  1. Need help. I believe the 20 year anniversary of the TeXXas 20 way is this year. Can anyone help with more details? This is my first place to start the research, tried to get a hold of Jack, but no luck yet. Thanks J
  2. Thats what happens sometimes when you work for the manufactures, move to Fl and quit jumping! Dont worry buddy I'll catch up. Got my new Odyssey! Gonna play in the sky!
  3. and I'm another step closer to 50. That will be in a few days, I was 29 for 7 years!!lol J, I knew it was you in that pic because it just flat out looked like you. Don't ask me how, I just knew. Wow that guy has hair!
  4. So do we need to put a DZ.com record on the event list?
  5. Now who is getting older! Happy B day my friend! How in the hell did you figure that was me in that pic? That was somewhere around 1977, that was my first Nikon around my neck. So you think I am old huh? Well whats your age today? On second thought maybe I shouldn't ask, I might really be old. Have a great day!
  6. I'll be running SkyFest again this year on July 14-17th at Spaceland, you should check it out. How ya been? Man those were some memories Rus brought back. I'm in Zhill's at Sun Path now. Things are going great. I'll try to catch ya when I get to town, I will probably get their a few days early to set up. Hope all is well J
  7. Para pak, u getting the skyhook? Great device
  8. How do you turn 2 million bucks into nothing.? Open a DZ. Boogies are a high risk especially if additional aircraft come in. Thats tough too because you rarely make money on outside A/C, unless you have a huge turnout. Make the boogie unique, do something that noone else does, cause after a couple of years it will be copied. Trust me i know. They are alot of fun and a ton of work. I would suggest start small and stay that way until manifest is back up for at least 45 min. then you might be ready for additional A/C. Not trying to talk you out of it, just go slow and work on a low budget to begin. If the weather craps out you want to have other ways to bring people out anyway. I am sure Jim gave some good advice as well. Good luck Good name on the others. Have fun with it and be different
  9. OMG those are awesome..Thats mom in the back ground at seagoville with Georgene,(sp?) And of course Jerry in the other with you and the hog. Did you notice the telequa shot with smitty. That is 942H C172 our plane! I soloed that plane at 16, dad jumped out of it and left me in it. Thanks Rus....i think..... I think i was about 10 in that shot.... all that fat is coming back???? Some day you are gonna have to put those on disc for me. I have a ton of your shots from those days remember the elephants and the jump plane? 12. QuoteOk, i'll be the bastard : ALCHEMY= Javelin ANOMALY=Wings Who won nationals? Coincidence? I think not.Quote Ill be a bastard w/ ya. If I may add to that: Airspeed (all teams) Deland Majik Golden Knights Sugar gliders Babbalon (sp?) The list goes on.. Come to think of it, almost every group pic in the mags. have a Javelin in them The Odyssey has new features released this month. To name a few: ok all of them 13 week delivery, no really its true! Easy Grip Toggles (stay open) Easy grip Dive loops(stay open and padded) Phat Daddy reserve and cutaway handles (larger grip) Seamless reserve tray (nothing for the risers to get caught on) Internal Riser Covers (designed so you don't have to use them if you choose) Type 7 Harness Deep Reserve Handle Pocket (the Metal D ring sits in deeper, less snag) Spacer Foam back pad which also covers laterals and leg pads Take a close look at the prices, the Odyssey includes parts that others may call chargeable options. There for leveling out the price. But the bottom line is to determine what you are looking for. Comfort, Price, Design, looks, history, what ever it may be. Then accept the fact you wont get them all, so like Beezy said once pick two and go buy the one that fits those features you want. Sorry I piggy backed ya Brains. Couldn't resist
  13. Scott got enough money to get a complete system out of it. Im not necessarily dogging Scott he is a good person. When it aired a few years ago I asked him why he did it and he said for the rig... I have a tape from 1993 when I busted myself up and have never turned it in. Even when I needed money. Its funny, the other day I saw the Volvo commercial where it says that people can do amazing things when they are able to trust their equipment. It shows a Skysurfer and cameraman doing their thing..When they deploy the canopies are in the shape of the car. Then it refers to the car. I thought excellent, thats the kind of advertisement we need. Which takes to me to thought of how many people have "sold" out the sport for money. It has been going on since skydiving started. what a shame. It hurts the sport every time someone sells out. In my opinion. It then lead me to think the same thing happens when DZ's bad mouth each other to potential jumpers. That used to be a real problem 10 or more years ago, i dont think it is as bad as it was...but then here comes Skyride.... Why cant we just get along and keep our sport appearing safe rather than selling out? Love it or Leave it.
  14. wait...you want camera and i don't have a slot????? was up w/ that.... ya frnkn brit bastard!!!!!
  15. Last year we did a 12 way with second and third generation skydivers at SkyFest. We have taken the honor of claiming it as the " Unofficial World Record". No one has protested or proved otherwise so it belongs to those on the dive. Hey I wonder if my mother could make it official with Guinness Book? This year we want to break it. There were fathers, daughters and sons on this dive. It was a great mix of flying styles and experience and it was incredble! Please joins us and lets make it a 20 way! Come to SkyFest 05 at SD Spaceland on July 14-17 2005 and lets do it. If you are interested send me a pm for details. we had 20 signed up for last year but had a few no show's The list so far is: Steve Boyd SR. 2nd gen Steve Boyd Jr. 3rd gen Eric Boyd 3rd gen. Jack Berke 2nd gen. Trent Alkek 2nd gen Luke Hively 2nd gen unconfirmed but he owes me
  16. The dates are set July 14-17th at SD Spaceland. For those of you who may of known it has been a struggle to pull it off this year, but we are moving forward. Our 5th year, the biggest event in Texas. Casa. 2 Otters, Balloons, Heli and more. I will update the website this weekend so you can go there for details. I don't want this to be an Adv. We are needing ladies for the Women's Texas State Record...Belly and Freefly. Pink Patch jumps are on as well. I will have a contact person for you to sign up with on the site. If anyone wants to offer a hand before or during the event we could really use some help. We thank you so much for your support for the last 4 years and in the future. I am so jazzed with the anticipated number of Skydiving Scholarship Winners we should have this year, it will bring our total up to 40 scholarships donated across Texas. I hope this is appropriate place to put this??????
  17. AHH how flattering, very thoughtful of you.....let me think about that hmmmm NO! But you can come to FL anyway Blue ones
  18. It wasn't my sole deciding factor, but I see the Vector 3(micron) as having an all over better finish and in my limited opinion better riser covers. That and I got a good price on mine. However the only 3 rigs that I was even considering were RWS Micron, Javelin Odessy and Mirage G4. Micron won out for a few reasons
  19. Ok had to join the singles fun here. Is there a list, theres always a list, isn't there? From the looks of some of these threads the single list might get smaller....or the F kn buddy list is getting bigger Hell if we arn't jumping....we are jumping each other...lol
  20. FYI At Skydive Dallas they avoided that issue by not allowing the Student or their Student gear to be used for Freefly. Yes it can be difficult to monitor, but not really because the student is usually chatting up his last jump and some one usually hears it. I know this is off your approval topic but I thought this might throw an idea to you.
  21. Whilst I agree that Javs have always been specific in their stated max size. I disagree with the point that over size mains or reserves cause riser cover problems. I own a '93 J1 in mint condition and it houses a Hornet 150 and MR150, and I have had nothing but problems with the riser coevers. When I was at the Factory in January, they admited that it was a problem on older Javs but when I asked for a written fix to be emailed to me they said they would but it's still not here, and I've reminded them twice. It's one of the factors that lead me to order a Micron as my next container.(Even though I'm told that both Subpath and RWS are under the same company umbrella, not certain of the validity of that) From what I have learned the older products were a hit and miss situation on that issue. There are plenty of older ones with no problems. Some times the reserve packing can affect them, along with plenty of other factors as we both know. My last G4 right cover would come open when diving to the formation. Of course I am all Javelin now. I think all the Mfrs. go through some sort of learning stage in this sport, I guess we are all just test pilots for the equipment in some way. RWS and SP are not under the same umbrella, but we do build Military equipment together and work closely in the sport market. Just curious why you would change brands based on a 13 year old product, don't most products improve over time? Again that is just an assumption on my part that you are basing your decision on that. This is kind of interesting, I was demonstrating the proper way to close the riser covers last weekend to a group of packers on a brand new rig. You would think this wouldn't be a big deal 'Its just a tuck tab". They pack the first 4 jumps on this rig and each time I had to correct the covers because they weren't tucked properly, but the problem is that it will take on the improper shape if continued and ultimately fail in time. I have come to learn that these products tend to be pretty sensitive, even the "simple" things that we take for granted. Blue skies to you
  22. The extra length on the reserve handle is there for flexibility for housing movement, should be a non issue. RWS (Vector) is the sameway. The rings being close to the handle is usually only on small people, we have a new design on the reserve handle which eliminates any concerns with the rings and cable. The D ring now sits deeper into the pocket. We also have a new Phat daddy reserve and cutaway soft pad for easy grip. The main flap issue is usually wrong sized canopies installed. Note I said usually. Look at most of the freefly and RW champions they wear an Odyssey. No flap issues. Blue ones to you
  23. Jumpergirl and myself were on were on 19,and 29,I think the first one was load 7 @ Z hills.
  24. Thats what I did and it does work, especially 2 cans. I did everything like you said but I always stayed away from the reserve tray. Not sure exactly why but to me it didn't even matter if it would be a problem or not. I just thought there is really no reason for it, so why take whatever chance there may be? Probably just over thinking things though? Good stuff works great.
