  1. That expression always cracks me up... Burn the land and boil the sea, You can't take the sky from me.
  2. I just brewed up my first ever batch of homebrew. It's a porter, but turned out darker than I was expecting. I'm calling it "Blue Skies Black Porter" since it's so dark..."Used Motor Oil" and "Lump of Coal" were already taken. Burn the land and boil the sea, You can't take the sky from me.
  3. 79 1 (jump 13) toggle tied in place Burn the land and boil the sea, You can't take the sky from me.
  4. I am recovering from surgery to address these same problems. Primarily, I had a bone spur on C5 that was deforming my spinal cord, but I also had stenosis, disc problems, etc. I was told that I was one whiplash away from potentially being paralyzed. The docs removed C5 and most of C6. They then implanted a PEAK cage at C6, a titanium plate in front, and two titanium rods in back. Recovery has been faster and better than expected. However, I don't know yet if I'll be able to jump again. Surgery was on 09 Oct, and I probably won't know about jumping again for a year or so. My plan is to start seeing more sports minded specialists next summer to get their opinion. My neurosurgeon is awesome, but doesn't like the idea of me jumping again. My neurosurgeon and chiro both believe that the problems were not caused by skydiving, as they probably started forming 15-20 years ago. But, both believe that skydiving certainly didn't help either! I got two opinions, and both were to get the surgery, sooner rather than later. Whatever you're told, do your research. There were no alternative treatments for me, other than to not have surgery and basically stop enjoying the things I like to do, which wasn't a valid option. It's working for me... Burn the land and boil the sea, You can't take the sky from me.
  6. I'm heading for surgery next week for a two level cervical fusion + titanium plate. As much as I'd love to jump again, I don't know if I will...time will tell. Facing surgery brought things in to perspective for me: I don't heal quickly, I get injured easier, and I'm not the bulletproof 25 year old I once thought I was. The injury wasn't caused by skydiving, but a hard opening (sloppy pack job on my part to make a load) alerted me to the damage already done over the last 20 years or so, and certainly didn't help either. My goal is to be current by the Eloy Holiday Boogie 2010, but at this point, I realize I may have made my last jump. Being paralyzed really doesn't appeal to me very much. 7. 2008 WeeStrom, slightly modded. Lots of power and comfortable too. Burn the land and boil the sea, You can't take the sky from me.
  8. I'm joining the club on 9 October with an Anterior Cervical Discetomy and Fusion on C4-C6. I've got arthritis, stenosis, lots o'crap with my disks, and bone spurs that are deforming my spinal cord. I won't be jumping again till late in 2010. Burn the land and boil the sea, You can't take the sky from me.
  9. Gettysburg. Just walk around the battlefield and you'll swear you hear and see things. Check out the Farnsworth House in town, or the Cashtown Inn outside of town. There's also a B&B w/in the park that served as a hospital during the battle, and supposedly has a lot of interesting things going on. Burn the land and boil the sea, You can't take the sky from me.
  10. The door was open... Burn the land and boil the sea, You can't take the sky from me.
  11. Buy what new or used? Personally, I bought everything used except my fourth jumpsuit and ProTrack, and most of the used stuff I bought, I found on the classifieds here. Buy used and spend your money on jumps, at least for now.. Burn the land and boil the sea, You can't take the sky from me.
  12. Repeating a level is not a failure as long as you learn something from the jump. Relax! Have fun! Breathe! Good luck to both of you... Burn the land and boil the sea, You can't take the sky from me.
  13. I had a hard opening three jumps ago, and after the x-rays/MRI, the neurosurgeon recommends surgery: hardware and bone fusing. I'd like to get a second opinion. Can anyone recommend a good neurosurgeon in Denver, preferably one who is familiar with skydiving? I haven't been the most active jumper at the DZ, but I truly love the sport and want to find a way to fix my neck and still be able to jump. A Kaiser Permanente doctor would be a plus, but I'll take any suggestions. Cheers! Burn the land and boil the sea, You can't take the sky from me.
  14. V-Strom. Just a nice all around bike. It's based on the SV650, but has a little more ground clearance, and different gearing to make it more of a sport touring bike. Still sporty enough (for me at least) to have fun in the twisties. Plenty of power, even out here in Colorado. I wish Colorado had a longer riding season... 15. This setup has worked for me. I don't particularly like the bungees, but once it's cinched down, it doesn't move at all. I carry a waterproof bag for my rig in one of the boxes in case it rains. Burn the land and boil the sea, You can't take the sky from me.
  16. Road trip! When I was helmet shopping, I asked a bunch of people at the DZ if I could try on their helmets, just to get an idea of which I liked, and what size fit me. Plus, I was able to introduce my newbie self to some of the other jumpers. I bought a used Mamba locally that I love. It fits my melon nicely with or without sunglasses. 17. I'll stick to my paper log book, thanks. To me, logbooks are more than just a sterile record of my jumps. I put in all sorts of details about the jump, who was on the load, anything else that's interesting to me. Plus, getting signatures is a great way to meet other jumpers who may want to jump with a newb like me another day. Burn the land and boil the sea, You can't take the sky from me.
  18. Man I wish I could get to Florida to go to this... Burn the land and boil the sea, You can't take the sky from me.
  19. I just got back from Eloy last week. Had my rig in a gear bag with the TSA docs and Cypres card, the rest was checked. Both Denver and PHX TSA swabbed it, but otherwise, no problems carrying it on either flight. Burn the land and boil the sea, You can't take the sky from me.
  20. Nice meeting you at Eloy, Keith! Sorry that four way didn't work out as planned... Burn the land and boil the sea, You can't take the sky from me.
  21. OK, this is a long shot, I know. My grandfather did some jumps and barnstorming back in the 1920's and 30's. His name was Clarence T. Willis. I don't know much of his history, and he passed away in 1985, so I can't ask him now. The story I was told long ago, is that he did a parachute jump to open up Capital City Airport (KCYX) in New Cumberland, PA somewhere around 1934. And I remember as a kid seeing a picture of him standing in front of an aircraft wearing a rig. I have his leather flight helmet, but nothing else aviation related. If anyone has heard of him, or knows some of his stories, I'd love to hear them. I'm trying to find his kids to see what they know, or if they have pictures. Unfortunately, my grandmother passed away earlier this year, so I can't ask her either. Burn the land and boil the sea, You can't take the sky from me.
  22. This just arrived yesterday...my two piece VerticalSuits. I was lucky enough to get measured by Vlady himself in between his tunnel sessions at SVCO. I'm really happy with the way it turned out, but not so much with the extra wing loading I gained between getting measured and when the suit was made! Vlady makes a really nice suit... 23. Snow + clouds + cold = no jumps. But only eleven more sleeps till Eloy! Gnarly bruise, Fozz... Burn the land and boil the sea, You can't take the sky from me.
  24. Interesting to see him bump the props horizontal to save the crankshafts...nice job. Burn the land and boil the sea, You can't take the sky from me.
  25. I see it now...have to remember to scroll down! Burn the land and boil the sea, You can't take the sky from me.
