  1. I didn't know Sean well; I am a semi-regular at SDSD so I did see him on a regular basis and speak with him occasionally, as well as seeing him on almost every load I was on.. With that said, he was an incredibly funny and nice guy who represented the sport well. Blue skies, Sean.
  2. Congratulations! I have my gear in the car now, waiting.
  3. FAR 91.107 covers this (seatbelts, if equipped, must be worn during movement on the surface, takeoff, and landing). If ramp checked, the pilot is the one who would face the sanctions from the FAA with respect to his/her certificates. and even for things like out of date repacks. Regardless of the safety aspect of seatbelts, you owe it to the pilot to let them know. You did the right thing.
  4. This is a serious question, sorry for the threadjack. When I hire people, I always google them to see what comes up. It is amazing what people will put online, thinking it will never come back to them. Reading some posts on here, no-one's in particular, if I were googling I would be concerned that: 1. This person spends an inordinate amount of time on the web and 2. Their expressed thoughts and opinions could be an HR concern if the same were expressed in a work environment Does this concern you at all?
  5. That is incredible. Interested in making another?
  6. It was over on North Woodland (by Stetson, where I went). That place would serve anyone.
  7. Remember the bar Halftimes?
  8. Three Letter Acronyms Working for a Pharma company exposes you to almost as many as the military.
  9. I admit it, I clicked on this because I thought it would provide a good laugh on a busy day. I should have looked at the poster name. Turns out, it is just another cry for attention. Image is marginally NSFW.
  10. Done. Good on you for doing this.
  11. Just because I am the curious type and had to go look... here is (what I think) you are referring to... "As long as your Vigil is not measuring the switch on pressure or its “ground zero” reference (at ±150ft or ± 46m) it will stay airborne and will not switch off even after 14 hours. This as long as the “ground zero” reference pressure (at ±150ft or ± 46m) is not measured. Therefore, you need to switch off your Vigil before any move to another location and switch on your Vigil at the new dropzone to implement the new “ground zero” reference."
  12. Just curious, do you actually skydive? edited for clarity.
  13. No experience with those two, but I have this one and love it. The battery backup alone is worth it, but it is also super quiet. http://www.liftmaster.com/consumerweb/pages/productmodeldetail.aspx?modelId=2387
  14. Sorry to hear about your Greyhound, they are one of my favorite breeds. We have whippets now but have rescued greys in the past. Congratulations on your new puppy.
  15. We used to look around the GA parking area when we were stopped at an FBO. Find the hidden gems, the planes that look like they have been sitting for a while (flat tires and such). Contact the owners by looking up the registration number and offering them a reasonable, low amount. Some are just too lazy to try and sell it and will take an offer that comes along. You will make a lot of offers this way but eventually someone will bite. We have purchased several this way, and have yet to get burned. You will most likely have to dump money into it to get it to a state you would enjoy flying it, so keep that in mind during the offer. $10k for a basic paint / interior for a small plane, etc. Without fail, they will be out of annual, so having an A&P friend or contact in the area where the plane is will help. Also, become familiar with applying for a ferry permit from the local FSDO to fly it to your home base.
  16. It might depend on patience and luck. I am 6'6" and gave up on the idea of used after looking for a long while, opting instead to wait a little longer than most before buying my first rig so I could get a custom one.
  17. You are a hooker! (not a personal attack, really)
  18. I recently was plagued by a long series of hard openings, the kind where people watching the video wince. Someone watched me pack and noticed that when I rolled the tail i was rolling it while pulling the canopy towards the folds, effectively allowing the canopy to spread open inside. The corrective action was to roll the tail toward the canopy and my openings have been fantastic since.
  19. OK. My friend bought two tandems from them last week. They cancelled both Monday and Tuesday this week citing "weather" as a reason. As a pilot and a skydiver, and someone who works 5 miles south of the airport, I call complete bullshit. You could not find anything in the sky today but blue.
  20. I would just steer them towards San Diego, Elsinore, or Perris. In speaking with the person at SD Cali, it didnt sounds like they did beach jumps. I think half the fun is hanging out watching other skydivers land while waiting for your tandem. I think it would make the drive worth it, and you essentially get the same or better scenery. I don't have first hand knowledge of this place though, I will check back to see what others have. T
  21. I called them and finally got through. The person I spoke with sounded legit and seemed offended when I asked if he was affiliated with Skyride. I think this is more of a hobbyist who turns tandems... Thanks.
