  1. Understood. My first SLR camera was a Mamiya Sekor (still have it). Second Pentax (a gift) (sold it, and all its accessories and lenses on Ebay). Third a Canon. I started collecting additional lenses for the Canon and now I choose to stay there for the same reason....other than the fact that they're awesome cameras ta boot.
  2. Well I don't know.. i haven't seen this in person, but if this is the unit: [inline nikmll3.jpg] How are you going to attach this where it needs to go? It seems like harbortronics should come up with some custom made unit.. I can't make up my mind on what to get now (thanks ray!) I was just about to buy a 300d.. want a good all around camera, not just for skydiving. Want to also shoot "events" such as protests and stuff which may require "quick shooting." Sounds like maybe the d70 might be the way to go, but I really don't like taping a freaking IR thingi to he front of the camera in order to shoot skydiving... if only nikon would consult skydivers before desiging their products. :) Kevin
  3. I think you'll have issues when jumping in that configuration.. if you're facing the sun, etc.. might interfere with the IR. I think Nikon is dumb to not have that feature already on that camera.. anyone who shoots a SLR should have a remote shutter release
  4. What is RAW+Small? Does it make hte image size smaller (like dimensions) or does it figure out some way to compress raw?
  5. I musta missed the NTR-1, what's that look like?? :)
  6. what was the deal with the blinking red eye light?
  7. Has anyone hacked their 300d firmware? There is a russian hack out there that will enable a bunch of features that don't come out of the box, making it more like a 10d...
  8. Uh know I think the thousands of miles away will keep you more than your experience :)
  9. Looking for the "dropzone.com" for photographers.. photo.net is a good example of what i'm looking for.. anyone else know any good websites?
  10. Uh definately not. Have legally jumped my base canopy numerous times out of a otter in a skydiving rig. kevin
  11. I think it was drougless at that time.. he was telling us about the 2 stage deployment... anyway, we have birdman instructing scheduled for memorial day boogie if you want to learn. shoot me an email, [email protected] Kevin
  12. Last night I went to see Col Joe Kittinger at the air and space museum here in DC. Listening to this guy speak was unbelievable! Hearing him talk about the 70 & 100K feet jumps he did and seeing the video was breathtaking. I asked him if he had done any "fun" jumps after his 100K plunge... he said yes, and he wanted to stop at 100 jumps, but he had an ejection from an aircraft that "screwed that up". So he has 101... I talked with him afterwards, he said "There's a place in Florida where they skydive called Skydive Deland.. " evidentally he's a friend of Bob Hallet's (sp?). Got him to sign my log book. Picture
  13. yes, i love it. Read up on it on flybirdman.com. There are times where you don't want to use it: backflying exits which put it in direct exposure to the prop blast/relative wind Otherwise i use it for 99% of my jumps and the others i've talked to are the same way. I do barrel rolls a good bit with no issue with PC extraction, etc. You do have to be very careful how you do the shrivel flap or you can end up with a PC in tow theoretically. It HAS to be permanantly attached to your bridle. http://www.flybirdman.com/learn/Birdman/basepc.html If you decide to use it, you need to use it properly. Install the shrivel flap, add some velcro to your rig so you can properly secure the bridle. Be safe. kevin
  14. Uh.. i think that is an indication it needs to be replaced anyway.. I know my rigger won't even pack reserves that get to be a certain age.. i think 15 years? Kevin
  15. Is that a joke, or are you for real?
  16. I want one of these! -- black bodied 300d
  17. Loic is most definately not using a matter suit :-) It's a fly your body, s-fly. Kevin
  18. I believe the DZO of the dz in lodi has the most, though I don't know if he is a user here.. 30K i believe? actual jumps - not a bunch of hop-n-pops..
  19. I love how they post that on their corporate intranet and it gets out... In case you were wondering who has seniority in the company look here or perhaps the company directory here... oh chris i'm sure you're curious about their salaries I can only imagine what their passenger databases are like.
  20. This isn't that uncommon, here is a picture I shot on my way to altitude @ crosskeys.. same idea, different angle.
