  1. You're never too old! huh?!? Welllllllll ok... I guess there MIGHT be a limit... but that wouldn't be up to me to determine.. thats for sure.. Just recently celebrated my 40th jump and 40th B-day... POP's here I come! Congrats gentlemen... keep on living.. cuz Ive heard once you stop usin' it.. you lose it! Sooo blue skies! 2. Thanks skymama! Wasnt tryin' to point anyone in the wrong direction! But ahhhhhh theres some road I've heard of that is paved with good intentions as well! Only havin' some fun with the original thread poster! Blue skies! If flying is piloting a plane.. then swimming is driving a boat. I know why birds sing.. I skydive.
  3. Ok.. so, you've been to Acampo.. Lodi.. whatever you want to call it. I took my training there as well(thanks again Mikey! ) Took 3 days over a 3 week period to complete the AFF class. After completing my AFF class, I did not have the $$ to jump THAT many times every month. But went to Lodi as often as I could. Soooo... to say that you will NEED that many jumps is not necessarily the case. Currency may be an issue, however, I wouldnt hesitate to go thru your AFF or Static Line class, which ever you choose. This sport IS as life changing as they say that it is. You will NEVER be the same whether you continue to jump or even stop at the jump number that you are at! right? There is a new drop zone in Lincoln (off of Hwy 65, so.. a little closer than Lodi, havn't been there yet, but hope to get there soon) Davis/Skydance.net is another GREAT! place where I have also taken to going to on a regular basis as possible. Lots of friendly folks to go around! If you have any other questions about my experiences @ Lodi or Davis, drop me a line/PM, will be happy to share! Blue skies where ever you go! 4. Wont EVER forget the 1st time that I jumped w/out gloves in the winter.. that of course what the LAST time that I jumped in the winter w/out gloves! Can you say "never again!?!?!" go go gadget wind proof.. If flying is piloting a plane.. then swimming is driving a boat. I know why birds sing.. I skydive.
  5. LOL C'mon out to northern california where we dont really have an "off" season. The weather is great and the chest straps are good and strong! blue skies If flying is piloting a plane.. then swimming is driving a boat. I know why birds sing.. I skydive.
  6. Thank you for the pointer to the video forum... yes there are a ton of questions/answers. Sooo , I will go there for a lot of the info that I was looking for..thanks! But please, feel free to continue to comment on thread if you would like. Thanks again for the input! Greatly appreciated! If flying is piloting a plane.. then swimming is driving a boat. I know why birds sing.. I skydive.
  7. Cost for licensing for most of the songs that you would norm want to choose from is what Im getting at! Soo.. then I guess my next question for this thread would be... and not to have you tell me what bands that you HAVE used because that MIGHT be illegal So say you have seen some RANDOM video that had good music to it... what was the band that was playing? IF you could license just 1 song for your skydiving video projects.. what would it be? and for x tra credit ..
  8. Manufacturing time definatly was a factor in my decision to buy used. I was actually able to find the type of harness/main/reserve in used condition MUCH faster than I would have been able to get them new. I did have to compromise on the colors obviously, but for me, fuctionality/saftey take precidence over asthetics.. and my desire to jump without having to pay for rentals or jump on gear that is not mine to get used to. I opted for used, havn't been disapointed yet. May find out differently some day when I do break down and get the "brand new rig" and wait in upward of 1 1/2 years to get it! Until then.. very happy with what I got. Blue skies If flying is piloting a plane.. then swimming is driving a boat. I know why birds sing.. I skydive.
  9. Hey TI's, AFI's, Videogrophers !! Have a question for you all.. I am a singer/songwriter and was wondering what the demand is out there for original music for those special skydiving moments that end up on DVD's and slide shows from you guys? why you ask? Well, in my pursuit of my other passion besides skydiving.. music.. I am seing if I might be able to blend the two and possibly help me and my skydiving community with music that I have written.. with that said... What kind of music do you like to include on those DVD's ( Rock? Pop? Metal? R&B? Techno? ) Do you like words with the music? or just instrumentals? How long would you like songs to be? How much would you be willing to pay for use with your vids? for a song? 5 songs? A cd of songs? Have any of you had trouble with using copywritten works? Help me understand if this is a niche that is worth pursuing. Thanks for the input.. blue skies If flying is piloting a plane.. then swimming is driving a boat. I know why birds sing.. I skydive.
  10. Welcome and congrats on your training! Take the politics to the bonfire forum... only positive stuff here! blue skies If flying is piloting a plane.. then swimming is driving a boat. I know why birds sing.. I skydive.
  11. Gear fear can be a paralizing thought process.. and all at the wrong time! NO rigger wants their reserve pack job to be the last ride that a person takes. I trust my local rigger to make sure that everhthing is "A OK" and that in the hopefully unlikley even that I do have to use the reserve, all will work just fine. Know your gear, visually inspect/check it before jumping. Ask for advice for any unusual or suspect situations that may arise. Minimize risk, maximize the fun! If flying is piloting a plane.. then swimming is driving a boat. I know why birds sing.. I skydive.
  12. 1st, welcome to the wonderfull world of skydiving! I think each person handles their 1st tandem/skydive differently. If you look at some of the vids that you can find online... you will find a miriad of responses ranging from calm/serene to jumping up & down hugging strangers or going to the nearby bar with their tandem harness still on!!! Sooo, I would'nt say that there is a norm. I was amped up on adreinalin but was still calm. Knew instantly that it was going to be something that I wanted to do as long as I could. Facing my fears and taking on skydiving was one of the BEST decisions in life that I have made and am fairly sure that if you continue to pursue the sport you will find it as addicting and rewarding as any sport could be! Whatever your choice.. best of luck and blue skies If flying is piloting a plane.. then swimming is driving a boat. I know why birds sing.. I skydive.
  13. Soooo...here's what I've been told... and it pretty much echo's what has been said in the thread... cool and dry storage away from dust/light. I live in Northern Cali, so..thankfully we dont really have an "off" season/just days that it would be better to NOT jump! On the "NOT" jumping days I will either store the rig packed and then in a small rolling suitcase(like those for carry on to airline flights) so that if I do need to move it around I can do so with relative ease and with out exposing the rig to light/dust. The other way I'll store my rig, I borrowed the idea from my local rigger... and that is to store the main flaked/semi folded in a plastic container with lid, in a cool/dry place. Both methods avoid light/dust with a minimal amount of rub against the container or main during movement. A month doesnt go by that Im not jumping at least once so my reserve doesnt ususally see the light of day until reserve repack time. Thanks for all the input.. was kinda wondering what other people did. If flying is piloting a plane.. then swimming is driving a boat. I know why birds sing.. I skydive.
  14. Absolutly! I'm all for good conversation! Truly, sincerely.. I do appreciate ALL views.. might not agree.. but thats ok! still appreciate the different perspectives! mr music - - this is very good banter. If flying is piloting a plane.. then swimming is driving a boat. I know why birds sing.. I skydive.
  15. Thanks! for link to vid... amazing pics. Look forward to seeing more if possible! If flying is piloting a plane.. then swimming is driving a boat. I know why birds sing.. I skydive.
  16. Once again, wow... didn't know my statements about driving and skydiving would produce such banter. But honostly, I was only trying to bring into focus the fact that there are risks in EVERYTHING we do. From the point that we wake up (hopefully) to the point that we go to sleep. EVERYTHING could be given a risk factor. And yes, I will agree that skydiving might have a higher number in that risk colomn than driving, however you got to your answer! But ahhhh.. statistics can be construed to show what ever the person who is calculating those odds wants, it all depends on how the information is manipulated for the given outcome. With that said, I choose to live life in the moment.. that sometimes takes the form of skydiving (and I feel the most excellent form of "living in the moment" I might add ) and sometimes that will take the form of driving my car, or drinking a hot liquid while driving that car that may spill in my lap, may cause me to hit the center divide, hit other people in the process and kill us all.... a bunch of "what if's" no matter what route you take. Its all about minimizing what risks are involved. Bottom line, Im happy when I can skydive. My family wants me to be happy (as I feel that your families should feel about all of you as well!) Some family members understand why I do in life what I do and some family members dont. For those who dont... well... they just dont understand, and if after trying to explain they still dont understand... oh well. no love lost, we just wont talk about skydiving. Thank you all for the thread input... has been entertaining and enlightening to me. Safe blue skies to all. If flying is piloting a plane.. then swimming is driving a boat. I know why birds sing.. I skydive.

  18. suck donkeys! man ! sorry to hear. karma is a bitch.. reap what you sow.. treat others like you want to be treated... the sayings are different but they all mean the same thing= dont steal someone else's stuff!!!!!! good luck in getting your stuff back or compensation for it (although it is the $$, its also about having your personal life violated by a scum bag! my house has been unsuccessfully attempted to be broken into 2x in the last month! and 1x succesfull where they took just some stuff before my neighbors showed up! ..so I feel your pain!) If flying is piloting a plane.. then swimming is driving a boat. I know why birds sing.. I skydive.

I look forward to more of that soon as well. C'mon on out to northern Cali for some beautiful weather and fun folks to jump with. We look forward to seein' ya! Until then... continued good luck with your training and blue skies! If flying is piloting a plane.. then swimming is driving a boat. I know why birds sing.. I skydive.
