  1. PFUEGO! It looks like the team will be in chester in a couple weeks to get in some practice. Thanks for the elastic do-hicky thingy thought. I'll have Siete look into it for me. The cut away sucked (BUT IT DID FIND ALL MY SHIT!! WOO HOO!!)... But after I saw the brake line on video I went back through some of my past stuff and found it happens a LOT more than I would have guessed. It looks like it is happening around 1 in 30 jumps. Thats way to many to let it stay like it is. Pendejo "gotta fix that" Rodriguez Pendejo He who swoops the ditch and does not get out buys the BEER!!
  2. I understand and agree with Quade. I don't think the wings had ANYTHING to do with the canopy "spinning" up. The video shows I was flat, happy, and stable when I pulled. The wings DID come into play when I went to cut away the main. If I had been jumping a more conservative canopy it might have happened the same way but I doubt that the spin would have been as severe. 3. I thought about putting this in the incidents section but I wanted to be sure the camera people see it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ While shooting a tandem video over the weekend I had my first cut away (yes I bought beer). I jump a top mounted camera in a d-box and a Stiletto 135 loaded at 1.7\1 I have 1033 total jumps with a little over 400 camera jumps (with at least 250 of them jumping my Tony Suit wing jacket). After rolling over from getting the opening shot I deployed my main (at 3800 feet) Had 4 wraps of line twists and had to cut away... Thats where it all starts to get exciting. I fought the line twists until the spinning main rolled me in a position where my back was to the earth (not good). At that point I gave up and went to cut away. When I reached for my cut away handle my wings collapsed over it (Remember I was on my back with the wind coming from behind me) so that when I pulled the handle I was also pulling the wing. Needless to say the handle only moved about 3 inches before the wing started interfering. When the handle stopped moving forward and down I looked to see what the problem was, I will not write the words that followed in this forum, but I'm sure you can figure that out for yourselves. So there I am spinning on my back with the cut away handle and my wing all wrapped up together.... I hooked the cables with my thumb and managed to release one riser then the other (that was a wild ride in its self). After getting rid of the main I rolled over and deployed my reserve at 2200 feet landed in the main landing area and finished the tandem video. After reviewing the video there were three things that I found that I would do different. 1: Not stowing the excess brake line on my Mirage G3 is not a good idea. The loop missed my camera by less than a couple of inches. 2: Fighting the line twists until I was rolled to my back was NOT a good idea. 3: Not keeping an eye on the cut away handle until my hands are on it was also not a good idea. 4. There was a time when I made fun of the guys that jumped a "throw and hope". I had over 500 jumps on my pull out when I started flying camera. The problem I found was that it wasn't a weird deployment every time. About 8 out of 10 times it was a normal deployment and opening (If there is such a thing as normal outside of the setting on the washing machine). I tried all the things that you are describing. i.e. letting the pilot chute be taken out of my hand by the wind and so on. No matter what I did I couldn't beat the 2 out of 10 bad deployments (and yes I was flat, stable, and looking at the horizon). After about 50 jumps with the wings I bought a Mirage G3 with the freefly handle. I haven't had a bad deployment in the last 320 video jumps. I'm not saying the pull out is a bad system, cause I still miss mine for hop and pops (and all the other arguments that rage between the two deployment systems). We went up and did some video of me deploying. It showed the pilot chute leaving my hand fully inflated only to be sucked back into the burble (I jump a Tony jacket). One of the riggers said he felt it had more to do with the bridle length from the pilot chute to the d-bag than anything else. I'm not a rigger, nor am I completely sold on my throw out, but changing to the throw out did fix the deployment problems with my wings. 5. Quade you are correct. with 6.0 or 6.5 when you change the speed (slower or faster) of the video the data code goes away! Pendejo Pendejo He who swoops the ditch and does not get out buys the BEER!!
  6. I have a RADON fire wire card. I like it really well. I edit with Premiere 6.5. I know there are a lot of people that have had trouble with it. I guess I am one of the lucky ones. I also have the dreaded 845 chip set that every one complains about. My system works great (thank you Cajones). 7. I don't know if this will work for you, but the last time I had to re-glue my Z1 helmet the rigging loft in Lake Whales told me to use shoe goo. It worked a lot better than using hot glue. You can get shoe goo at just about any Wal-Mart. Pendejo "Home less" Rodriguez he who swoops the ditch... oh wait... they aren't there any more.. 9. This is a great question! I find myself in an interesting situation. The DZ where I have shot video at closed its doors last weekend. I found myself at a new DZ about 2 hours away from my home. The DZO welcomed myself and the other fun jumpers with open arms (much better reception than the cessna dz less than 1 mile from my home). When I asked if they needed video for tandems they told me there is a 500 jump min. and other requirements. I felt that was a much better than just being told "sure... we would love to have you, can you make the next load?" I think both safety and performance are important. If your un-safe people get hurt and thats bad for the DZ. If your performance is bad, then thats bad advertising for the DZ. Both are of the same importance. Pendejo HE WHO SWOOPS THE DITCH.... 11. A good friend of mine just bought one. It looks very cool. Its a little shorter than the trv30 that I own but is also wider. We tried it in the D-box I have and it will not fit. If you plan to use a D-box with it I would call and see if they make a box that size. 12. If you are using "A/B" editing, it should show after you render the video. I don't know a lot about single track editing. The only way I edit is in a/b mode. In a/b mode the top line is for titles and over lays. after putting your title in the space you want on the time line you will need to render it, then it will show in the preview. 13. I agree with Phree... Our DZ jumps Strongs. But don't be fooled, they still move forward on deployment. I like to pop up and inflate my wings at pull time. I can stay with them for about 3 seconds during the snivel. I was to close once and the only thing that kept me from getting kicked was dumb luck. The tandem student actually saw me as they were coming by and pulled her feet back. It made for a great shot, but was one of the dumbest things I have ever done. You can get just a great shot from 5-6 feet back without getting you head taken off and the tandem student will be just as happy. 14. Hi! I don't jump a camara suit. I jump a camara jacket made by Tony suits. I can say that with a pull out and the wing jacket there is a VERY large burble. I am in the process of changing rigs and deployment systems because of the pilot chute getting caught in the burble. The rig change is because I wanted one not because I need one (could have just changed to a throw out). I don't know about the reserve getting caught in the burble as it gets a better launch. Pendejo
