  1. Too fuckin funny!!! Bill is my illigitmate dad! I think he hates me, but is also proud of me! Wierd world huh? Mick.
  2. Aren't you in a war zone right now? How's that going? How's business? Stay safe (rigging) brother. Mick.
  3. Ok Dad!!!! But the kid's just wanna have fun, can't you be reasonable? Please????? Mick. Mick.
  4. Not "almost old school", they ARE old school, they've been around for 15 years or more. Sheesh where have you been? Mick.
  5. Hey spark's, Cal Trans called me, they need their overalls back tonight!!. Mick.
  6. Now a cutaway at 200 feet is really going to ruin your day but how often to AADs misfire? Not necessarly, an RSL equiped rig with a properly packed reserve should be "functionaly open" well within 200'. @ 100' all bets are off. That being said it's still an unworkable idea, it presents more problems than it solves. Remember the KISS princible (keep it simple, stupid!), there's a lot to be said for that maxim!!!. Mick.
  7. I think that would depend on how it was written up and how good one is at “creative writing”.
  8. And this is probably the biggest part of TSO. Testing is only done once, tractability paperwork follows every part of every rig during manufacturing. That's the FAA's main thrust during ACEP audits (every 2 years), that and toll and guage control. Gold star for that observation!!. Mick.
  9. That type of damage (RSL) can't happen on the Reflex due to the location of the RSL and it's velcro. That's one (of many) reasons I designed it like that. BTW the Reflex setup could be incorperated into almost any modern sport rig, unfortunatly it would have to be none at build time and would probably be considered a major change. Mick.
  10. The damage (wear) looks consistant with the middle ring contact on the base ring (if I read your diagram correctly), but I'm baffeled as to why it would occur on an offset from center and only on one ring. First question I would ask is: Are both rings from the same batch? Or were there overlapping batches used on that rig? Only the tracability paperwork would be able to sort that question out. Second question would be: Was the rig used for any other type of activity other than regular jumping, such as para sailing while being towed? Perhaps it is the result of the way the canopy is handled when being carried back from landing or packing. Either way the metal should be hardness tested to see if it was incorrectly finished. Another place to look would be the main risers that have been with the canopy the longest, was one of the middle rings stainless steel instead of cadmium plated? Was it over tollerance (thickness) in relation to the other middle ring? Was the loop shorter on that side causing a greater pressure on the base ring? All this aside the base rings should be hardness tested against each other and the standard. Curiouser and curiouser (Alice in wonderland). Mick.
  11. I doubt it. I found it in an album from 20 years ago! BSBD. Harry Harry didn't TC sell them through DAR (Don Allen Rumble, RIP) industries? Or was it a "trunk" sale, I'm a little "fuzzy" on that one. I wonder why? Ahh good times. Mick.
  12. An industry standard has been and still is WD40, I believe it is the same product labled CRC in some countries. Mick.
  13. Ahhhh grasshopper, now that you have taken the pebble from my (sparkeys) hand the real learning can begin!!. BTW it is always a good idea to question CW, just be cautious of how you approach it. I like the fact that you are THINKING, ultimatly it leads to awareness. Look into becoming a rigger , just being around the field will amaze and astound you and will ultimatly fill in all the gaps that you currently suffer from. It's fun too!! Who knows you may become the next Dominia Jalbert!! Who you ask? look him up in poynters and other publications. He is considered by some to be the father of the ram air parachute. Ya never know until you try. Mick. PS: hook a brother up and fill out your profile
  14. Which reserve sliders use #8 grommets? At the very least some older Ravens. Mick.
  15. Right, reserves have the wide risers, which won't allow the slider to come down to the toggles. Derek Except if your reserve has # 8 grommets on it's slider, then it can intefere with the toggles. Mick.
  16. Like I said, I'm here to learn I'm all ears. Doesn't sound like it. BTW why do I go against what everyone has to say? Maybe because at one time everyone thought the world is flat and someone was not afraid to question it. Or maybe several hundred years of collective experience in a sport/ industry that you have almost zero in, provides "them" with a greater insight. Oh what am I saying??? of course YOU are right because you are of above normal intelligence, like MOST of the people you are argueing with. (sigh) Here we go again kids. Mick. BTW: Fill out your profile, it adds (some) credibility to your statements, no one likes to talk with people who don't have the guts to identify themselves.
  17. That's an offer you shouldn't pass up! NCNS so far, guess he wasn't too interested after all. Mick.
  18. QuoteThis rig shows up several times each month on Ebay. It always has a 24 hour auction and is usually removed within a few hours of being listed. In fact I just looked at it a few minutes ago and it is gone now. The person selling it always has a different Ebay user name and the location of the rig is always a different place. In the last month this rig has been sold from Texas, California, and New York. The rig is like new with a cypress and new canopies, and the opening bid is incredibly low with no reserve price. Too good to be true. The seller always has the same line, don't bid just email me for a fast safe deal. Then it is for sale the next day under a different name. I wonder how many times this rig has been sold? His email address changes everytime it is listed. Ebay must be onto the guy because the listing is always removed within a few hours. Either that or some sucker contacts him and he removes the listing himself. This rig has been listed dozens of times in the last few months under many different names and email addresses. If you see this rig don't bid, it is a scam. I have attached the photos, it is the same photos he uses everytime...... This really pisses me off because many of us do legitimate, honest sales on Ebay. Edit: I just found it again under a different listing: http://cgi.ebay.com/Brand-New-Complete-skydiving-rig-mirage_W0QQitemZ150018750768QQihZ005QQcategoryZ15719QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem I expect it will dissapear again soon. Jesus!!!! It's butt ugly, who in their right mind (Mojo sparky, cuz it's orange, sort of) would want it? Mick.
  19. Don't lie to Mick, you have no friends. Ummmm, while it may be true that I have no friends, that's not my post. Time to get that old timers disease checked out. Maybe you hung it up just in time, I'll see you in the rec room at the home next week!!, I'll be the one with the type three bound-cordura checkers board using slider stops as checkers!!! Mick.
  20. Don't expect to get rich doing it!! But it is mentally stimulating ,I liked it so much I designed my own rig and built a company to produce it. Of course I had previous experience building gear bags, weight belts etc and worked for a manufacturer for a year to learn how NOT to do it. Hell it was a great adventure and just recently I got to build some of my "old" products for a sub-contrator of the people who purchased my old company's designs and assets. Not having sat at a sewing machine for five years made me think it was going to be difficult, but it was "like riding a bike" it all came back in an instant and boy did it feel good!!!! The quote from the (sub contractor) manufacturer to me was "you'd never know it (the five year gap), there is no wasted motion in in your hands movements" If you have an anylitical mind and are good with your hands it can be a very rewarding experience. Sometimes I miss it terribly (but not the politics). If you feel this your vocation then do it!! If you don't you will always be left wondering what if? Mick. PM me if you like, I'd be glad to share my experiences with you.
  21. Saw the same thing many years (about 15 or so) ago with a T4 (1") bridle, the pin pearced the bridle and caused a lock. statiscly that's what? Pretty rare either way. Mick.
  22. Yeah... you told me that shit 7 years ago. Took me awhile too. I had 1145 jumps before my Dragonfly went in to an unrecoverable spin and forced me to land my Kxx (20' round reserve) by a wood pile @ Perris. Mick.
  23. There are two kinds of skydivers: Those that have had a reserve ride and those that are going to. Wait your turn it will come, the more experience you acquire in the mean time will better equip you to handle your first reserve ride when it actually happens. Mick.
  24. Is that better, you big cry baby. What Catapult thing? Much much better! I don't like being qouted in the "press". It hurts my" carefully cultiveted image".! OK, Im full of crap on this one. Have at it!!! Mick.
