  1. Hey every one. I am starting to get into fun RW, and I am going to be competing in amateur two way in the collegiate nationals down in lake whales this winter. I am wondering what is a good base speed for relative work. I am a pretty stout in relation to my height, so I tend to fall fast in tight suits. I weight around 175, but I am only 5'6. Is there a good speed to be falling at neutral, so you can have a range, both slower and faster through body control? "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  2. Some DZ's you can still leave your stuff lying around, although if there are a lot of tandem students I am less likely to do so. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  3. My braked approach for my A license card was from half brakes. I didn't let up for the flare because I didn't want the surge, and I still had enough left for a decent landing. I guess it was more of an accuracy landing according to the above description? "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  4. My DZ has a scale, with "Lie Detector" written on it in black sharpie marker. They have a 225 weight limit, and they don't charge a fat tax if they decide the conditions are ok for a couple of pounds over their normal limit. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  5. I don't own a micron, but I don't feel the hip rings on my icon ever. Unless your going sans clothing I think this would be true for all rigs with hip rings. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  6. You might as well have asked if we like Chevy trucks or Fords. My clubs gear have Vigils, they haven't popped unexpectedly on me, I haven't used them either. My rig has a Cypres II because that is what it came with. I don't use any of the extra features on the Vigil, ever. My Cypres makes marginally less concerned about it going off when it shouldn't (IE having it pop without reaching its activation parameters). I don't expect either of them to save me, and if I ever have one go off and I am not unconscious, or unable to pull, I am going to have my friends kick my ass. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  7. I wouldn't leave any sheep alone with your skydiving friends, if that is what you are getting at. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  8. Sunrise early bird, or a sunset hop and pop!!! "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  9. I don't trust them from the start any more than the next Joe on the street. I have found that you build trust and friendship at an exponential rate, compared to what you experince when your plugged back into the matrix. But it isn't there automatically because you have a rig strapped on your back. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  10. I have one already, jumped in 5 times now. Maybe we should move the audibles for newbies discussion into a new thread? "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  11. Thank you, that was a very well written, and appreciated response. I will take what you said to heart, and I will try and resist using my audible and other gadgets for a while. It is refreshing to read a post that actually has some really good advice in it, instead a one line warning, or comment about jump numbers. It makes it easier to be receptive, and that is ultimately why I am here for, to learn and get advice. I haven't needed any gadgets besides my altimeter in my past 50 jumps, so I will see if I can hold off on my gadget obsession for 50 more. 12. Yes, because that is what I have been saying all along. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  13. I orginally bought into the whole "it is safer than driving in your car". I feel bad for echoing this to my relatives and others at first. Now when I am asked if it is dangerous I say sure it is, your falling at the earth at 120 mph. It is calculated risk, and you can make it safer, but there is definetly the chance you can die. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  14. Perhaps, you should work on the reading comp, just as much as I should work on my accuracy trick. All kidding aside, I already practice using the accuracy trick. I said so in my post explicity. I never said I was going to replace one for the other. I already use it now on ever jump, and especially on every long spot. And I definetly wouldn't stop if I managed to figure the gps out. You use your altimeter to back up what your eyes are seeing right? I just want to have a toy that can confirm what my eyes are seeing on a long spot. Toy, not a tool. Now if my post was, I want to use my GPS to know if I will make it back, then I will agree with your comments. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  15. I think about bouncing usually once on the way up to altitude, but my imagination is usually pretty morbid. After the thought passes I do one last EP practice. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  16. I am sure you already know, but BH also makes a carbon fiber one. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  17. I don't need an altimeter, or an audible, but they don't hurt either. Sorry I just find this to be a silly and slightly close minded comment. I don't need a lot of the things I have, and I don't rely on them either. I own a legend gps, and if it has this feature I think it would be cool to check out on cross countries, and deliberate long spots. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  18. I was allways taught to turn hard right. I have my hands on my rear risers during deployment for that very reason. I don't want to be screwing with toggles if I need to move fast, I am going to go risers to save precious time. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  19. You can arch in the tunnel. You arch harder you go down, you de arch you shoot up. I have only done 15 minutes but I didn't notice a problem with being unable to arch. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  20. Back to the top please. Does any one know any more about this feature of the the Garmin Legend? I have been doing some clear and pulls deliberately from long spots and it sounds like a cool feature, and something to glance at while I am in deep deep brakes. It would also be cool to confirm what my eyes are seeing via the sight accuracy technique. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  21. I will gladly pay for my slot, my coaches, and a tip or some beer for thanks. But I think some of the dollar amounts that some places are charging for coach jumps are just extortion. Where do you draw the line between providing a service, and squeezing extra money out of your just off AFF students? This was a great post btw. There is nothing that I would rather do more than sit down and listen to the old timers in the sport!!! "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  22. Yes the OPTIMA lcd pannels. I like those, but I was thinking a step beyond something that just flashes or changes color, to something that actually provides the given altitude in real time. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  23. So has any one thought of a heads up display for skydiving. I thought it would be a cool product if you could get a display that could provide a read out from an instrument, say a altimiter, or a GPS, on the inside of a full face helmet (or a see through eye piece). It definetly isn't KISS (keep it simple stupid) but I bet it would be awesome for deaf sky divers, or wingsuit dives. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  24. I kinda like the noise, ever since I started skydiving I haven't had to listen to my SO as much. Whaaaaaaaaaaaaat??? What did you say honey, I can't hear you. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
  25. 5'10 250 You are going to fall like a brick lol. I thought I was a fast faller at 5'6 180. I hope you find some place that you can jump! "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
