  1. I think Delmarva is going to be the place to go. Thanks for the input everybody. If you see me there, I go by the nickname "lefty."
  2. I just moved from NY to MD, Annapolis area. I did a search for DZ's, but the info is kind of scarce. Does anyone jump in the Annapolis/DC area and can you suggest any good DZ close to home.
  3. Come on...there has got to be somewhere to jump out there. someone has to knwo something.
  4. I'm going down to Nassau, Bahamas on the 25th of July. I would love to jump there. I can't seem to find any dropzones though (if there are any). If anyone knows of any, please let me know.
  5. In New York it cost me about 2000 USD total for the AFF. I pieced my rig together thanks to the classifieds and it only cost 2400 USD total. And i'm not talking about a "just getting by rig" either. Good luck with whatever decision you make. Hope this helps.
  6. Gotta love pressurized cabins. Don't forget to make sure your cypres is off.
  7. Check these two webpages. Don't know where you're from because I didn't bother checking your profile but I just got back from Florida with no problems carrying on. You also may want to check out the airline that you're flying online. Most of them mention parachutes on thier websites...just have to look for it. Good luck...hope this helps. 8. Thanks to all who gave their input on the subject matter. I had my first chance to jump my new epuipment this weekend and everything was perfect. And I already baught beer so don't ask for any more.
  9. You think it's bad to not jump in one day because the winds were high? If that's the attitude that you're gonna have then maybe the sport isn't for you. As you can see, I don't have a lot of jumps under my belt for the amount of time i spent in the sport, but you know what, we all deal with the weather. It's the love of the sport that keeps us at the DZ from open to sunset for that hope that the winds will die down or the cloud cover will go away. It took me three years to complete the AFF course. There were plenty of days that I sat there from open to close without a single jump. But it dosn't mean I didn't learn anyhting. I trusted my instructors, which you should be able to do the same, and took thier advise without question when they said the winds were too high. Sure they may have been covering thier own ass just in case I got hurt, but as long as I'm still jumping to this day without one problem, I thank them. If you're at the DZ all day, talk to people. When you see them going over thier skydive or when you see your instructor doing something, ask questions. As for your issue with your instructor, you should take all the advise that has been given. It is great advise from people who have been around and even from people who know the DZ and DZO. If you really want this sport though, it will not be handed to you on a silver platter. Have fun no matter what you are doing and if you don't jump, just remember that there is always another day. Take it as god's sign that today is not your day to jump, and maybe he has a reason for that. Blue skies.
  10. My container is actually a 1994 J1. It is not labeled as a J1KS or J1KL. This is probably where the confusion comes into play. When I check sunpath's sizing chart, it only shows the "newer" sizes of the KS and KL but no mention of just the plain old J1. Thanks for the concern and the tips from everyone.
  11. thanks for all the great advise from all of you.
  12. Thanx for the quick reply...already feeling better about it.
  13. I recentley had my first rig put together. I have a spectre 170 in a javelin j1 container. The container is actually made for a 150 canopy. My rigger said that it is not a problem and the canopy would just fit tight in the conatiner...which it does. It fits so tight that the grommit holes don't fully line up when the rig is fully packed, but the closing pin does come out as normal and does not give me any problems. I guess i'm just looking for other opinions on this. I trust my rigger but i just want to hear what others might have to say about this.
  14. I have to send in a cypres I bought for it's 4 year. Not so sure about how to go about it. Any tips?
