  1. > and maybe the 3' bridle with no PC might be the better option than a knot on a bridle Well. When I know that I am going to do a SL jump, I rig my gear with my Special Bridle, which is nothing else than a 5.5mm-0.22" - 2.74m-9' dyneema rope, with sewn end loops, finger trapped curved pin and a "permanent" knot 30 cm - 1' close to PC attachment; but, being my Special Bridle a dyneema rope, whenever/wherever necessary I make an additional 8 knot and there I tie my CWY (Carry With You) with break cord and whatever else needed. For low SL jumps, as well as for ANY SL jump, I keep my trusted 48" "special" PC (it's special because it's a ZP PC built on the Asylum shape, it's actual 48" and has got NO vent on apex). > By the way, If I am that low I'd rather d-bag: faster than the best S/L or PCA, no anchor, and great heading. So what if it's old school No problem, in fact. When it's extremely low, we do to use DB. But, in this case, there would the necessity of having one asshol.... ehhmmm... one bloke who is NOT jumping and who holds the DB. Done few times, but if all the blokes in the load are jumping, here we go with SL. Or, a "fast procedure" is what we did once off a 51 m - 167 ft water tower. We were 5. #726 did PCA to the first three; I PCAed #726, while I had already setup my SL, and last (but not least ) off I came down SLing Stay safe out there Blue Skies and Soft Walls BASE #689 - base_689AT_NO_123_SPAMyahoo.com
  2. > Honestly I would not put any knots on the bridle and 8 feet less of FF won't add anything, really. Keep it for yourself, Nick!!! No offence!!!!! There are fucking low sites where 1-1.5 m of height makes some difference, believe me!!!!!!! In my latest very low SL jump, I made a loop in my bridle at the closest (to pin) point possible (still, it had to be compatible with myself standing up) Stay safe out there Blue Skies and Soft Walls BASE #689 - base_689AT_NO_123_SPAMyahoo.com
  3. > you think the marketing people made that logo on purpose? Actually, it's the other way around. The creator of the logo created the logo and left it in a drawer for few years. Then he decided to use it as the log for a new brand of clothes. From there, it was born the success (at least, in Europe)

  5. > What the hell is up with the Italian goal scorer sucking his thumb????? How gay was that??!!! No, it's not gay. It's a long story. Among the journalists of Roma, Totti was nicknamed (long time ago...) "pupone" (="big baby"), so Totti, as soon as he scored the penalty, he sucked his thumb to pull the legs of journalists who are still calling him "pupone". What a sweet revenge: "Yes, you can call me 'pupone', still I scored a very important goal!!!!!" Stay safe out there Blue Skies and Soft Walls BASE #689 - base_689AT_NO_123_SPAMyahoo.com

  8. > a perfect strange goes and explores a base jump and you take offense Yes, indeed. I take offense too, because there is NO point in: 1) not contacting locals 2) looking for GPS coordinates on Internet 3) there is no clue about level of training of jumper asking info A BASE site is WAY MORE than GPS coordinates. Granted you know the coordinates of exit point, how the fuck do you get to it? It's 1 h hike, how on hell do you approach it? 13. I'm 46. Let's say that once it is downloaded onto my mobile, I play it at max volume with loudspeaker on and with same mobile at 2"-5 cm off my ear, I can hear a hissing high frequency sound, very, very feeble. I can hear "something". When played on PC: nothing. No sound at all. So, let's say that if it is played on somebody else's mobile at least at 3 ft-1 m distance, for me it would be IMPOSSIBLE to hear. 14. > Thats Funny. My Daughter started Racing when she was 8 years old... OK, my friend. If we talk by exceptions, then, let's stop ANY argument. OK, few kids can drive and so on and so on. Yes, also in Italy it is possible for kids to drive small cars and so on, but how many kids do that?!?!?!?!? Now, tell me, please: how many kids in the world can play soccer and how many kids in the world can drive a car and do races?!?!?!?!? Soccer can be played by ANY kid on the world, cars can be driven only by few non-poor kids in few places in the world.... Think on how many poor kids in South America can (and do) play soccer, and think now how many of them can drive a car and do races.... I am afraid that what happens in few places in US is NOT what happens all over (the rest of) the world.... Stay safe out there Blue Skies and Soft Walls BASE #689 - base_689AT_NO_123_SPAMyahoo.com
  15. > I may be wrong, but I thought Formula (Indy) racing was the most followed and watched sport? First: one thing is Formula 1 (cars with Formula 1 rules and races all over the world) and another thing is Indy Formula (cars with Indy Formula rules and races only is in US territory). I do not know about people all over the world watching Indy Formula, for sure people all over the world follow Formula 1, but actually I do not know HOW MANY people follow it. Something really different, anyway, between Formula 1 and soccer, is that Formula 1 can only be watched and followed, soccer can be watched and followed AND played by ANY kid in the world, what it is needed is only a ball and a field/street/flat surface. For sure soccer is the sport which is practiced and played by the highest number of people in the world, considering as players ALL the real players, not only the "enlisted in official teams members". Think only about how many kids in Europe and South America do play soccer just for fun, without ever been enlisted in official teams of any sort (myself included, since when I was a kid until I was 18 (but I played few tournaments when I was at University)). There is NO WAY a kid can drive a Formula 1 car (or ANY car) and do a race. Formula 1: only followed and watched. Soccer: followed and watched AND played
  16. > Did anyone see Brazil yesterday? Unbelievable what those guys can do with their feet I watched the Brazil/Croatia match. Brazil came to the World Cup this year with a crappy team indeed, "crappy" meant as "crappy as a whole team". Indeed, in Brazilian team there are folks extremely fit and in shape that can do the difference. Kaka and Ronaldinho are a span over the others, they can solve the match in one single shot (Kaka proved it). All the rest of Brazilians are "average" players, up now... Hope for them they experience a breakthrough in performances (Ronaldo is a buoy, I am afraid). Stay safe out there Blue Skies and Soft Walls BASE #689 - base_689AT_NO_123_SPAMyahoo.com

  18. > Soccer = Boring Game. For you. > Very Little if any scoring Is the "quality" of a game only measured on the "quantity" of score?!?!?!?!? Naaaaaaa!!!!!! So what about sports where there no score (meant as "quantity") as gymnastic, dives and similar? While the sportman is doing it, he/she is alone, so he/she doesn't score anything.... The "quantity" of score, I am afraid, is NOT a point on ANY sport. > Just a bunch of guys running back and forth not accomplishing much. Nope American just don’t get that game. Yes, indeed. It's YOUR opinion. It's YOUR opinion as a (North) American. I am afraid SOCCER is the most praticed and followed and watched sport in the WORLD. As an Italian, I am myself a "poor" follower of soccer, but, indeed, it's a fact that soccer has got the highest number of practitioners/players in the world with respect to ANY other sport. Soccer is very popular in Europe, Central America, South America, "something" in Asia, growing a lot in Africa (lots of fucking good African players playing in Europe), "something" in Australia (few Ozies play in UK too). Sorry about that. It's just a fact that soccer is the most popular sport in the world. You, like it or not. Me, like it or not. Soccer is NOT the best sport in the world, it's just the most popular. 21. > What would happen if someone put ice cream on your "thingy?" Well, I haven't ever tried exctly that, but I think that if properly fluffed before hand and during ice cream application, it should remain stiff. Personally, I can say that when I had made love while bathing at the seaside (cool water all around your body), it took me longer to have an erection (=longer with respect to "normal" environment), but when erection took place, it was a good one. 22. > Surefire Flashlight: I was thinking of getting one Some tiome ago I noticed these very nice flahslights by Surefire: outstanding pieces of equipment, but jolly fucking expensive. Unless you are "desperate" needing EXACTLY an original Surefire Flashlights, you can go on eBay and look for "5W Luxeon Star LED Handtorch Flashlight": I bought a couple of them for 55$ each, their maximum output is 120 lumen, and you can have them have outputs of 100%, 50%, 25% (plus, blinking mode). Yes, they are NOT as robust as a Surefire original light, but if you are not WORKING with them (going out and use it every single night) such a "fake" flashlight works jolly good indeed. Yes, the front glass is NOT crystal but plastic material (still good if you are not using the flashlight for a whole continuous hour) but the body it is still made from aluminium and it is waterproof, quite robust I would say. Furthermore, I bought rechargeable CR123A batteries, but after the recharge process they come out with too high voltage, such as my flashlight recognize such a high voltage and refuses to light up. I am waiting they (=batteries) self-discharge a little bit and I will give them another try in my flashlight. Hope it helps. 23. > ...with the caveat that I don't really jump anything under 400'. I don't think I am adding avoidable risk. In fact. As I supposed. There is something very personal in BASE jumps. One the very personal things is the "lowest" freefall any BASE jumper is going to do (and stowed/handheld is a detail of that). Lowest jump I and my mates have ever done is freefall from 65 m - 213 ft (below that, we go SL). Of course, handheld and S-folds only on mesh (ZP loose open). Few weeks ago I did my second (ever) stowed jump off a 95 m - 312 ft bridge. Few mates of mine usually go stowed not below that 95 m - 312 ft mark. But when it's windy, they go handheld. BTW, my mates stow ANY size of PC (48", 46" and smaller): with a good supermushroom technique you can stow ANY size of PC. Last week I was going to go stowed off that 95 m - 312 ft bridge but because of high winds I simply removed my supermushroom packed PC off my BOC and I jumped it keeping that "stuff" handheld. When it's windy and depending also on which direction the wind is coming from, the possibility that PC goes in front of you is NOT zero, so, why take additional risk? If properly done (and it's not that difficult), handheld PC deployments have never failed. IMHO, going stowed in a "low" jump could look cool and elegant, but when it's "low" and/or windy, a good throw starting from handheld cannot go (reasonably) go wrong. Going stowed, "could" go wrong. So, it's up to you. Additionally, it could be done something I call "half stowed". My "half stowed" is done as follows. You go on exit point stowed with your best supermushroom PC packing: when you are actualy to jump, you simply jump with your right hand already on the "handle" (center of ZP cloth filled with mesh/s-folded bridle) and after the planned delay, you "simply" throw your PC off your side; going "half stowed" just be careful you can master you standard best exit with the strange body attitude keeping a hand "fixed" AT your BOC; beyond that (=stable exit in an unusual body "attitude"), there is NO possibility of missing your PC (still there exists a slight possibility for a weak throw, but that's another story). 24. > What do you personally do - hand held or stowed? Going stowed for short delays is COMPULSORY only in case the exit point is hard to reach (=you need both hands to climb/to move around) and/or a loose bridle can easily get caught somewhere in the structure (I am thinking about metallic lattice structures and other types of objects that have got metallic pieces protruding everywhere near exit point). Remember that when going handheld you must have your S-folded PC in your hand BEFORE getting to exit point. "BEFORE" means several meters/feet within exit point, you must "do it" into your hand where you are still safe and there is NO danger of falling off accidentally. So, indeed, there are cases of low jumps where/when going stowed is not an option (=it would be really difficult/dangerous to move around with one and half hand and all that loose bridle). Apart from those few cases of low jumps where going stowed is mandatory, going handheld has got a lot of advantages. Handheld: it is easy to launch/release the PC in clean air and it is indeed very difficult to launch a handheld PC very bad, so bad that it gets hesitations. Stowed: you must pack your big PC (48"/46") very carefully (and be careful where you stow the (excess) bridle, I would warmly suggest the "supermushroom techique" by Johnny Utah when packing a big PC for low BASE jumps), you must throw your stowed PC in clean air far away from your body, it is not that difficult but it can be not too difficult to have a crappy throw, in which case that (weak/poor) throw can make your day rapidly deteriorating.
