  1. Exactly what I'm saying.........Glad someone who is doing both gets it.
  2. Ian, There are few on here who's opinion I respect, but knowing your involvment in the discipline, i respect yours. Please explain further, why you feel a flat toggle turn is better than rears to avoid a landing collision? Do you feel toggles are still better than Rears if you are already on rears?
  3. Whatever Dude...........I'm done arguing. You're right.........See you on the sidelines wathcing.
  4. Not sure where you are getting that at all. I think I have clearly stated that Tunnel Time relates equally to Freefall Time and not the other stuff. And that is what I believe the OP's original question was. Not sure why people feel the need to add all the extra obvious things that make skydiving different to tunnel flying.
  5. A Saphire II loaded at 3:1 will be much more aggressive than a Crossfire II loaded at 1.4:1 Who cares when the tipping point is. You shouldnt load up canopies that arent designed to be. So its a mute point.
  6. That was a really ugly failure for not much input. Very scary stuff. But this would make an EXCELLENT Sky Hook Ad !!!
  7. Well I guess that's why folks with a couple hundred jumps, no ratings, and 1000's of tunnel hours were on the last HD World Record. Because they lacked the skydiving skills. I dont consider anyone with 500 jumps and a Tandem Rating a Tandem Master. Nor would they take any of my friends or family up. I think it's an obvious "No SHIT", that you can't practice canopy flight, aircraft exits, Tracking (Like thats even difficult), and Canopy Control in a Tunnel, and whatever other long list of typical responses are that protect ego's. I regularyly see tunnel flyers passing by traditional skydivers with little difficulty. They have the body flying skills and confidence, to where they are not worrying about the freefall portion of flying. This frees them up to concentrate on and quickly learn the other skills, minus canopy flight - which takes thousands of jumps to master. And No I'm not just a tunnel rat (150 Hrs), I also have just under 2000 jumps. For anyone who's wondering.
  8. I guess it depends on the context of how you are landing. I'm already on REARS.............as are allot who are swooping. So Switching to toggles to make a flat turn, doesnt make sense to me. Avoiding the collision with REARs makes sense to me under that situation. However IF swooping without rears letting up on your left toggle to turn right, does make a bit more sense.
  9. I agree with most of what you said. But I read the original question more along the lines of Freefall skills only. He mentioned skill level specific to freefall. And yes you can deploy a parachute in the Tunnel............Once.
  10. This is the BEST Tunnel Video I've seen in a very long time. Way to go Chris so glad you able to acheive this goal !!!! Hey Earl and Carlos very cool.
  11. Yes I think it is safer to turn away to the right using rear risers over toggles, while landing. BUT.........you should practice up high with Rears many times before attempting this while landing. because its easier to stall your canopy while landing on rear risers. you should know the stall point on rears at altitude before attempting while landing. I disagree that Flat Turns, which use toggles, should be used while landing. thats basically a toggle turn with no altitude. A Flat Turn is better used with a couple hundred feet or more of altitude.
  12. You sound like one of those skydivers that refuse to accept tunnels. Tunnel Time will have you outperforming those who only jump from planes very quickly. I'll leave it like this. The BEST Skydiving teams and competitors in the world, spend lots of time in tunnels. It's a fact that to be competitive you need both. So why would you rate a minute of tunnel as equal to .01 jump? Is that ignorance or arrogance?
  13. All I noticed by adding length to my risers was more range on rears and toggles. With an easier chance of stalling on rears. I noticed nothing with regard to my dive or recovery arc or flight characteristics of my canopy.
  14. I coached them all. Contact me for training. btw.....that is a Lie and a Joke.
  15. Well stated Simon. Dave Brown was one of the funniest and most fun people I've met in this sport. And very gracious with his knowledge and time. I'm glad I got to meet and hang out with him. BSBD.......Dave Brown
  16. Sick Video. Love that scenery in fthe skydiving section. What a beautiful place to jump.
  17. Beginners..........Everyone of You.
  18. Talk to the Instructors. I have 100+ hours in the tunnel, but stay out of the way with 1st time flyers until they can fly well enough to justify it. A new flyer is very unpredictable and can very quickly put themselves in danger. Since the Tunnel Instructor needs to be able to make the save, it's best if I'm not getting in their way. I took my nephew in and after about 10 min's he was doing well enough for me to join him in the tunnel. But not everyone picks it up that quickly.
  19. Call them up and see if they take your payment.........If so then its a scam. At minimum they are not involved in either skydiving or indoor skydiving because they mentioned two DZ's that have no tunnels, as having them. Further...............There are no indoor wind tunnels in Atlanta. The closest are an outdoor tunnel in Tennesee, the Orlando FL Indoor Wind Tunnel, or the Paraclete XP Tunnel in North Carolina.
  20. Paraclete XP is the Tunnel in Raeford, NC. There are no discounts for Military, or Bundles of time, that I'm aware of. But there are weekly and monthly membership options that might be feasible for you. Call them and ask what your options are. I'd think a weekly membership would be the best way to go.
  21. If you're experienced enough in the tunnel you'll know the hand signals...........and more importantly the tunnel driver will listen to you when you use them. Just because you think you're ready for more power doesn't mean you are.
  22. Why do people in our sport choose to destroy it by using it as a tool for suicide. Makes no sense.
  23. Awesome Video............I think the 2012 World Record is going to happen Quickly. Great Talent in Europe.
  24. May be a really good idea to take the Mayor, Town Councilmen, and some residents, down to Paraclete so they can hear for themselves how quiet the new tunnels are. You could also post a video on your website standing outside of a Tunnel while its running and you are talking, and have a decibel meter in your hand. Landscaping and architecture plans, and designs that integrate the structure into the structures surroundings. I think some PR with your local politicians, and lead opponents could go a long way. Also try to do some research on how this tunnel will bring jobs and tax revenue into the local economy. Good Luck.
