  1. Nice! Great job. It is so nice to get the first one out of the way, takes a lot of the anxiety out of skydiving when you know that you can react appriately to a mal. Drewfus McDoofus
  2. I mirror everything the other poster said. I left the cover on my lanc port and the like because I like the fact that there is that much less area for dirt to get in and I won't loose the cover. Plus when I use it for hand held stuff it stays on. It's so easy to remove it from the D-box I don't care. I, personelly, cut a hole out over the zoom button so I could zoom in and out without taking the top of the d-box off which is handy for filming tandem landings. I also drilled a hole with a dremmel tool so I could get to the fader button for in camera editing for tandems as well. Strap on the outside is a good idea, it's what I do as well. Drewfus McDoofus
  3. Here's what I do: I bought a cheapo laser pointer from Office Max and set it up so when I activated it it points to the center of what the video camera sees. Set the ring site up so the red laser dot is in the center of the ring site when you have your neck in the position you will be filming in (cranked up for tandems, stright ahead for freeflying, et). 4. Whatever. Sorry, but while I agree that women are objectified by men and all, I also believe women do the same damn thing. We live in a highly sexualized society. Generalizations like all men want is great sex and great steak are like all other generalizations such as all women are bad drivers. I have a female roomate and lots and lots of female co-workers. If what they do in our female dominated lunching isn't sexual objectification of men then I don't know what the hell it is. I would go so far as to say that women are worse in groups than constructions workers. Hey, don't get me wrong, I agree that women have been treated terribly in our history but this kind of generalist propaganda makes it real hard to take seriousely. Ok, let the stoning begin.... 5. Where's the ten way? Oh there they are. Now where'd they go? Oh, there they are. (videoing a 10 way through a 3,000 foot thick cloud over Lodi) Drewfus McDoofus
  6. Here's my 2 cents: what we see too much in the courtroom is a parade of interested witnesses saying how great the party they are testifying for is. Find a nuetral witness (dz owner who presents well, experienced jumper, et.). Personally, if you can find statistics that show that what you do (skydiving) is safer than something he does (driving a car on the freeway) then it should neutralize the effect. Most judges are smart enough not be swayed by that sort of thing, we had a divorce case in our courtroom with a skydiver as a party. My judge didn't care a lick. Part of that may have been because I am her clerk and shoot video for a part time job. PM me if you have further questions. Drewfus McDoofus
  7. I have a stilletto 135 and would land in someone's back yard if I had to, and would be comfortable doing so. Drewfus McDoofus
  8. ..on the newly updated website for our DZ. http://www.eugeneskydivers.com/contactusandreservations.html (Drew Logerwell, Camera Flyer) Drewfus McDoofus
  9. I replaced my metal ring with a soft reserve ripcord handle and noticed that there was a little exposed cable. A friend has the same set up on his mirage and also has the exposed cable between the top of the pad and the hard housing. Someone said it was because we have chest rings as well, does this ring true to anyone? Drewfus McDoofus

    .....um.......er......well....that's kinda..um...sad? Drewfus McDoofus
  11. Right, makes sense, I stand corrected. I guess my point with the original post is why buy a stilletto, which can generate a lot of speed with not a whole lot of input, if you aren't current are loading it highly? I am Ok with the idea of buying a high performance canopy and landing it straight in. This guy scares me though especailly when one of the posters knew him and told him not to jump it. Yikes, hopefully everything works out ok. Drewfus McDoofus
  12. With your fair skin and red hair I would say the ivory would be really a nice contrast. Balck would look to stark, nude might disappear more than the average thong, at least visually. Drewfus McDoofus
  13. Ok, I'll say it: what's the point? Why bother putting yourself in peril in the emergency situations as previosely mentioned if you are not going to use a high performance canopy for high performance purposes? If people want to land straight in, slwoly, standing up then why not get a triathalon, sabre2, or saphire? They are going to be safer and easier to manage if things get hairy yet still fun to fly if loaded properly. Drewfus McDoofus
  14. Got enough contact info on your sig line? Drewfus McDoofus
  15. It becomes stalking when you attach pictures of yourself in a diaper with a pacifier. Drewfus McDoofus
  16. I ordered a Fire Fly freefly suit and had it 4 weeks to the day from the day I was measured at Eloy. Don't tell me, let me guess. Flite Suite, right? Drewfus McDoofus
  17. This is someone I know. I am getting the "ask me out" vibe from her, want to take the easy way out. Drewfus McDoofus
  18. Depends on the guy but I would say the bidding would need to start around $100. Drewfus McDoofus
  19. If, as grasshopper says, you are a low timer who is not current AND you are agressively loading a stilletto 150 then I would say it is a recipe for disaster. Here's what I saw last summer: a fairly experienced and extremely current (100+ sydives a year) skydiver downsized from a square to a 1.3 loaded stilletto. As she was setting up to land she was coming in cross wind a bit and was using her toggles to get straightened out. She ended up making some seemingly benign small turns kind of low. She ended up picking up a bunch of speed and broke a femer and degloved both knees. Small canopies bite hard. It's not that I would worry about you so much when things go as planned but if you are not used to loaded canopies and not that current then if you get into a spot (cut off, wierd winds, lots of canopy traffice, narrow outs) then a highly loaded eliptical could cost you. As a friend said once, small canopies bite hard. Drewfus McDoofus
  20. What I have done with my stilletto is start my carving 90 by going the opposite way I want to swoop then carve it back. You can alter the amount of "wrong way" turn depending on how high you are. You end up carving more than a 90 but keep the ground speed up. One piece of advice: do a carve instead of a violent hook then you can use the steepness of the hook if you are too high or low. You get the same speed without having to whip it and it gives you more time and a larger margin of error. Drewfus McDoofus
  21. Has anyone ever tried this? My thought is to teather the thing so I don't loose it, sort of like training wheels. Just a thunk. Drewfus McDoofus
  22. I jump a Sony TRV 17. Has all the same bells and whistles as some of the pc cameras plus it does digital still on memory stick. Got mine on e-bay for $800. You really want a LANC jack on the camera and the ability to use a firewire. If you go to cheap now you'll just end up buying another camera as soon as you can and the money you spend on a cheaper ($500) camera will be sort of wasted. That's my experience. Drewfus McDoofus
  23. I did a 4-way out of a cessna in the pitch black dark and thought it was way cool. Drewfus McDoofus
  24. Camera looks fine, check to see if it has digital stabilization on it. Your first videos will be shaky as all get out, don't be frustrated. It gets better with time. I use a d-box but I am almost positive they don't make one that will work for your camera. I have seen people make covers from wet suit material that work nice. Make sure to fashion some sort of strap as back up. Feel free to email me if you have specific question you want answered. Use this posting forum. PACK YOUR MAIN TO OPEN SLOW!! Drewfus McDoofus
