  1. Not for awhile but back in early 2000,s once on a spinning mal and once with a broken zipper. Dont just talk about it, Do it!
  2. Time on market will also affect your price. For example one of the strongest factors is simply demand. Recently with the release of a number of very high end performance canopies there have been a huge number of velocities on the market. This allows buyers to pick and choose and drive competitive negotiation so irrelevant of your believed canopy price the market will drive it down. Dont just talk about it, Do it!
  3. That ... plus some people prefer stacking as close as possible. +1 to all above, it also enables the base if back flying to arch on back enabling a higher performance flight and not a de arched position dropping out. Dont just talk about it, Do it!
  4. ! But they still retain that silly, pain in the ass to put on 4 zipper system... and clearly no escape sleeve. Deal breakers for me.? Is it really that hard to do up 4 zippers? Never thought this was an issue granted it takes a whole 30 seconds which is pretty tough ;) Dont just talk about it, Do it!
  5. Birdman Classic 2002 (there was no other option) Skyflyer 1 2003 Vampire 1 Jii Wings Glide System 1 2005 (first serious big wing wing from ankles to wrists) Vampire 4 2007 Venom 2010 Tony X Wing 2010 Viper 2013 Dont just talk about it, Do it!
  6. Don't get me wrong, I love innovation and advancement, but in the skydiving environment I don't currently see an issue with the existing solution. From a safety perspective I personally just don't like the idea of a bridle snaking up a wing. However if it takes off fantastic. I can understand if it helps a fumble be avoided in BASE then there is a market if the risks associated with the new design out weigh the benefit. Dont just talk about it, Do it!
  7. once you have had a fumbled pull on a WS base jump , you will appreciate this modification. I really think its a step forwards, and will save lives. Darren there may well be an application for this in BASE but in over 1200 wingsuit jumps deployment even on the largest suit ever built is not a problem. If you are proximityflying with one shot only and a low deployment then possibly however there are multiple examples of base fatalities from gear changes and under pressure humans tend to revert to muscle memory of what they are used to. Personally if I cannot find ths boc I find the base of the container and then work out even on the largest wingsuit this works. Only had to use in anger once when I could not feel my hands on a 30,000ft jump but could feel my wrists so found right area and grabbexand threw. However on normal jumps not been an issue. The additional risk of off heading opening from partial burbles I would think negated ths benefit but I would be interested yo know from experienced BASE jumpers if they saw this as necessary. All fod innovation but one instance of a poor deployment/fumble would nof change my method in 1000+ deployments that did work. Dont just talk about it, Do it!
  8. Interesting but I dont see the need and it opens up another link in the deployment procedure that could go wrong. I am all for innovation just dont see the advantage in this idea. Dont just talk about it, Do it!
  9. I don't watch videos of accidents. I know they happen and lots of people die but if I consume myself with negative images I'd never get out of my bed in the morning, let alone want to fly wingsuits. I race downhill mtb's and visit the alps frequently and track day superbikes and have had some nasty crashes in my time but I still don't even watch crash videos of those sports. My mates all watch them and then get pissed off because they can't ride fast. Your brain goes into self preservation mode. That's how I see it anyway. Like I said before it's not a suicide mission just a dream I have. :) Kirby hard fact is if you want to give yourself the best chance of survival you will learn from every resource possible, this is not about carnage videos its about awareness of why and what to avoid, any resource that helps you do that will aid you not hinder you. Anyway you have your AFF and many years ahead of your to build skills before even thinking about proxy flying and am sure you will see plenty in the meantime if you hang around any DZ in the rain. Dont just talk about it, Do it!
  10. Some additional resources just so you are aware of the reality beyond the youtube all goes well videos http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_attachment;postatt_id=139753; https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=vxhlhmlwSB4#! Dont just talk about it, Do it!
  11. If you really want detailed information speak to Tad Smith who is a highly experienced HALO jump master and has been the HALO jump master for most recent (last 10 years) high altitude jumps. He trained Andy Ford and I when we made a 30K wingsuit jump in Davis back in 2005 and was very good, and aviation O2 is very dry there is a significant difference which you really feel on pre breathe. I believe Tad actually covered Jhonny jump also. Dont just talk about it, Do it!
  12. Just saw this again on Epic Tv and wondered what had happened so the stunt required a location in or near a war zone and political agreement between required countries? So greatest stunt ever to my imagination involved taking off and landing completly un aided no card board boxes no rig (kudos though to this jump). But it got me thinking what else could this be if war zones and political bs get in the way and its going to change the lives of so many across the entire world flock with all the world leaders over borders across the world, followed by a love in and world peace as all religions agree they understand each other and hold hands whilst realising war is futile when there is wingsuiting to be done :) So what would your stunt be to change the world in 2014? Happy New Year one and all ;) Dont just talk about it, Do it!
  13. There are a number fo different set ups I would suggest talking to your DZ and determining what they use is these jumps are frequent enough to make it worthwhile you buying your own, certs, recharging etc etc vs using their kit. Also depends on there SOP's and FAA regs what you will need to use. 18K if its a fast climb and exit profile you are unlikely to experience any hypoxia. Though age, weight and smoking habits will negatively effect you, older, fatter, smokers not good combo for HALO. So I would talk to DZ first for info as anything advised here will not be personalised and take into account your actual situation. Dont just talk about it, Do it!
  14. The Viper is not the easiest suit to fly initially as appears sensitive to input; though I had the same tune in phase when I was flying the GS1 back in 2005 which was then the biggest suit out there. However the Viper is the most high performance big wing I have ever flown and whilst I have not flown Squirrel I have flown a number of very impressive TS big wings. The Viper is an extraordinary suit make no mistake, first flight I was flying low teens the whole flight with a couple of dive and climbs, I will be loading a bunch of data post flysight integration over Christmas and once we have the mythical Blue sky stuff over the UK again ;) Would have been before but I managed to jarr my knee on a basic coach flight back in September and only know just fixed in time for winter Dont just talk about it, Do it!
  15. Lurch that is why I used the term "personally" in my response not a blanket statement. If people are gettinv there flying info from dz.com then maybe they should think about talking to a credible gear aware bird/instructor. I fly avery 34mph on my venom and sub 30s on viper but still find shutting wing off enables clean deployment, of course if your pitching straight from flight or without slight pause then thats a different ball game all together. p.s I am 180lb without gear which is a Jav oddessy 2008 and spectre 120. Dont just talk about it, Do it!
  16. If the pilot is that lousy at deployment and poor body position and weak at navigation resulting in off DZ landings then gear mods will likely be irrelevant. Sounds like a healthy bit of self policing was needed to stop sub several hundred jump wonders flying super suits. I have personally found a modern container system does not require extended bridles and the basic guide on not flying HP canopies has been around for donkeys years. I still fly the same set up I did for my classic a javelin standard deployment normal bridle length and PC and a spectre 120; It deploys happily on my Viper, Xwing, GS1, Stealth, Venom, V4 etc As ever comes down to people not trying to run before they can walk.
  17. I highly recommend you read the articles on the following link http://www.flylikebrick.com/safety-training.php Tracking has its place however the ability to control you body relative to others is far more important, e.g. understanding the relationship between your movements and others in the x,y,z axis is vital in addition to spending a lot of time once qualified on 2-3 ways not trying to join every flock going and simply going for numbers. Fly your body. Hence building skills in RW and Freefly should help you greatly and also in approach techniques to bases since with a wingsuit closing speeds and your ability will determine how safe you and others around you are.
  18. I asked some pretty basic questions that you failed to answer; I asked how you found the Viper flight characteristics since I also have one and was interested in why you were selling so many suits having barely flown them. You told me it did not do what you wanted it for with no info. So to be frank you looked highly suspicious, no info on your profile and selling a bunch of high end suits which you appear to have made 1-3 jumps on before you sell them. To me that struck me as odd; but maybe that's just me. Dont just talk about it, Do it!
  19. I have one but its not for sale, had a lot of fun on it in the early days when we could still count pilots on our fingers and toes globally. Quite amazing when I lay it on the Viper and look and difference. But size aside as Jarno says its what inside the suit that really counts irrelevant of design if we want the maximum flight experience in performance, agility and control. Dont just talk about it, Do it!
  20. Great article glad you were able to use one of my shots. Cheers Fraser
  21. I have been waiting for this innovation for so long thank god its here, its so hard to push a single button prior to exit and wait for the red light and then under canopy or on the ground to actually remember to press that button again. Seriously how lazy is this becoming, when they can build a camera with a little innovation that packs for me then that would be nice but trusting it to record on its own and ending up with minutes of 4 ways climbing out is not my thing
  22. Enable canopy logging, and you can just download or replay the full jump. Regardless of fake deployments Thanks already done, just never had this problem with other suits :) Dont just talk about it, Do it!
  23. Surprised myself hardly anyone has posted on the Viper. Just got my Viper and will post further details post next few jumps only made one jumps so far. But impressions so far. Out the door this is the highest pressurised wing I have ever experienced, felt extraordinary, I usually fly a Venom and V4 also have previously an X Wing, GS1 and all the medium small stuff over the years. I have about 1100 wingsuit jumps and never flown anything like this. Forward speed was pretty high, did not have flysight but I fly an established pattern at our DZ under certain conditions and I found myself heading way further out than usual. The suit was far more responsive to any input so needed tiny inputs compared to any other wing apart from maybe my GS1 which when first flown was also a little skaty. However this can be dialled in just need to put the jumps on. My altitrack log finished after 19 secs as the log thought I had deployed as I hit 25mph descent. My Viso 2 however logged flight and showed profile split over low teens up to 25mph for the flight. Getting flysight fitted shortly so will upload info once I have it in addition to altitrack which will now log using canopy flight setting log in addition to freefall. I would say with the size of this wing pressurization and design the 400 wingsuit jumps minimum is there for a very good reason. Overall though this looks like a lot of funa and a lot of performance, whilst only 15-20% larger than the Venom this suit fly's very differently and is far more dynamic. Will post more next weekend when I should have some more data. But this is a serious performance suit and Robi and team have designed something special. Cheers Fraser Dont just talk about it, Do it!
  24. Chris, The only reason I asked was ref what you really want from a suit and no offence intended but the super high end, large wing performance suits are a whole different ballgame from the V4. I have a Classic, Skyflyer, V1, V4, Venom, Xwing, GS1 and very recently a Viper (which I shall post a review on shortly). The suits which have a direct line or near direct line wing from the wrist to the ankle are a very different beast and I would demo several times if you can before you decide on a super wing. However if you want to fly XRW then you will likely need a big wing (unless your 6ft 5 and 100lb) ;). I big wings are great for performance flying but unless you have literally spent the last 450 jumps wring everything you can out on previous suits you wont get as much out of them. I know that's a sweeping statement and anyone can get in bang out some performance, but if you want confidence in flying to the limit with others and especially with XRW you want that confidence in ability to fly nearly any axis in the suit. Have fun whatever you do only commented in the first place as I see a lot of super suits not being flown to their limits. Just picked up a Viper myself and having started on a classic in 2001 have been blown away 1200 wingsuit jumps later on this suit. Will post detail tomorrow as first flight was pretty extraordinary and another level altogether from the venom.
  25. Chris out of interest are you really 500 jumps in 5 years; looking for an Apache size and capability suit? Just wondered. Dont just talk about it, Do it!
