  1. TJN=Tiny Javelin Narrow RS Ridiculously Small J1KS K= designates the new shape S= Short container J1KL L= long container
  2. I could do it on my 135 and 150 both brand new canopies at the time and I put about 900 jumps between the two. At the time I was about 170#'s plus gear. Since no two canopies are exactly alike due to fabrics, human assembly and other items, maybe thats it too. Why do some Sabre's slam some people and some don't?? Your wingsuit is a good point, so all i can say different burble, speed don't know? What I do know is that I could do it when I wanted or not.
  3. Yup, When it first started it was a little nerve racking, but then when I figured it out I did it for fun. You are not going to believe this, I say that because of your jump numbers but....... Opening still moving forward thats what caused mine. Still in a track...It doesn't take much. Now I can do it when I choose. The Spectre seems to be a little more sensitive to that than others.
  4. Hell yes I would still jump!! Don't want to die any other way. If I could choose how I would die during that jump it would be just like my fathers. Heart attack during deployment...never land. No I don't have a death wish, just don't want to die in a car or doing normal things, like life itself... In a way I kinda feel like every jump could be death...keeps the respect..keeps me on my toes... Don't we say that once you take it for granted it bites you....so isn't that the same thing. I dunno just my weird mind I guess. Hey shut up over there!! Oh never mind that was me.....
  5. If I am not mistaken the Pie is for 1000 not 100,200 etc. The tradition seems to have changed... I have noticed that in the past few years.. I got lucky missed the pieing for my 1000 now its way tooo late for anyone thinking about it What ever you do get out of gear and jumpsuit immediately after landing, that crap is a bear to get out... Good luck
  6. So not true. The K just means that it is a different shape. Javelins are canopy specific containers, even more so today than back then. Stick to Mfr. Guidelines go to www.sunpath.com and check it out, and have that rigger go to it too. There is also a closing loop mod that your need to make sure was performed on that rig as well. Very important. Blue skies
  7. I thought the post that BillyVance did for a moment of silence was a wonderful touch. I thought I would dedicate this as well to those that are flying with us in our hearts, I hope no one minds. According to my sister Jerry came to her in the middle of the of the night within a week after his passing from a massive heart attack after/during opening his canopy and told her this. Brings a tear every time I read it so here goes. Waste not a moment searching for my grave, To the boundaries of earth, I will be no slave. Instead, look up on any given day, Along side the clouds is where I will play. As the sun goes down and day turns to night, Across the stars of the Milky Way, I will take flight. My love of this sport is so strong and so pure, And each of us knows for that there’s no cure. I know you are sad and it does not seem fair, But you know in your hearts, I will always be there. The time has now come to dry all those tears, For me I would rather, you go grab your gear. Get on the next load, I’m waiting for you, Come fly with me in these vast skies of blue. Tasia Tomany (Schrimsher) Oct. 2000 Who know's maybe this will help those who question their reasons for being in the sport after loosing someone to the sport. Blue Skies to all of you in this awesome family of skydiving grounded or not. J
  8. Give ya 50 bucks for it. Oh no no no no You can't have it!! its in the closet with one of Snyders Para Planes SN 0001 (jumped it too) with many other goodies. Aren't you the same one that offered $50 for the dead cypres??? What is w/ you and $50 bucks??/
  9. Help me out. If I remember right the only reason they changed from AOD to AAD was for liability reasons? Is that correct?
  10. You might want to double check that. Last I heard the R. Harris boogie was canceled. So now you can go play???
  11. Yup, spotting becomes a little more important when jumping one of those. I've got one jump on one of those on July 4th 2003, it was red, white, and blue, got out over Universal Studios and put in Ted Strong's lake behind his house. I couldn't remember how to pack it, last one I packed was in the 70's so I flat packed like a square and it worked fine. Ted asked me why I did that and I said "hey it was your generation that made them why not?" He said "yes we did and we are the ones that put them in the closet too". I said "good point". Got my one jump and now its in the closet. Fun Jump
  12. Your 1994 J1 is the same size as the J1KS so the same "rules" apply. Also double check with your rigger that the closing loop mod has been performed on that rig. That is a very improtant mod for that container. Have a great day.
  13. The unit is worth $60.00 and an unused cutter is worth $40.00 for trade in. Your dealer is encouraged to pass this on to you when you buy a new one. Airtec started this program back in 2002 I believe.
  14. That is not so true anymore. I use to believe the same thing two years ago when I was selling gear but since my time with the manufacturers and the new sizes this is not the case anymore. Javelin and RWS have become more canopy specific. There are more canopy specific sized containers in their lines than what there used to be, thus they no longer recommend that. The J1KS is built for a 143R and up to 150 main while the J1KL is for a 143R and a 170 main. Javelin has almost always been canopy specific, more so than the other manufacturers. What has happened is that the other manufacturers always seem to have more tolerance so Javelin got put into that category and yet it wasn't true. Then people complain about riser covers, pin protectors, and cosmetics by saying that they don't work. People would say oh Javelin isn't "Freefly Friendly" yet most of the champions were using them??? Just FYI to all concerned, things have changed and that rule of thumb is not so true anymore, please check out current sizing charts, you will see quite a few more sizes than before. In regards to Dyouz, not sure what year your rig is , not that it really matters but keep on eye on your covers, if you start to have a problem, your main will probably be part if not all of your problem. Sounds like your rigger has done a good job just keep on eye on them. Hope this helps. Blue skies to all.
  15. PD, Sun Path, and alot of Dz's have Demo gear. I know that PD and Sun Path have you sign a one page waiver, but does that really hold? If we are on the road traveling state to state handing out equipment how does that affect the waivers? I am sure that someone has been hurt under a demo item before. I am sure that PD for example had their waiver drawn up by an attorney. I would imagine that the gear store demo's or rental fall under the DZ's waiver. Good question. Glad you brought it up. I don't think there is any problem jumping a "dead mans" gear done it plenty of times. I don't think I would if it was a suicide though, otherwise I say keep em flying.
  16. I agree that brakes will speed up re-inflation, but disagree that you should go to 1/4-1/2 brakes before it collaps. I think full flight in turbulence will help prevent it from collapsing, but if it does, then quickly go to 1/4-1/2 brakes. Flying in brakes increases the possibility of the canopy collapsing. Derek Derek I believe you are correct. I had a discussion with John Leblanc a while back and he said to fly through in full flight. Use the brakes to repressurize the canopy after the fact. I know from my brothers experience when encountered a dust devil in Eloy, thats what he did and it saved his life. Double compound to the tib/fib but the other dust devil encounters that year resulted in death (that were reported).
  17. A 120 way base. Reminds me of the 300 way in Eloy. My mother calls me and says J they got and we still have a few days left. She said they were going for a 324 way with a 300 Base. I thought that was great! Oh well funny at the time.
  18. 1300 jumps zero real cutaways. 2 intentional. There were two that I probably should have but obviously they worked out.
  19. Wow! Haven't heard that one in a while. Back in the 60's early 70's I beieve the number was 132. But hell the first 8 way wasn't until what 1966 or so? And of course who's gonna trust 751 people not to let go??? Oh Oh oh I know....Give am all wingsuits...yeah thats it.
  20. Call the DZ they usually have trailers for rent.
  21. I ask you to please respect copy write laws and also remember that it was written by a family member about a deceased family member. If you would like to use it please Just Ask. I must set the scene before you read this. My father passed away on his 3rd jump of the day back in October of 2000. Doing what he did for 41 years, jumping with the newbie, he believed that jumping with the recent "A" license holder kept people jumping thus enabling our sport to grow. This is why we (my brother and I) started the JSF a skydiving scholarship award to assist new jumpers) it is funded by the SkyFest boogie now in its fifth year, 33 total winners at 5 different DZ's. www.skyfestboogie.com Jerry never cared what you looked like, never judged you, if you showed up with a license and a rig he wanted to jump with you. Anyway the other seven in his group (yes an SCR attempt) said he waved off at break off, gave a big smile turned and tracked. He had a massive heat attack during deployment, he was limp in the harness all the way down, so we believe as my brother put it best " He died of natural causes, in his natural environment". If anyone knew him they knew that Safety was his number one concern, to the point that some might say he was anal about it. So you can imagine when swooping came along he had a lot to say. My brother in law (long time skydiver and professional photographer) wrote this shortly after he died. I read it once a year at the Awards Ceremony at SkyFest but I thought I would share this. I have another one written by my sister, but it brings a tear every time I read it. Maybe I'll post it too. Its pretty good. My Father-In-Law, The Conservative Skydiver By Robert Tomany 11-2000 Don’t go through that cloud, Quit cussing so loud. Your rig’s out of date, Your membership is late. Your canopy’s too small, It won’t hold you at all. No helmet have you?? Your brains, they may spew. Did you get a check before boarding the plane? Is your cypres turned on?, Who packed your main? Here comes the ground as you spiral down, That landing sucked, you looked like a clown. You seem to think simply landing is dull, You feel the need to fracture your skull. Blade running looks cool, unless you crater, First your body comes in, then your brain shows up later. Stop drinking whiskey, put down that beer, Stop showing your tits and exposing your rear. What’s that on your face?, and a ring through your nose? What else is pierced?, I’m sure God only knows. Your hair is too long and you need a shave, Who dresses you? They must really be brave. I know you think that I’m really square, Isn’t it clear that I really don’t care? In 41 years, many things they have changed, I think I am normal, you must be deranged. I admit we don’t always see eye-to-eye, But we jump from the planes and meet in the sky. Differences we have many, but common our love, Of this sport that has taken us to the blue skies above.
