  2. The original intent of social security was to provide a blanket for folks that had nothing when they got old. The unfortunate truth in life is that there will always be people who have nothing and will need help. Back in the "good old days" a community took care of its own, however, it just doesn't work that way anymore, nor can it, there are just too many of us. I say we should consider all income as a base. After all, the more ya have the less you will miss (heck, if you're making all that much you probably aren't paying taxes anyway, which is why I think a flat tax on everything has merit) If you have been fortunate enough to be able to position yourself to be able to retire with $10,000 in your pocket each and every month...do you really need an extra $1200..let me amend that...if you make over $25,000 a month. I see no reason for you to collect a social security check. bask in the glow that you are helping folks less fortunate than yourself. Line item veto-- the original intent, I believe, was that a bill should be able to stand on it's own merits, the purpose of amending it was to refine it, not sneak in pork and butt butter on a otherwise great and necessary bill. Obamacare is a classic example...is there anyone that knows what all is in it? Yes, in the short run it will give unbelievable power to the president, for one term at which time he or she will suddenly learn that each and every time they screw the people the people will know about it and they, and their party will not be reelected. 3. Had it yesterday, They mellowed me out, did the nerve block and then general. Kinda remember my arm twitching as they poked around, didn't feel squat. was advised that I'd get tingling in fingers, hand, lower arm..take meds now. Nurse told me "you shoulder is going to be really pissed off at you when the block wears off!" Never got tingles, functions just slowly came back. Down side of the block is that it makes your voice hoarse and affected my breathings. (was explained prior to opting for the block) Now, 24 hours later, shoulder isn't pissed, just a little angry, numbness all gone, voice all better and can cough. On second pill. SOS #1314
  4. It seems to me if our esteemed representatives were serious they would: #1. adjust social security, pay the tax on ALL the money you make, ya earn 3 million- ya pay on 3 million. #2. adjust social security, if you are making over $100,000 a year in retirement then I don't think ya "need" that social security check. and #3... Line Item Veto ! (yeah, like that will ever happen, but it would sure make a lot of one term presidnets!) SOS #1314
  5. What...a gun for your son, man what have you been doing...teaching him responsibility???? 10-22's are for ever, but a bolt will teach him to think and aim, not spray and pray. Look for used, too. It's amazing what a serious cleaning will do to a .22 that "don't shoot no more". SOS #1314
  6. Yeah, the professional politicians have done one hell of a job with this country haven't they ! DO NOT REELECT ANY ONE ! It's the only way that these bastards and bastardettes will learn they work for us. SOS #1314
  7. there are only two people that can understand a Marine....another Marine and the enemy! SOS #1314
  8. Best part of the procedure is the recovery area, all these prim and proper people having to toot before they can leave--- there's a reason they call it giggle-gas. SOS #1314
  9. Sportster is a great bike, I learned the basics on a little Honda and first bike I bought was an XLH - yes, a learning experience. I still have a Sportster, 2004- but it is top heavy and hard to push around at very, very slow speeds. I understand that the clutch is much improved but it's a serious consideration, riding isn't fun if it hurts to pull the clutch after a few miles of traffic! Both feet on the ground when she is sitting still - BOTH feet, very embarassing to tip over cause you are on your tippy-toes- Honda makes some very nice smaller V-twins, bullet proof and will do everything needed. Crotch-rocket - don't go there, takes a special learning curve (also have a K12GT, can be very scary and it's really not a crotch rocket. be safe SOS #1314
  10. inexpensive, and works---Charter Arms BullDog in .44 special ! SOS #1314
  11. Does anyone have any info about either of these two projects??? SOS #1314
  12. OK, for you folks that have been jumping for a while, you can just hit the delete and move on….but,… I just gotta share my exuberance. Knowing that, like me, there are other folks out there trying to decide to take the first plunge and others who are pondering on taking the second ---- do it !!!! My first tandem a couple weeks ago was sensory overload, the first few seconds between leaving the plane and getting stable are pretty much lost but it was a great ride! Today, on the other hand, rather than feeling like a piece of baggage being carried by the instructor I felt more like a person that just happened to have an instructor between my back and the container. I was overly conscious of the time it took to become stable. How can I describe it---- WOW, arch/exit, tumble, stable – HEY, that, arch stuff really works!!!! I was amazed at how long 60 seconds is, but I will admit, if you asked me what the altimeter was showing each time I looked at it I can’t tell ya, but when it hit 6000 I was locked on, what happened to 59, 58, 57 and 5600- I don’t know, but at 5500 I waved off and pulled. The rest of the trip was equally amazing. Anyway, if you new folks, like myself, are asking yourself if you want to go for it – DO IT ! Not too old, Jim SOS #1314
  13. Having just taken the initial plunge I have two questions… At what temperature does it become uncomfortable to skydive? It is recommended that a person not go over 30 days between jumps. My schedule (and pocketbook) will not permit me to jump every week and winter is approaching here in Pa/NJ/De area. Sure don’t want to start something and then 4 jumps down the road find it to cold to finish. Second question concerns used gear. I’ve been looking at ads and see gear for a very reasonable price and then note that the DOM is 1995 or 97. Or I’ve seen ads where the seller states that “it’s been hanging in the closet for X years…” So, at what point does fabric/construction become compromised due to age and at what number of jumps do fabric/lines become compromised?
