seem likely that the reserve will malfunction, but it is possible. 6) Anyone CAN land if necessary in either the swoop area or the non-swoop area. I know that at first this sounds like it defeats the purpose of having separate landing sites... But I overheard a low time up jumper tell his buddies he took a down winder cause he was trying to stay out of the swoop area. If 6) happens and you are the swooper landing in the non-swoop area - don't swoop... If 6) happens and you are the non-swooper landing in the swoop area - don't spiral to 200ft and just sit above the landing area (and this goes as well for making "S" turns). One of the guys at our DZ went to the tunnel and it fixed him... He got to come back (from the tunnel) and it was like "Who are you and what did you do with the other guy that looked just like you but couldn't fall stable?" Aside from the sarcastic part of the story it REALLY helped him a lot and he is now a good skydiver. He said he just needed a little more time in freefall to work out the problems he was having.
