  1. Although I voted "no, we're big boys n girls".... I would definatly put it into the "strongly" reccommended" catagory. I am still a newbie in MOST aspects and I look forward to taking a canopy course some time in the near future as I KNOW that it will only enhance my abilities, making me a safer skydiver/canopy pilot and ensuring the longevity of our beautiful sport. 2. Even when I am not traveling on airlines, I keep my rig in a carry on sized roller bag. Makes it easy to store in my house/dry and away from light. The roller bag makes it ease to get it from 1 place to another with out slinging it over my back. I too carry it on board for the same reasons that the previous poster does/I want to watch it for the WHOLE trip. I dont need some futard pulling my reserve handle or messin' with something that they shouldnt. Good luck.. safe travels... oh.. and BLUE SKIES If flying is piloting a plane.. then swimming is driving a boat. I know why birds sing.. I skydive.
  3. More focus so that I can organize my life/time better and free up more time to do the things I ejnoy. peace/blue skies If flying is piloting a plane.. then swimming is driving a boat. I know why birds sing.. I skydive.
  4. tandem 5 (soon to 7), AFF 2 /as soon as they get their funds together.. but we all know that the mouth is one thing.. actually doing it is another. Everybody else.... just a whufo.. blue skies If flying is piloting a plane.. then swimming is driving a boat. I know why birds sing.. I skydive.

  6. Looks like we may have another to add to the fold!!! Good luck.. and welcome to the wonderful world of skydiving If flying is piloting a plane.. then swimming is driving a boat. I know why birds sing.. I skydive.
  7. Sooo.. curious.. if you're already @5k+ @ground level. What flight level to exit at? How much free fall time? Thanks... blue skies If flying is piloting a plane.. then swimming is driving a boat. I know why birds sing.. I skydive.
  8. Is this the "daughter" in question? If so.. nice post. Nuttin like a quick "hi dad" on a blog to grab his attention! Hope he lets you go.. although...only 2 more years till you're 18! and away you go (sorry dad.. Im a skydiver who wants more skydivers in the sport! ) Hope to see you both in the blue skies.. till then... blessings If flying is piloting a plane.. then swimming is driving a boat. I know why birds sing.. I skydive.
  9. I wish that I could say that it is one of the other resons stated above.. for me, its a matter of time. Life is SOOOOO dang busy! and the skydiving lifestyle is not that way.. after all.. how many times have you gone to the DZ only to find either a weather hold or not enuf people to get the plane in the air. Dont get me wrong! I am not complaining.. I wish that I could afford more days in my life like that.. hangin' out at the DZ, not caring what time it is.. not caring if Im going to be able to get that next jump in before I HAVE to go take care of one of lifes other requirements.. Ahh if I could only be independantly wealthy! So, long answer short.. I guess, it would only be ME that can make ME go to the DZ more often. If flying is piloting a plane.. then swimming is driving a boat. I know why birds sing.. I skydive.
  10. No worries bruh! no burn felt... trust me, was a thought that went thru my mind as well. However.. after carefull consideration and lengthy discussions with my instructors and DZ operator, I had downsized to this size canopy earlier in my training and weighed more than I do now... got comfortable with the size canopy that I have now. In retrospect, and in reading more of the forums, I probably would not have gotten to the 175 that I have now AS quickly, but am very happy with that which I have. No issues so far.. knock on wood.. will continue to listen to strong advice, learn as much as I can and hopefully continue an injury free skydivng carreer. Thanks for the post! blue skies If flying is piloting a plane.. then swimming is driving a boat. I know why birds sing.. I skydive.
  11. As other posters have stated.. you obviously made at least one of the right decisions.. as it sounds as if there were multiple "right" answers. Get out/Stay in... eh... me? well.. I jump at Lodi and Davis California.. if you've been to Lodi.. you'll understand that as it is Im already looking forward to getting to at least hop n pop altitude. So.. if a loud bang happens and a pilot tells me to get out... Im gone.. a little walk back to an airfield beats becoming tarmack pizza or an airframe pasta toss.. Again.. I was not there.. can not say for YOU what was the RIGHT answer at THAT moment in time. But I am thankfull that you are still around to experience the blue skies! Continued success and blessings! If flying is piloting a plane.. then swimming is driving a boat. I know why birds sing.. I skydive.
  12. guy 1)no 2)yes 3)no If flying is piloting a plane.. then swimming is driving a boat. I know why birds sing.. I skydive.
  13. In addition to the prev posts to shaking(which GREATLY helps in my flaking) I look where the slider is quartered to assist with seperating the lines and getting down into the body of the chute to see where flaking needs to take place. It will only be a matter of time before you will begin to just "see" where the flaking occurs. And wow.. most folks (like myself!) have the issues with getting the darn thing into the D bag... not the flaking part.. so you're above the curve!!! good luck.. blue skies If flying is piloting a plane.. then swimming is driving a boat. I know why birds sing.. I skydive.
  14. Carefull instruction and close supervision bring about safe skydivers. Obviously that is what you want your daughter to be, safe, in ANY situation, skydiving or otherwise. Sounds like with her GPA, she has a good head on her shoulders. I guess Id say dont be TOO strict as sometimes that has a reverse affect on children when coming from their parents. But if her passion for the sport is there, let her live her dreams! As you already know, the disciplines that you can learn from skydiving are applicable to many of lifes circumstances.. Also, what a blessing to be able to share that passion with not only another skydiver, but your daughter! Blue skies to you both! If flying is piloting a plane.. then swimming is driving a boat. I know why birds sing.. I skydive.
  15. Lodi is a blast.. and although I would say its "chilly", my fellow jumpers in the mid west and north west states would call me a wuss! as there is no snow on the ground at any time! temps at night can drop down to the mid 30's.. nothing that a tent/sleeping bag wont handle! Daytime temps usually 50's to mid 60's on the ground. Also, ususally sunny with some clouds. Light to moderate winds usually out of the west. Number of jumps will obviously be dictated by the number of people @the DZ on any given day. Fri>Sun are more busy than the rest of the week. Sat and Sun you should be able to jump to your hearts content, but dont count on Bill runnin' things all the way up to sunset if the loads arent there! Rocklin,CA and Davis/skydance are other good places not too far from there and also GREAT! places to jump.. nice views of Sacramento, lake barryessa. I enjoy them. Open year round, filled with lots of friendly fun folks! Hope to see you there! Until then... blue skies! If flying is piloting a plane.. then swimming is driving a boat. I know why birds sing.. I skydive.
  16. I NEVER fall thru or too close to ANY cloud!!! Now.... industrial haze is a whole different story! If flying is piloting a plane.. then swimming is driving a boat. I know why birds sing.. I skydive.
  17. Ok.. so, Im preaching to the choir here.. but the dude who wrote that blog is an inconsiderate, uninformed blow hard! He can take a long walk off a short pier! Long live skydivers!! Blue skies If flying is piloting a plane.. then swimming is driving a boat. I know why birds sing.. I skydive.
  18. Get packin'! bye bye C ya If flying is piloting a plane.. then swimming is driving a boat. I know why birds sing.. I skydive.
  19. Have read quite a few posts as well as entries in Parachutist mag that would make any of my life changes due to skydiving seem small and insignificant.. however I am changed... I can never look @the sky the same, as another poster, its like leaping into a painting!! planes are now only vehicles to jump out of.. large pieces of fabric are only to fasion together with lines to attach me to the sky! (and beer is now the beverage of choice! lol) I have met people that have become my friends.. friends that have become my family and God willing, a lifestyle that I dont have to change anytime soon. Blue skies. If flying is piloting a plane.. then swimming is driving a boat. I know why birds sing.. I skydive.
  20. Ok... cant hold back any longer.. here's my .02 Prop 8 is all about the $$ Insurance companies dont want to have to pay out. the money that then "gay couples" would be entitled to. Religious zealots are making it out to be something more than it is. And dont get me wrong.. I am religious. And if you were to ask me if gay marriage were FOR ME???... then, no. But if you think for one moment that man can take away or solidify that which is defined by God, you are sorely mistaken. Man can call the sky green if they want... write a law that says the sky is green and will always be called green. But does that actually change the color of the sky? NO!! This prop is only a divisive law, aimed at taking away the rights of persons who should be entitled to make decisions about their loved ones. Wake up people. Realize the consequences of your actions. You "yes on 8" ers might wake up one day to find your rights stripped from you just because a majority wanted to now say "green skies" skydivers. If flying is piloting a plane.. then swimming is driving a boat. I know why birds sing.. I skydive.
  21. Ok folks.. the holidays are quickly approaching.. that means the season to be eating. With that said, I am curious... With every pound that we as skydivers gain, it puts us at a higher wing loading for our canopies. This is the first holiday season that I will have owned my gear.. and know that I will need to watch my weight a little closer to keep my wing loading consistant. ( I'm still just a noob and not trying to get into a tricky situation all over some turkey and dressing! Soooo, the question is for all..... do you worry about your weight for concern for your wing loading or not? Thanks ! Blue skies. If flying is piloting a plane.. then swimming is driving a boat. I know why birds sing.. I skydive.
  22. Hey bro! I don't know you... but umm... I think that the neighborhood that you say you miss... probably miss you too! It was ALLLLLLL way to recent that I didnt have my own gear and couldn't afford my own gear! That still didnt keep me connected to the village that kept me whole! I can garantee that you are not forgotten.. return to that which completes you... if it is your calling.. blue skies If flying is piloting a plane.. then swimming is driving a boat. I know why birds sing.. I skydive.
  23. So often times, we hear of the negative experiences that happen at a DZ and not the positive ones. With that said, I wanted to say thank you! skydance/skydive, Davis,CA. Although not my original home DZ, I now proudly call it "home". Everyone there has been nothing but helpful, always going out of their way to ensure that I am safe and having a good time. I have the opportunity to go to other drop zones in the area that are cheaper, and sometimes go when money is tighter than norma, but have found that you do "get what you pay for". Not saying anything negative about the other drop zones and the way that they are run.. that is their business. Just wanted to post a positive review for my home DZ. Soooo, if you're lookin for fun jumpin' in Northern Cali!... Skydance/Davis, CA is the place for you! Thanks Neil! I'll be there as much as I can afford! If flying is piloting a plane.. then swimming is driving a boat. I know why birds sing.. I skydive.
  24. Thanks for the short list ....Now what do I now that Im a jedi master If flying is piloting a plane.. then swimming is driving a boat. I know why birds sing.. I skydive.
  25. Go JUMP! as much as you can! There will always be persons @your DZ that will be willing to jump with you. Learn as much as you can from those around you! Live to love, love to jump, jump to live! Blue skies! If flying is piloting a plane.. then swimming is driving a boat. I know why birds sing.. I skydive.
