  1. This is a real Bummer. Jack was an awesome person. I new him from CSS and was there when he had his accident. Watched him walk out of that hospital. We kept in touch over the years since then. I make a habit of keeping in touch with Quality Human Beings. Think I'll keep his number in my cell as a reminder. I'll miss you Jack Hammer. BSBD Buddy.
  2. Sick and Cool, but I hope low time Base Jumpers don't start trying it. Looks to me as dangerous as proximity flying. Actually it looks more dangerous than proximity flying.
  3. IF we are talking diving out after the Base. I usually cartwheel head down right out the door with my back to the prop on an Otter, Pac, Caravan. On a Tailgate plane a simple cartwheel to head down with my back facing the ramp. These are the quickest diving techniques for getting to the base. Floating is different on a side door aircraft you leave a half second before the Base cartwheel head towards the aircraft and with you back facing the tail. super float on your back and pop back up to the base. Floating on a tailgate you exit a half second before the base chest facing the Plane. Cartwheel to the center and hang out kind of between your back and HD and push back up to the base. Diving you want to go fast........floating you want to go slower.
  4. Kirk Verner and Andy Honigbaum are both XP coaches for RW and both world class competitors. Andy was on the Golden Knights and Arizona Airspeed. Kirk was an original member of Airspeed. Cant think of better RW coaches than them.
  5. Yes I think it was Fabric issues. The original ones didnt hold up so well.
  6. Whats the rush??? Do you just want boxes cheked off, or do you want to really fly well. I see so many folks caught up in getting good fast. Do you really think the tunnel instructors just blew through their progressions and mastered tunnel flying. No they didn't, most of them have hundreds to thousands of hours of flight time. Slow down and learn how to fly........You don't need to master every position to move on to the next.....But there's also no race to win in the tunnel.........5 Hours to get on your head is BS. It could take you 1 hour it could take you 20 hours.
  7. You know.....now that I look at it. The D-Box looks pretty square. So I'm guessing this wont be a problem top mounting on a Bonehead Optik. Only remaining Question would be if anyone freeflys with this setup. I know with a Side Mount Box, you can swivel the box to get your shot in frame. I would think with a Top mount you'd need a shim to adjust the angle.......if even necessary.
  8. Looks like the new Bonehead CX-150 D-Box would have to lay on it's side to top mount it to a helmet. Looks like the hinges are on the top and bottom of the D-Box Looking at it makes me think I'd have to side mount the new Bonehead CX-150 D-Box. I'm trying to install it top mounted on a Bonehead Optik, but not sure its going to work. Does anyone have any suggestions?
  9. I'm going to be entering the Two Way - Spectator Comp !!! Lots of World Class Teams competing. It will be exciting to watch.
  10. Hell YES.......I have several friends that were on that Record. Including the Camera Man. I'm sooooooooooooo Proud of all my friends. Jen, Angela, Penny, Nancy, LW (aka L-Dub). HELL YESSSSS.
  11. x5 on the Tunnel recomendation.
  12. What about him? I'm organizing the jump. If you can fly it it will happen. I know Nancy, the rest I dont. we will have to do warm up jumps to figure out who will be on and who wont. I don't like zoo dives! if i dont feel you can be on it you wont be on. bring your costume and bring it on freefliers!

    Fast sitfly

Wear tighter suits, with little to no extra fabric on the arms and legs. I see a lot of skinny fliers wearing much baggier suites than then should. Its a real easy fix. Flip the suit inside out and run light stitching down the arms and legs. When its adjusted right sew the measurments in more permanantly. Also make sure your suits are constructed from low drag materials........IE avoid PolyCotton or Cordora material.
  14. Yeah Confirmation is my concern. I'm a family man now.......So traveling that far and on Halloween weekend means that It's gotta be a sure thing. Hoping the warm ups will be on Friday, and the record attempts Saturday. I would have to leave by 11am Sunday, to get back to Raleigh in time for Trick or Treating. I wasn't kidding about the Dad stuff.
  15. What about Ben Griswald at the Farm? You can count me in if the Event is for SURE, the dates are FIRM, and those folks are committed to attending. I think if you have a decent orgainizer lined up I could talk folks into coming down from NC. Jen Shaben, Joe Abelin, Reese Pendleton, Nancy Koreen, Ivan Catillion, and maybe a couple Tunnel Rats. Not all those folks I'm sure but atleast a few would commit.
  16. I'd travel for it, If I knew it were going to be organized well. We did the VA, NC, and SC records this year, but the ONLY thing that made them successful were SOLID organizers. So Yeah I can think of several folks from NC who would travel to support a Georgia Record, if you had a good organizer lined up.
  17. And the 2010 World Champs too...
  18. why not pay a tunnel instructor to train you via the AFF syllabis? Nothing says you can't learn AFF in the tunnel first and then in the sky. Its not uncommon for AFF students to fail a level and have to re-pay for that jump a 2nd or 3rd time until you pass. That can get pretty expensive. Thats where the tunnel is such a great tool. you can fly 5 minutes straight until you master a skill. In the sky you only have 40-60 seconds per jump to perform and pass that level.
  19. Why Thank You Simon . I should feel uncomfortable, but I don't.
  20. These are just what I look for in a RIG. I've personally seen two very nasty premature deployments due to Large D-Ring handles. One high speed deployment at 170+ mph, that knocked the victim out cold for almost the entire Reserve canopy decent. I thought I was watching a dead friend under his reserve. Luckily his Reserve didn't shread or break multiple lines, since he was completely unconscious for about 5 minutes. The second D-Handle premie happened when chunking a big way exit out of an Otter that was very close to becoming a Tail Strike. If you insist on a D-Handle, please pick the low profile ones. I have a pocket on my Pillow Handles, that allow me to insert my thumb / fingers. Almost like a D-Handle but not quite as easy. Some Rigs don't need Secondary Riser Covers because the fabic along side the Pack Tray is wide enough and the riser channels deep enough to secure the risers and toggles completely. But Secondary Riser Covers on most rigs are always a good thing. I too have seen several ocassions where unstowed toggles were flapping around. Nasty openings and cut aways were the results.
  21. Perfect Explanation.......Tunnels make it so that the only stress that is left for AFF Training is dealing with the very normal response of Fear itself. Not performance anxiety.
