  1. This is what one looked like after deploying. HW
  2. I was on BOD '74 - '80. I know of no comprenensive old timers' site. There is the Project PI site by Thom Lyons, which was always full of spelling errors and half-truths; he has lost interest. In any case, it's limited generally to the PI sites at Orange, Lakewood, Elsinore, Hemet and Crawfordsville. I've recently scanned in a lot of my old transparencies, some from the late 60s, exciting stuff like a C9 and reserve out at the same time. In the Bill Ottley Parachutist tribute spread, one of these pix appears --WHO in the bowl at Orange. I'd be happy to put a few on your page if you want. HW
  3. The site is maybe useful for getting on Kim's list but is out of date -- still announcing the Spring 2005 reunion. Guestbook is full of spam. For us old farts (I was on USPA BOD with your dad), the reunions are fun (though I was embarassed at the last one I went to because I was the only guy without a jacket and tie.) HW
  4. Mike and Dee live in New Hampshire. He often is seen at Jumptown, Orange, MA. I have his email address; if you will pm me identifying yourself, I'll ask if he wants me to give it to you. HW
  5. Hadn't known about Extreme Overclocking. Cool site, indeed. Just trying to get DZ.com up higher in the rankings. (I'm at #20, having only restarted to contribute a couple of weeks ago.) HW
  6. In March, 2003, Cajones started a thread, "Saving Lives with your computer," about the distributed computing effort to explore the secret life of proteins. While there has been no discussion here for some time, DZ.commers continue to contribute to this effort. The latest certificate of achievement is attached. Currently Flygurl is the hands-down leader in contributions. I contributed for a while under a different user name, and have recently started up again. If you have a computer that's on all the time, has spare cycles, and, preferably, is always on line, consider signing up. Info at:http://folding.stanford.edu/ The DZ.com team # is 31515. HW

    Tony Bennett

I have seen Tony Bennett several times in the coffee shop near where he lives in Manhattan. Just plain folks. HW
  8. Doesn't this question need to be refined to ask whether the customer gets "real digital" DVD or a DVD burn from an analog VHS tape? (Clearly advertised as such, it is to be hoped.) HW
  9. Hmmm.... There's also a Casa boogie at Pepperell, MA the same weekend. An over-saturation of Casas in the Northeast? HW
  10. Get'em ALL at: http://www.chutinggallery.com/services/fun/parachute_songbook.pdf Enjoy HW
  11. This is the cover of the June, 1975, Argosy magazine. The article inside was written by one Bill Ottley, describing his "top half" finish in the '74 Tahlequah Nationals. Winner: "Jack Brake,21-year-old sergeant." An inside photo shows a ~24-way round: "Group jumping stunts known as 'Special Work' involve perfect timing." HW
  12. Well, I found the issue and just to set the "record
  13. I was wondering how long it would be before this happened. It will provide me an excuse for finally buying an iPod. HW
  14. I found this picture at home recently; no idea where it came from. It's a real photo, not a postcard, but has no ID info. You can see jumpers in the doors. Any clue as to what it is and where it might have been taken? Japan, maybe? HW
  15. Jumptown landing area: A: huge sandy Para-Bowl in center, built for 1962!! World Meet. Now used mostly by < C license holders. Wires and ASOS are relatively new obstacles. B: "bowlette," area to north of runway 32 and east of clubhouse. Mostly A and B license holders. C: area immediately behind clubhouse, fine for C&Ds and tandems D: open grass field east of entrance driveway. Big. Power lines along driveway. D will probably be a popular option when there are >50 canopies in the air. More questions? HW
  16. I think you should look at www.419eater.com HW
  17. (Since I can't edit my original post any more) Thanks to MikeFB... for his post. My slider was in fact on a Volplane. I still have the hydraulic reefing system in my garage; the slider made the canopy reliably jumpable. (The Volplane itself got eaten by a Cessna prop several years ago--no injuries or damage except to the canopy) One cool thing about the Volplane for demo jumps was that you could pull the toggles all the way down, then let them up rapidly. Canopy would surge in front of you, then behind. From the ground it looked like you looped the canopy. I wouldn't try that on my Sabre. HW
  18. Yup, Greg Yarbinet. I had one of his early ones. HW
  19. John I assume you've seen yourself here: http://projectpi.skydiveworld.com/Pipeople.htm On the same pages is a picture of what looks like my FJC ticket, $35 at Orange in 1965. Jumptown Orange Otter tix to 13.5 are now $22 for members, $23 others. HW
  20. Aside from the expense, the Pilatus has (I think still) a fatal flaw for skydiving. A couple of years ago I got a ride in a brand new one flown by a ferry/sales pilot who was also a jumper. He said the big door is structural and therefore cannot be removed for flight. (He speculated Pilatus would work on this for the future when they might otherwise be cheap enough to be used as jump planes.) HW

    XM radio

It's more than speculation -- it's fact. Happens at the end of his current contract, which I think is the end of 2005. I have Sirius, but not for Stern. Lots of good stuff. Both Sirius and XM have web sites so you can compare their offerings. HW
  22. OK, you want proof that these guys really do RW? And you can they're really jumping out of an airplane, 'cus it's winnnnndy? HW
  23. The attached picure is on the top of the Epson web site: http://www.epson.com I'm idly curious about who it is and where it was taken. Ideas? HW
  24. Add Ted Strong to that list. He used to own a 180. Also Mike Truffer And, of course, Bill Ottley And Lew Sanborn.. I knew him before he smashed in his face flying his Luscombe into wires. and on and on.... HW
