Landing on your butt: risk vs likelihood?
wasatchrider replied to eatfastnoodle's topic in Safety and Training
I came from a quite differnt background and learned to land parachutes long before skydiving and actually have stood up every skydive landing ever yey me. When learning to land though I did have many skid in landings from my feet and one low turn to hip check never right on my butt... brusing a tailbone sucks. I wouldnt try to land on my butt with any sort of speed or fast decent. BASE 1519 -
probably someone helping a friend get their rating. I went on a tandem a few weeks ago to help my friend graduate but I wasn't having as much fun as this guy tandems are scary. BASE 1519

why not just buy a cheap setup for 1500-2000 jump it a 100 times then sell it for what you paid when you are ready to downsize. I dont get the whole long term rental thing everyone does BASE 1519

Which "Beginner" Suit?: Phantom 3 vs Swift
wasatchrider replied to Maurix's topic in Wing Suit Flying
of course you do with a skydive rig you probably have 3 second snivels but Id like to see that with base gear and not get spun up BASE 1519 -
It's to slow the opening. We BASE jump at slower speeds without one to open fast. We use a tailgate to prevent line overs slider down. Skydiving people collapse and stow slider to open up the risers for more performance and less drag. BASE 1519

well no one wants you to jump with full PMS anyways BASE 1519

getting my foot in the door
wasatchrider replied to smorente's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
If you looking for base jumpers slc has over 50 that live here. They are not active all the time but a lot of jumping is done here not that it would matter if your just starting to skydive. BASE 1519 -

Well, that does in no way mean that base and wearing a camera for regular skydives requires the same skills, attitude or level of experience, or that the risks involved are at all similar. It just means that neither activity is suitable for a beginner. Also keep in mind that a skydive is very, very short. 200 skydives is about 3 hours of freefall. And almost everybody wears a camera eventually while almost nobody goes into base. More than 100 skydivers a year apply and get their base numbers I would assume double that who do not get their numbers I would assume that would mean that more than 300 skydivers take up base each year a lot do not continue with base one course does over 100 a year by themselves not a lot compared to skydiving but base is getting pretty popular BASE 1519
