The flat pack on tandems will give you less of a chance for a lineover because you better control the lines. Specifically, when you lay a tandem main down, the D lines fall to the outside of the pack. With smaller canopies it becomes less of an issue because the lines are shorter (distance from slider stop to canopy attachment) and the canopy is smaller so it is easier to control on sport mains. So for those who pro pack tandems, you should be taking steps to put those lines back into the center of the canopy before S-folding. RWS has always recommended a flat pack for a more reliable (less malfunctions) opening. Does that make sense. It is easier to show than explain. Thank you for your interest. Upon careful consideration, we have chosen another applicant for the position. In the future, I recommend you being more critical with your priorities and requests. We pro pack, but we take steps to put the lines back in the middle after laying the tandem down. We don't do as many tandems as you guys, but we have only had one mal and flat or pro would not have made a difference. It was a walk through the was created when the bag was placed into the container. If you pro pack, you really need to take that step and put the lines back to the center. I was told a statistic (don't know the accuracy) that if you don't take that step, you should plan on a 1 in 200 line over malfunction. I am not totally useless, I can be used as a bad example.

The instructors who pack their own tandems should appreciate that there is more pay that packing a sport rig. On the other hand, I think he was commenting more about a variance in tandem packs. He was saying sport are consistent $5 and tandems prices aren't always $10. The places I have jumped, they have all been $10. Todd I am not totally useless, I can be used as a bad example.

I agree mostly with you, but definitely not with this part: You should be proactive not reactive. This, as you mentioned, starts on the ground. In the air you shoud be looking for and identifying things that may become a problem (ie a week exit position). You should also force the pair into the relative wind if need as mentioned in this thread rather than waiting for it to take you somewhere.
