  1. here's a nice article that doesn't seem biased, just a listing of the facts, names, vote numbers, etc: http://news.yahoo.com/heres-exactly-blame-congress-authorizing-government-spying-164654883.html So people can lay blame where it belongs. 2. I 100% agree about the respect issue. If someone is constantly late for appointments with me, I get the impression that they just don't care about anything but themselves and THEIR time. I chose the first option. 0 minutes. Of course, I was in the military, and 5 minutes early is "on time" in my head. 3. All these kids on here, no appreciation for the classics ;) Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  4. you have completely ruined my day.... I'm averaging around 12k points per game, unless I make a huge mistake. my gut is usually dead on with the general location, specifics are a bit tougher. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  5. Compared to the other political forum I frequent (also an adjunct to a forum for a different hobby), the posts and threads in here, in general, are inane, trite, and so far below the standards of that other forum that I find it hard to believe the education levels of many of the people who post here. It is a bit disheartening to think that poker players, as a niche group, are more educated, articulate, open-minded, and fair than skydivers. We here have many diverse occupations, education levels, socio-economic statuses, and opinions. They do as well, but seem much more willing to engage in true debate with substance than we are here. I am going to have to vote for the latter. I rarely post anymore, mainly because my posts, which I put effort and thought into, seem to either go unread or have one line be taken out of context. Both of which are rude and poor form for "debate". Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!

  7. HA! Nirvana #5. LOL, i am not alone. Seems there are a lot of closet Nirvana haters out there who may be afraid to come into the light because Nirvana is supposed to be this god among bands. I guess i'm not big on any of the bands on that list, either. Sorry Remi. No Rush for me. And as for Hendrix, he sang with his guitar, imho. 8. Like 'em all, esp. since Nirvana was a local band. Dave Grohl still does a great job with the Foo Fighters. Chatted with Krist Noveselic the other day as he flew his Cessna thru my sector. But to each their own. . .
  9. A popular band that I generally can't stand is Rush. I just really don't like them. I also HATE Nirvana and Bruce Springsteen. Immediate channel switch if they come on the sirius xm... Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  10. I admit, this is what I first thought of when I read the thread title. here: http://www.snopes.com/quotes/internet.asp Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  11. damn, i KNEW I should have translated my post for the sarcasm-deficient in the audience. I'm saying they spend money and resources on them, yes. as for these two, at what point in this entire saga, from pre-bombing to eventual capture, EVER indicated that they had any backing other than what they could scrounge together on their own? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. They had to hijack a car and demand the driver withdraw money from an ATM. oh yes, terrorist masterminds, these guys. I'm saying that if I had to pick between them being trained jihadists backed by a powerful organization and them being a couple of lone wolf lunatics who decided they'd be "heroes" to their homeland, i'm gonna go with door number 2 every time. 12. I'll take some of your drugs for sure. The older brother was out of the country for 6 months last year. You're deluded if you believe this is not part of jihad... Yes, it's so apparent they were backed by a very rich and powerful terrorist group who planned and funded their well-coordinated escape from the city, provided them with sophisticated weapons and equipment, and gave them plenty of money and vehicles with which to make their getaway. Oh wait.... Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  13. Are the majority of people really scratching their heads about why they did this? Obviously, it's an assumption, but I doubt the reason is psychoactive drugs or because he did not make it onto the school track team. I think it's more the question of JIHAD!!! vs. "herp derp 2 idiots on a rampage who happen to be muslim" Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  14. Maybe you haven't heard about what the Russians did to the Chechen civilians. It was a horror show. http://www.christusrex.org/www1/icons/russ-atrocities.html What the Russians did in Chechnya was nothing short of genocide. Treat people as inhuman and that is what they will become. Agreed. Looking at the whole history, and not just cherry-picking what the Russians allow to be reported, it seems like finger-pointing more at one than the other is quite unfair. The parlance is also unfair. Governments and their military (who have far more access to and control of news reporting) are always about "security campaigns" and "law and order"; while armed civilians fighting the government are always "terrorists" (or, before, WWII, "anarchists). We shouldn't be so quick to jump on the Chechen-bashing bandwagon without looking at the other side, too. I think this is an apropos link right about now: http://www.theonion.com/articles/study-majority-of-americans-not-informed-enough-to,32124/ Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  15. I think I read they were going to do a controlled demo of the suspects' house. Seems odd...wouldn't there be evidence in there they'd want to go through? Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  16. press conference occurring now on local news, they confirmed that suspect 1 (black hat dude) was shot during the vehicle chase and was apprehended, but they didn't say he was dead. Suspect 2 (white hat dude) is still at large, tactical teams are searching a neighborhood in Watertown, Mass, Telling folks to stay in their homes and cars, call 911 if they see anything/anyone that isn't a cop. Police kind of dodged the question when asked if suspect 1 was dead or not Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!

  18. yes yes, fat fingers. sounds like it's moving away from her, though not sure i like the "explosives everywhere" stuff! Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  19. oh god, this is going on maybe a mile from where my sister lives in Somerville. it's 2 am there, not sure whether to call her or just wait until tomorrow. crazy stuff. So many conflicting reports... Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  20. I love the comment at the bottom of that article: "Cowards, meet Karma." pretty much sums it up Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  21. OK, NOW is the time for RobertMBlevins and his reddit/4chan friends to go to town on IDing these dudes. Before, it was Richard Jewell all over again. Now? they might actually help. Over under on how long it takes to ID them? I set my line at 32 hours. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  22. My sister lives in Boston, and her roommate was running. They are both OK, thankfully. For all the speculation about foreign groups, honestly, it would make total sense if it was domestic. Not sure if we have any Mass. residents here, but yesterday was Patriot's day, which is a Mass. state holiday, and many schools and businesses in the state have the day off. Basically, Patriot's day is Boston's biggest party, celebrated to commemorate the battles of Lexington and Concord (the opening battles of the Revolutionary War, for those who aren't up on their history). The actual battles occurred on April 19, 1775, but like many other holidays, moving the commemoration day to the 3rd Monday in April was logistically easier. Oh, another reason I lean toward this being domestic...April 19th was also the date of Waco and the OK city bombing. Patriot's day, the start of the Revolutionary War, etc, Some whack job guy or group gets in their head that causing maximum terror on Boston's BEST day would be somehow symbolic. Just makes more sense to me than AQ or Loyalists. My friend from Boston posted this on his Facebook just a few hours before it all happened, and it still makes me cry: That happiness and joy is what this bomber took from Boston http://www.csnne.com/article/tragedy-bostons-biggest-holiday Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!

    Music....

I tend to gravitate toward music that makes me feel uplifted and happy...and for me that's been electronic dance music (for the past 10 years or so). Anything by BT is a perennial favorite of mine, because i think he's brilliant and never fails to push musical and creative boundaries. something trance-y, his most recent: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ibGQyM96BeQ to switch it up, more mood, watch the video all the way, if you aren't crying, you have no heart: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HuNaL74B5k4 and my favorite, absolute favorite song that i can listen to over and over: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sbj5i3E6ugo I love the harder-hitting stuff too, like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7plpaPaitl8 and yes, i like dubstep. and Progressive house, and electro. so many to look for clips, but Skrillex, Avicii, Hardwell, Deadmau5, Afrojack, Daft Punk (god, the tron legacy soundrack was the best thing about that movie), even getting into the more hip/hop side of things like Freestylers, Gorillaz, etc. the funniest part about it is...i hate clubbing. Just love the way the music makes me feel Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  24. you may check SPEED channel, sometimes they have the big 2-wheel races live. it may be tape delayed though. unfortunately, most americans seem to dislike anything where the racers turn both directions... edited to add: hey how about this! hehe http://www.motogp.com/en/splash/live_video?from=http://www.motogp.com/ Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
  25. the first two seasons were pretty close, but I've heard the next season is going to diverge a bit...however, that's not necessarily bad. The books are not really "linear" in the sense that there is a lot going on in a lot of different places at the same time. They are honestly some of the best-written books out there now, hands down, even if you aren't normally a fantasy fan. Read them. seriously. you will NOT be disappointed. Surprised, shocked, amused, hurt, angry, happy, perhaps, but not disappointed. Never meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup!
