  1. Each jump with it is better than the last. I had a nice opening yesterday, and the initial standup landing with my rig. I'm a happy camper! Burn the land and boil the sea, You can't take the sky from me.
  2. Bought this (lightly) used rig off of DZ.com. It's an I6 with a Pilot210, Smart Reserve, and Cypres2. I love it! Burn the land and boil the sea, You can't take the sky from me.
  3. 0:1:1+ One jump, but it was first one on my own packjob, and the first standup landing on my rig. Way cool! Burn the land and boil the sea, You can't take the sky from me.
  4. Makes sense. Plus, I think it would be easier to ID who did the repack than trying to decipher the writing. Burn the land and boil the sea, You can't take the sky from me.
  5. Rob, Can you explain this one? My reserve card has both hand written entries and stamps... Thanks! Burn the land and boil the sea, You can't take the sky from me.
  6. I'm still pitching at 5000 or so. I need the canopy time! Burn the land and boil the sea, You can't take the sky from me.
  7. A few years ago, I was trying to find a new domain name. I was listening to System of a Down, and in the song Chic 'n' Stu, they have a line: "pepperoni and green peppers mushrooms olives chives". I heard it as "pepperoni angry peppers mushrooms..." and angrypeppers.com was born. I don't do much with the site, but I like the name. Burn the land and boil the sea, You can't take the sky from me.
  8. Good point. I learned that you don't stop flying the canopy till it's laying on the ground. Actually, I didn't learn that this jump, but my landing emphasized how true that is. I didn't flare fully, popped up a bit, and rather than correcting, I quit flying and braced for impact. Luckily, I didn't get hurt, but I'll remember that landing! Burn the land and boil the sea, You can't take the sky from me.
  9. Ditto on the Icon. Bought a nice rig through the ads here on DZ.com. Edit: Forgot to mention I have an Icon Burn the land and boil the sea, You can't take the sky from me.
  10. Ayuh. Not my best work. I even got grass stains on my shirt. Burn the land and boil the sea, You can't take the sky from me.
  11. Jumped my rig again today, and what a difference! I wouldn't say it's buttery soft yet, but it was a much better opening than the twisty one last week. I had one of the packers pull out the main and repack it w/out rolling the nose. My body position was spot on, so I'm sure that helped too. Except for my (somewhat) controlled crash / landing, it was a great jump for me. Thanks for the help, everyone! Burn the land and boil the sea, You can't take the sky from me.
  12. I PM'd my info to Bushman, and here's his response: Hi Chris, Probably should post this on the forum too, but I'll let you decide if you do that or not..... but people will definitely learn from this feedback. 1) Exit weight at 220, means you should probably have dacron line. Most people don't order it due to increased pack volume related issues. Field elevation being 5000 feet, and you opening at 5000 feet AGL, increases opening shocks as you are now opening at 10000 feet MSL. (ask any military jumper that does haho how extreme the openings are at altitude) Thinner air, higher fall rate! Higher fall rate, higher opening shocks. Less forgiving of any packing related issues. The rest of the information re the pilot chute you'll have to get back to me on. Hope this gives you some explanations and answers to the possible problems you are experiencing. (again I encourage you to post this in the forum) Kind regards and best wishes Bushman ============================== I still need to check on the pilot chute, but that will have to wait till the weekend. I really need to learn how to pack, and then pack carefully! I've read enough reviews on the Pilot to know that this one particular opening is most likely not what I should expect most times, even at our altitude here in Colorado. Slammers happen, but I am convinced that this was due to a pack problem, or bad body position, or both. I appreciate the responses and advice from everyone, and it's extra nice that the Pres. of Aerodyne took some time to check this out for me. Thanks to everyone! Chris Burn the land and boil the sea, You can't take the sky from me.
  13. I'm not worried either. I'm still new, and the rig is new to me, so I'm on a big learning curve. I think any rig can throw a bad opening your way any time. But, I wouldn't mind if it opened properly on my second jump with it! Burn the land and boil the sea, You can't take the sky from me.
  14. I'd like to see that video! Burn the land and boil the sea, You can't take the sky from me.
  15. Not a video, but these pictures might help: Clicky Burn the land and boil the sea, You can't take the sky from me.
  16. Well, this was the first jump after the pre-purchase inspection, the comment on the sheet was "everything like new", so I don't suspect any problems with the lines or canopy. I am starting to think that it was a combination of my body position, and a pack job that went bad. Hopefully, future openings will be like buttah. According to the Aerodyne site, and from talking to them, a Pilot210 will fit the I6, but it will be tight. The container size chart shows a 175/190 will fit an I6 but the max pack volume (465 cu. in) is the same as what's shown for the Pilot210. I'll at least have someone re-pack it, just to make sure it's packed correctly before I jump it again. I like the idea of someone else jumping it too. I'm going to try to get a packing class scheduled, too! Burn the land and boil the sea, You can't take the sky from me.
  17. I've done some searching here, and lots of people seem to like psycho packing the Pilot! Good advice indeed! And I did tell the packer to roll the nose a bit for just that reason. My own fault for not reading the manual more closely. I think the left leg strap was a little loose in fact. When I was under canopy, it slipped down my thigh a little. Hadn't thought about that till now... Yeah, I know...I need to learn to pack! I was actually waiting till the rig was mine, which it now is. Nope, I'm not sure at all. I *thought* it was though! I'm sure I did tense up a bit. No, I don't know for sure. I'll keep an eye on that next time! Sounds like it's worth trying! So, I'm think I'll open it up, and have someone else pack it this weekend. No nose rolls this time, and I'll make sure to keep an eye on the slider. I'm going to schedule a packing class, so I can pack it myself too. I need it for my A, so I may as well get going now. I like what I've read about psycho packing, so I'll probably try that too, once I know what I'm doing. The opening was a good reminder that I'll need to be careful of body position, and also, the pack job. Thanks for the comments everyone! Burn the land and boil the sea, You can't take the sky from me.
  18. Yesterday I jumped my rig for the first time, and had my worst opening yet. I have a Pilot 210 in an Icon I6. I pitched at 5000, and it opened up right away, threw me sideways, and I got about four or five line twists...not what I was expecting at all! I'm pretty sure my body position was OK, as I was a little nervous about jumping my own stuff for the first time, and tried to make sure that I was very stable at pull time. When the canopy opened, it seemed to open all at once, then dove to the right a bit while it twisted up. No snivel at all, just pitch, WHAM! TWIST! and I was on the risers. I lost maybe 600-700 feet total from when I pitched till I was kicking out the twists. It settled down, and I was way above my hard deck, so I stayed with it. I did briefly think that I may have to chop, but luckily, it didn't come to that. After I got the twists out, it flew fine...no further problems. I watched the packer pack the canopy, and he had a tough time getting it in the d-bag. It's a new'ish canopy (100 jumps or so). Since I'm a newb, I'm not packing it myself yet, so I'm looking for opinions on what may have caused the bad opening (assuming it wasn't my body position - I'll check that next jump). The canopy was pro packed, and he rolled the nose a bit. From the chart on the Aerodyne site, my canopy is at the top of the range for the container, so I'm sure that doesn't help much. A different packer packed it after my jump, and he had trouble with the d-bag too. I'll probably pull it apart and let someone check it out before I jump it again. 19. 0:2: Recurrency jump on Saturday...sat in the door, front flip out, then played follow the leader. Only got to 9500 due to the clouds. Beer for the first jump on my own rig yesterday, beer for my first line twists, beer for the first jump with my friend Kendra. A great weekend! 20. Don't forget that a six pack is two rows of three beers...three beers next to three beers: 33 Burn the land and boil the sea, You can't take the sky from me.
  21. Our mechanics used to call it "shaft bow". We'd have to spin the props on the Dorniers and Metros after the engines shut down...maybe twenty blades or so. If I remember correctly, the prop shaft would get so hot that they could bend in the space between the bearings that supported them. A&P's feel free to correct me! 23. They usually have a bunch of stock rigs available, if you aren't too picky about colors, etc. Might be quicker to get one of them. I called Mark and he was able to send me a list of what's on the shelf... Burn the land and boil the sea, You can't take the sky from me.
  24. Two ideas: 1. My credit union offers signature loans for pretty much anything. They were willing to finance my gear. 2. My DZ (Mile Hi in Longmont, CO) offers financing for gear...maybe one that you visit does too? Chris Burn the land and boil the sea, You can't take the sky from me.
  25. Try hitting Ctrl + PrtSc, paste (Ctrl + v) the pic in a graphics viewer like MS Paint, or IrfanView, then save it as a jpg. Works on my laptop... Chris Burn the land and boil the sea, You can't take the sky from me.
