  1. As ong as its good porn like Pirates or Fashionistas, no problem buying something like that.
  2. The guy that moved into the office next to me just moved from the UK 2 months ago. He bought a Nissan XTerra and just ordered a 38" LCD flat screen TV for his apartment. He mentioned gaining weight also. 2 months in the states and already Americanized.
  3. When I asked my vet about the chips he told me not to bother - he said there is no standardization and the readers can only read the info for that brand. So, unless the shelter that finds them has the correct equipment it doesn't help. He recommended a tattoo on the inside of an ear - low tech, cheap and more full proof.
  4. I went to Sandals Negril last year in June. Weather was good. There was a hurricane over by Mexico at the time but didn't bother us much.
  5. I put in a Radio Fence for my dogs 6 years ago. Its not just a plug it in and the dogs will stay put sort of contraption. It takes significant time and effort training the dog (and owner). When my older dog was a puppy he was determined to do as he pleased. Boogie's a 100lbs black lab, when growing up was really battling for the alpha male slot. He'd stand right on the fence line getting shocked as if to say f^&k-off. So, I got a bigger collar, then put both collars on him. The 2 collars learn'd him gud - well, and him growing up a bit. When I got the second dog I walked him around the perimeter, let him get zapped a couple times and he was having none of that - took about 2 days to train him, he'd a lot less head-strong. They are both well trained on it - but I have to remember to put collars the collars on them. They are smart enough to know that if the collar isn't there they can go play with the neighbors dogs.
  6. 6 frames in raw was a step backwards since the 10D was 9 - and its well behind Nikon. The 5 fps is available all the time now - the 20D was restricted based on the focus mode and lens type.
  7. Sould've just called it a 20Dn or mk II. Not much of an upgrade for an 18 month lifecycle. Canon fell behind the Nikon D200 with this one. Now, the Olympus E-330 is a cool idea. Useless for jumping but innovative and forward thinking at least, not just repackaging the same old thing.
  8. The line specs are the same from Viper to Alpha to space to Cobalt. Here they are: http://www.atairaerodynamics.com/images/linespecs.jpg I've had 3 for around 1200 jumps. They were all more squirly when new but they only spin if I do something stupid.
  9. I thought the point of the EF-S lens mount was to make lenses small and cheap. The 10-22 is slow, about the size of a 17-xx FF lens, only fits 3 bodies, optically not considered that great and almost $700. Must be good margins in it for Canon.
  10. Robots do a fine job installing windshields - they cost a bit more than 90K upfront but work their asses off. Around 30K industrial robots are made per year. Replacing that UAW installer isn't difficult.
  11. One reserve was needed to save my ass and the other is well out of date. Nothing to jump, going hiking.
  12. I put in programmable thermostats for my heatpump/AC units after the first month of winter when I bought my house. They payed for themselves in the 2 months before winter ended. 6 years later and they are just savings now. I have dual zone heat/AC plus 2 ventless fireplaces. The combination makes it easy to heat/cool the areas I'm in while I'm home. I don't even have the electric emergency heat wired in - I use the gas fireplaces if its too cold for the heatpump.
  13. Same here. Kimber 1911 or Hi-Power - cocked and locked. Biggest issue is they're not really that concealed.
  14. Don't let Bill stall the canopy.
  15. "I read a more recent report that states that the death rate is now 1/100,000 -- those still aren't very good stats. " The murder rate in Washington, DC was 46/100,000 in 2002. 1/100,000 does sound all that bad.
  16. I have a 1/2 dozen different resumes. The ones that I use when not actively looking for a job have hobbies. My feeling is that I'm not looking so anyone that comes to me should know the score before wasting both our time. The resumes I use to go out and find a job with do not. At that point I figure I need to impress them not the other way around. I haven't looked for a job in 11 years though. Last job change GE approached me - hobbies were on that resume.
  17. "Torque is a better rating" was the wording if you want to be that picky. A better rating when no RPM is stated. When quoting everyone needs to quote the entire thought not just the parts they like. Anyway its all down to opinion so there is no point in continuing.
  18. I completily agree with you - in theory. My complaint is in practice - how horsepower is commonly presented. I just finished a magazine article request. The initial request was for the advantages of AC motors over 25 HP. The first thing I had to do was call the editor and ask what the hell he wanted. Did he want me to write about 40,000RPM 2-pole spindle motors for skim cutting AL wingspars, a 56-pole 250RPM torque motor for direct drive or something inbetween. Induction or synchronous, base speed or top speed, peak or continuous, etc. To him 25HP should have been enough to tell the tale - its not.
  19. "You have an engine generating 100 ft-lbs of torque. How fast will you accelerate? " You have an engine generating 100 horsepower. How fast will you accelerate? "Am I more powerful than an engine that can generate 100 ft-lbs of torque?" Without the RPM I cannot know if you are more powerful. But, you are producing more stall torque. tell me the maximum RPM of both "motors" and I can take an accurate guess. Since my original statement was "HP is a useless rating system without knowing the RPM" - you just proved my point with your 2 questions. Knowing the power at an RPM or knowing the torque at an RPM will give you the other. Knowing the torque without RPM is far more usefull than knowing the power with no mention of RPM. If you know the RPM it doesn't matter unless the RPM is at a data point that isn't new (like redline). Example: Car 1 - 157KW Car 2 - 165KW Everything being equal what would be a better choice for an automatic transmission? You would have to pick more HP. Car 1 - 157KW @5200 RPM redline 5500 Car 2 - 165KW @6300 RPM redline 6500 You'd still have to pick car 2, it just spins faster. Or...with torque. Car 1 - 330 NM Car 2 - 270 NM Now you'd pick car 1. Car 1 - 330 NM @ 3000 RPM redline 5500 Car 2 - 260 NM @ 5000 RPM redline 6500 You would still pick car 1. It produces its torque at a lower RPM that is more suited to using a transmission that picks the shift points for you lower than redline. I can also guess HP by knowing the redline since a naturally aspired internal combustion engine will be have a semi-flat torque curve with some droop towards the redline. The exapmle is real - the first is my Explorer with a 4 liter and automatic. The second is my Mazda6 with 3 liters and standard. The 6 with an automatic (not using the semi-auto feature) sucks for performance once there is any load on it, but with the standard it can scream. The Explorer could care less about the load and accelerates just fine at the shiftpoints seleceted by the automatic.
  20. We can go al the way to F=MA if you want. The original posts were about HP without mention of any sort of RPM. This car is better than that car because it has more horsepower...blah, blah. Torque is the application of force, motion is not required (T=FR). Horsepower is work per unit time. (W=T/S) Movement is required for work. So, torque has pleanty of meaning without knowing the transmission ratios or the wheel size.
  21. Of course it is - its a direct relationship. KW = (NM * RPM)/9550 But torque tells you a data point that is not the redline (or very close to it).
  22. No, HP tells you power at one particular speed. In an internal combustion engine its normally the redline RPM. I don't drive at redline. Torque is a better rating or at least the RPM where 80% of the torque is made. Internal combustion engines are not constant HP by any means. Electric motors are more suited for that job.
  23. Its good when you consider its already getting 150 dyno HP at 2800RPM. The Evo is getting a paltry 60. HP is a useless rating system without knowing the RPM - HP per liter is ever worse. The turbo takes a lot of time to spool, and the tiny displacement doesn't produced much inherent torque - its power curve is not very realistic for normal driving conditions, that is unless you want to drop the clutch from 4K at every stoplight.
  24. I had the same problem with my 300D. After some internet searches and experimentation I decided the 300D just doesn't like to stop down meter. I started using "M" then finally got rid of both the 300D and Zenitar.
  25. Backpacker is normally good. I have 18 bag nights and 116 miles this year.
