  1. It is very sad that someone can read an accident report which shows VERY CLEARLY that the equipment was not used nor maintained properly and then blame the manufacturer. God help us. Human evolution has indeed been halted.
  2. Rounds do have a sharp crack upon opening that everyone on the ground does hear. I dont remember hearing it during the jump, however. Of course, we were wearing motorcyle helmets !!!
  3. Backing into the DZ !!! ha ha, boy do I remember that,, many, many times !!! All the young jumpers now can't relate to that one !
  4. On hop and pops from twin beeches or cessnas I always did an RW diving to the rear exit. I was never unstable and could pull after a second or two with no problem. It's just like a Superman dive !
  5. 2,000' with a paracommander. I probably would have done 1800 feet had I really really needed a jump fix badly, ha ha !!! With my Strato Star, 2,000 would have been the lower limit for sure, but that would have been doable, they were pretty reliable. If I had ever been forced to bail from the jump plane, if it was in controlled flight and not lower than 1500, I would have deployed my main. ( No AAD )
  6. Minnesota Mutual covers private pilots and I think jumpers also............ you need a current class 3 medical or else the benefit amount only pays 50% of the policy. check it out to be sure.
  7. well, in windy Oklahoma, and later, Texas, we would jump in 15 mph winds without hesitating, and I know of one day we jumped once in gusting to 25. Everyone could hook turn the hell out of those PC's and make a nice stand up landing in those conditions (sometimes we released one capewell right at touchdown, too ). I dont recall any reserve rides happening on those days but it scares me now, that would have been very very bad !!! Trust me. I guess I should add that Larry Church, who was not used to the winds, didnt want to land across I-35 in San Marcos so he ended up backing into the power lines, cutaway and fell horrendously to the pavement. He died from those injuries.
  8. the OP is a rat fink and I will say that to his face. An accident clearly due to gross negligence, yes GROSS NEGLIGENCE, occurs... therefore the gear is to blame !!!???? I dont think so. The OP cannot think logically.
  9. June Cleaver: 'Ward, I think you were just a little too hard on the Beav last night,, dont you ???'
  10. maybe not........ but even if he confessed to that, ( on national TV, no less ) NO ONE is going to step forward and enforce the constitution. Of that I am quite certain. They would be called all kinds of mean, rotten names.. hence they would not do it.
  11. I am sorry but anyone who wanted to smoke in the jump plane,, not only rude but the danger to all the nylon gear........ that's pretty bad !!!!!
  12. Be even more careful, gang,, my understanding is that if you deposit it, now they have your bank routing number and account number, very very bad, trust me.
  13. The retail price of Strato Stars, when they came out, was $499
  14. I bought it from amazon dirt cheap. From 1969, and believe it or not, the filming would be hard to beat even today. Young jumpers can get a great idea of jumping in that era. The rest of us, well, it is great nostalgia. I noticed that the real jumpers in the movie ( and they are TERRIFIC jumpers, too ) are using ripcord stops. For you youngsters, that was a lead sinker on your ripcord cable that prevented the ripcord from coming out of the housing and getting lost, or dropped. More importantly, it provided a really great opportunity to have your reserve horseshoe on your steel ripcord handle, a problem from which numerous folks did NOT get out of !!!!! Enjoy the movie !!!
  15. I can't believe this question. Go to youtube and watch AFF videos, man. Please.
  16. I must say that I can think of 2 who could not get their reserve pillow pulled. That bothers me, a lot.
  17. watch number 3 first !!! ENJOY,, A LOT !! http://freak-brother.com/downloads.html
  18. I just read a book by a Los Angeles cop,, he says, thanks to Rodney King, LA PD avoids certain racial areas as much as possible. Must be great for the honest folk who live there, you know ? Cops scared to come in there,, because of law - yers !!!
  19. go to a local dz,,,,,,,,,, spend a half day or more if you like. They love to talk to new folks. In this AZ summer heat, go quite early in the morning. For now, watch youtube videos of AFF jumps. Later, watch the malfuntion videos, also.
  20. BAN THEM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the gangs,, not kidding.
  21. the Apollo program was a huge positive influence on many people of that era. People aspired to become pilots, engineers, and scientists. We believed that the United States could do anything of a scientific and technological nature, and it was true. That was the most difficult project ever done, and the United States was the country that did it.
  22. Anyone willing to share a brain lock or too scared to do anything story ? Cutaway and freeze ? Freefall with no pull then AAD fire ?
  23. Tandem? AFF ? S/L ? IAD ? you will have a great time, that is for sure !!
  24. I am convinced that spinning disorientation causes many no reserve pulls ( I nearly had such an accident in a scuba diving situation, I was sick, and got very very dizzy. Believe me, you can hardly function at all ). This should be easy to demonstrate in hanging harness, spin em up !!! Hope to hear some results.
