  2. IHI in Denmark will cover you for medical insurance (so that the biggest bills are at least covered) but i'm not sure that their travel insurance is the best. http://www.ihi.com/ Usually i've had IHI for medical cover and then a separate travel policy. Regards James

  8. Hi Charles Where are you planning on jumping? www.smartrigs.com (my company) sometimes rents out rigs ... drop me a line and i'll see what i can do
  9. To "horny955" - If it helps at all - we will always help broker the deal (via our gear store) here at Dunkeswell - you can agree a price with the seller and get them to ship the goods to us - once we receive them we will confirm that they have arrived - you then pay the seller direct and then we will release the gear to you ... That way you shouldn't get caught out ...
  10. Hi Max If you are based in the UK then you should definately take advantage of the summer to get some jumping in because winter in the UK is not the warmest way to experience your first jump!!! Why not visit one of your local DZ's for their BOOGIE (BOOGIE = BIG SKYDIVING PARTY !!!) Otherwise just come along for a beer or two
  11. Hi Mate I hope you haven't had to buy too much of that hardware ...
  12. Hi James Welcome to the forums - enjoy the banter but remember to take any advice from the internet with a large pinch of salt! If in doubt ask your local instructors / rigger / CCI as they will know you better than anyone ... and if you ever make it down to Dunkeswell - stick your head in the gearstore and say hi! James
  13. I was at the Skydive Expo, in Deland, on Saturday, March the 13th, and I saw the SEVEN, by Basik Air Concept. I had the opportunity to talk with everyone at the stand and with Jerome Bunker . What can I say! The SEVEN, double-thick spacer foam padding, cordura freebag which is part of the reserve container, the low number of flaps, the attention to detail , the quality of workmanship , etc .... ... an awesome rig ! Kudos. Well thank you - it was good to meet you too (and i'm pleased that you liked our rig) - we're very proud of the SEVEN
  14. Hi there As the owner of SMARTRIGS i have to admit that i am biased from the start! New Gear vs Used Gear is a long discussion that has been covered many times in the past so i will try to keep my reply brief! I decided to run this program as we were getting requests from people who were finding it difficult to find a used container that fitted them properly that was equipped with suitable canopies for their experience level. Using this program new jumpers are able to get a harness that fits them properly from the outset and downsize their canopies without having to try and find a buyer for them later (and taking a subsequent financial hit in most cases). For those jumpers who are based in the UK and that are of an 'average' size we actually have some demo rigs which we simply give to the new jumper to use whilst we prepare their 'new rig'. For example someone may finish their AFF and borrow a 190 demo rig from us and jump it for 2-3 months, they may then borrow a 170 from us and put a load more jumps on that before finally collecting their new 150 which is correctly sized for them and made to fit their current canopy (and them!). For other people outside of the UK (or those that need a specific harness size that we are unable to supply as a demo rig) we offer the above system where we make and supply a complete custom sized harness - container with their starting canopy (210 / 190 / 170 etc) after a pre-determined time or number of jumps the person returns their original canopy to us and takes delivery of their new smaller canopy without further charge. This allows someone to downsize safely without the temptation to jump / purchase a system with a smaller than recommended canopy simply because it was a 'cheap deal' or because they decided to buy a canopy smaller than they currently need because they tried to cut corners and save a few $$$'s. I trust that this makes sense and will try to answer any questions that people may have! Regards James
  15. I felt the Expo went really well - despite the poor weather everyone seemed to have a good time and it seemed well organised. We were pretty busy on the Basik stand with lots of people coming to see our SEVEN container and our canopies. The feedback that we received from everyone - jumpers, Riggers etc was excellent! I would like to say a big THANKYOU to everyone who attended and to everyone who gave their time to make this event such a success!!! See you all at the next EXPO !!!
  16. Hi F. Good choice of container ... If anyone wants to see these containers for themselves then Basik will be at the Skydive Expo next week in Deland ... So feel free to drop by and have a look for yourself and bring your rigger
  17. Hi Nataly Unless you can prove that the delay or some action (or lack of) effectively caused the subsequent delay and effective decrease in value to the property i think that you are not going to get anything from the mortgage company. Could he not effectively buy your share of the property from you? - Although this would still not remove you from liablity if the mortgage were to default ... Or if it is because you want to buy a property could he not give you the £68000 toward your deposit and you draw up an agreement effectively re-nouncing your claim on the joint property when it is eventually sold? To be fair none of these situations are ideal but i'd hate having to give the mortgage company £68000 just to transfer the property!!!
  18. Yep - those are the latest models - older models without the stop/start technology will be getting a few MPG less - but for a decent car that is fast enough for most people then they make amazing reading. The 316d manages to average almost 63 mpg but you lose a fair bit of acceleration and top end speed - so i still rate the 320D as the best balance overall. Even the landrover freelander with it's new diesel engine is now quoted at 42+ mpg average which is pretty good for an SUV ...
  19. To be honest i think the price issue is a question of supply and demand - there are far more diesel BMW's in Europe. They are very popular due to the MPG obtained. In the past it may have been that the 'type' of diesel sold in the US was lower quality mainly for truck / lorry use and as such wasn't suited for the BMW engines. The fact that they are now on sale in the US means that you shouldn't have any issues now and i would strongly recommend one. A few years ago i had a 120D BMW as a run around - it was awesome - 0 - 60 in 7.9 secs and at times 55+ MPG which in a car that is now 6 years old was unbelievable. The new 320D with it's stop start technology is giving an average of almost 60MPG and is still capable of hitting 143mph and doing 0 - 60 in 7.9 secs. The 330D will hit 155 mph and do 0-60 in just over 6 secs and still give an average of almost 48 mpg ... Got to love those diesel engines !!!
  20. Well my old Skoda that i've just sold used to average between 45 mpg on a bad day to around 54 / 55 mpg on a good run (it was a TDI). My diesel BMW used to do an average of 50 mpg and that was a 5 series. The new generation petrol and diesel engines that are appearing in some cars are quoting average mpg's of 60 - 70! Which is awesome ... Unfortunately gas seems to be $10 - $11 a gallon here so the extra miles per gallon are needed to keep the costs down - i filled my car up a few weeks ago and it cost $110 !!!
  21. Exactly - 6 weeks vacation in the UK is highly unlikely Especially for anyone who likes to jump regularly !!!
  22. X-Fun 190 = 395 cu Inches but it is a 9 cell
