  1. You bring up a great point with your comments. I noticed last year in the CASL that a lot of the teams adjust their leg straps while in the plane at around 11,000 feet. I'm not sure where that habit comes from.... But its one that I wish people would do without! Pendejo He who swoops the ditch and does not get out buys the BEER!!
  2. While the bulk of the article is regarding the attempt to obtain bank information illegally, the opening paragraph states... "WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Internet companies and law-enforcement agencies said on Wednesday they will work together to track down online scam artists who pose as banks and other legitimate businesses, a practice known as "phishing." If you go to the google web site and type in Skydive South Carolina, you will find the top return to be a web site for a business that does not exist. The argument that it is a link to the marketing firm does not really hold true. Note that they say that "Skydive South Carolina" operates turbin aircraft 7 days a week 365 days per year. In the "restaurants/hotels section they list hotels in the St. George area. I called them this morning and was told that they are only a booking agent for drop zones in the area (although Blue Sky Adventures in St. Goerge is not one of them), but their DZ was located in Georgia. When asked about why the web site stated they were "Skydive South Carolina" the response was we are a booking agency. When I informed them that did not answer my question the response was the same. This is clearly a web site posing as a legitimate business that does not exist, and that makes the article relevant. Pendejo He who swoops the ditch and does not get out buys the BEER!!
  3. There is a story that appeared on Reuters news site yesterday that I believe relates to this thread. http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=internetNews&storyID=7031443§ion=news (How do they do that "clicky" thing) Pendejo Pendejo He who swoops the ditch and does not get out buys the BEER!!
  4. We bought the Phillips DVD burner for our video concession about 4 months ago. It has worked great! The "Finalize" time is annoying... But for the $$$ I think its a great value. Pendejo Pendejo He who swoops the ditch and does not get out buys the BEER!!
  5. If Michigan Suits were the only suits available... I would jump naked (at 5'10 and 220lbs that isn't pretty). I am one of the several people that Darkwing was referring to. I am not quite as politically correct as he is (not that you could tell).... When our suits came in (we ordered 6 at ounce) there were fit problems across the board. At first we thought is was poor measuring... But the suits were measured by the same person and the problems were not the same with every suit. I can live with the suit not being "right". What I can't live with and what has caused the people at our DZ to order elsewhere in the future is that when we called Michigan to see about getting the problems addressed we were told it could not possibly be a build issue (kinda strong statement huh) and we would all have to pay to have the suits altered so they would fit... The stitching and construction of the suit is quite good, but the sizing seems to be a universal problem (look in the gear reviews). Some sizing issues are expected but the customer service we received was without a doubt the bottom of the barrel.... My wife and I are going to order 2 new Bev suits this week. 6. I have two that were kinda scary. 1. Deploying my canopy on a tandem video and having a spinning mal (line twists on a stel 135). Got rolled to my back, went to cut away, wings from the wing jacket covering my handles. I didn't notice till I had already "cracked" the cut away handle loose. 2. On an AFF level 1 jump (as vidiot) I had both jump masters track underneath me and deploy while I was filming the students opening... 7. I'll be shooting mostly tandems and AFF. The money difference is so small that it is not relevant. I just don't know when I will be flying with more than one video camera at a time on my head. I have made around 500 video jumps with just one video camera up top at a time. Pendejo He who swoops the ditch and does not get out buys the BEER!!
  8. I know this is a gear question but I really want the video peoples take on the flat top narrow. Is there anyone out there that has had good (or bad) experiences with this helmet? Pendejo He who swoops the ditch and does not get out buys the BEER!!

  11. Hi! Darkwing is correct. I am his teammate and in my opinion there is no better helmet than the FreeZR on the market. The fit and feel of the helmet are second to none (and yes I have jumped more than just that helmet). I agree with him that the Havoc is better than the FreeZR for someone who wears glasses. I have jumped mine a couple of times with sun glasses on and the Havoc is easier (flip up face so you can leave the glasses on while you are putting on the helmet). The FreeZR relies on the padding to keep the helmet on your head as well as in place while you are in freefall. This makes the glasses a little uncomfortable with the tight padding. 13. You are correct! Every tandem master I have jumped with (appox 400 tandem vids) has a little different exit count. After a while you will learn each of their "counts" and the exits will go fine. Remember that it is about the passengers safety first and GREAT video second. Its better to leave a little to early in the beginning and keep them in frame than to leave right with them and wind up in the mix while they are tumbling... I leave just as the tandem master starts to rock forward to exit (or on set and a half if you will). I fly the first two or three seconds with my hands under my rig to get the max fall rate I can. Remember that the reason you are so far away has to do with the relative wind as well as exit timing. The tandem is going to "fall" or get greater "throw" into the relative wind which means that you will need to arch harder than with a 4-way exit. Be carefull about people telling you that all you need to do is leave later to get closer. You can wind up in a very bad situation if you don't pay attention. I.E. have the flap on a strong tandem rig come open and your ring site gets caught in the 2 feet of bridel that is under there. I know this because I was lucky enough to have a REALLY heads up tandem master hold the drouge long enough for me to clear the problem, and was very lucky that I COULD clear the problem. Take baby steps in getting closer on exit and you will be fine. Pendejo He who swoops the ditch and does not get out buys the beer! 14. Open your project in Premier. With your camera turned on (but not on "pause") plug in your firewire. start the project playing. you should see the project playing on your cameras LCD.(note that on your computer screen it will look like the play back of a really bad web cast and there will be no sound). sometimes I have to start the project playing before my camera will "recognize" the video stream. then press stop in Premier and move the cursor on the time line to the beginning (if you have black video in the beginning of the time line the screen on the camera should be black). Press record on your camera as you would to firewire other video and then press start in Premier. Pendejo Pendejo He who swoops the ditch and does not get out buys the BEER!!
  15. I have about a dozen jumps on my FreeZR helmet. The rep I talked to was Ken Krueger with Paratec USA. I found the service to be great! They shipped me a demo to try with in 4 days of calling them. The helmet comes standard with one pad set (there are 5 sizes available). I had to do a little mixing and matching of the pad sets to get a good fit. When I jumped the pad set from the same size the helmet moved around a lot when diving and tracking. When I "mixed and matched" the pads from two sizes the problem completely went away. It has great ventilation across the visor both in freefall and under canopy (very little fogging) and the visor is much easier to get open under canopy. My only complaint is that the lexan (very cool) visor does not come up as high as my Z-1 did. Its kind of a nuisance but it didn't stop me from buying the helmet. It seems to be put together quite well, although so did my Z-1 when I first got it. It will be interesting to see how the elastic and fabric holds up on the bottom of the helmet (my Z-1 didn't come loose for almost 150 jumps). All in all I think its is the best helmet on the market for the money. Only time will tell how it holds up and how the customer service will be (to date the customer service has been absolutely second to none). 16. I got the FreeZR in the mail on Tuesday. It has the best field of vision I have jumped to date. I also had issues with the helmet moving around a little when diving at a formation and when tracking off at break off time. I did a little mixing and matching of the liners and the problem went away completely. I have only put 4 jumps on it to date. When I have more jumps on it I'll post a full report, but all the erarly stuff looks really really good.

  18. A good friend of mine jumped the entire time he had braces. He shot camera for the 4-way team I jump on. He did have a problem with falling into the back of the team (it was NOT pretty). That had him on the ground while his mouth healed for a while... Pendejo Pendejo He who swoops the ditch and does not get out buys the BEER!!
  19. Sorry Stratostar, I don't do flame posts. I think you are not taking the post I make in the context it was meant so I will clarify it. I agree that there are a lot of people that charge money for sub-par work on the part of the videographer (although I think we all need to remember when we started and how hard it was). The post was what the video concession conditions are at BSA (I run the concession). We have just make a transition from an owner who didn't believe he needed to make money on every facet of his business. After a summer of not having a regular DZ to jump at I feel that the DZ must make money where it can (having to drive 3 hours to jump sucks). To date we have been doing non-liner editing (that will change next week CAJONES YOU ARE THE MAN) on a pc. As for the money we ALL spend on our gear, The DZO would argue that they spend around $10,000 per tandem rig to allow both us and them the opportunity to make money. That being said, I think the money we choose to spend is our choice (to a certain extent). As for me thinking that video guys "just strap on a camera" that is a comment that a rookie would make, not someone who has over 8000 skydives. Anyone who flies more than 1 or 2 video jumps per week knows that is obviously not the case. Unfortunately most non Video people have no clue how the added weight, stress (if you have ever blown a tandem passengers 18th birthday video because of a technical problem you know what I mean), and demands put on the body can turn it from just a "fun jump" into real work. As for the rest it sounds like you have some issues to work out with our DZO. Pendejo Pendejo He who swoops the ditch and does not get out buys the BEER!!

  21. Most containers will work fine for shooting tandems. Be aware that there are some deployment systems that are more "Camera suit" friendly than others. I used to jump a pull out (and still would if I didn't shoot with wings), I had serious deployment issues, i.e. riser strikes and so on. A pull out will work with wings, but be VERY aware at pull time. Pendejo Pendejo He who swoops the ditch and does not get out buys the BEER!!

  24. Freakflyguy, There is more to the story than the DZ "just keeping" the other 30 dollars. 1) The video guy does not do any of the editing work. 2) The video guy does not supply the vhs tapes to use for editing. 3) The video guy does not own the editing equipment to do the editing with. It may not be the same at every DZ but at the ones that are charging big bucks and paying the video guy's big bucks there is alot more to it than just keeping the rest of the money. Remember... it isn't a non profit org. Pendejo Pendejo He who swoops the ditch and does not get out buys the BEER!!
  25. At BSA we charge $165 for the tandem, $70 for video, and $85 for video and stills. The video guy get paid $40 for the Video and $50 for video and stills. Pendejo Pendejo He who swoops the ditch and does not get out buys the BEER!!
