linenbored: What he said. My Sabre 150 used to whack me every once in a while (bruised rib) but the pocket slider makes it open almost as well as my Diablo 150. Good canopy w/ the pocket slider. I quarter the slider and roll the 3 end cells over once. Red, White and Blue Skies, John T. Brasher D-5166

Another option might be an oversize slider. I had a Sabre which would occasionally slap me hard and this has made it a wonderfully soft opening canopy. PS. My experience with Falcons was that they seemed to open a little harder than others. Red, White and Blue Skies, John T. Brasher D-5166

A friend of mine just recently found that his Cypres control unit was broken. The little window was cracked like a broken windshield. The Cypress my have worked but with no read outs he was unable to determine that. No he didn't jump it. Here's my question: Has anyone else seen damage like or similar to this? If so how much/how long to repair it? Red, White and Blue Skies, John T. Brasher D-5166

The way I heard it was the Russians did just before WWII when they invaded Finland. The Fins started painting the rocks white and the Russians stopped it. Red, White and Blue Skies, John T. Brasher D-5166

What things have landed (crashed) near you?
jbrasher replied to vonSanta's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
During the recent big ways at Perris I was center diver in an Otter in the base of a 30 way and as I left someone stepped on the edge of my right shoe and it peeled off. During the dive my 'new' googles started floating (I hadn't tightened them enough). We came close to completing and I landed on 1 foot and hobbled back in dropped my gear and was going to dig out the pair of CRW shoes I keep in the trunk when the loader of the Otter walked up with my shoe. It stayed in the door as close to 20 people stampeded over it and the pilot dove for the ground and was sitting there waiting. Everything got better fomr then on Red, White and Blue Skies, John T. Here's thought Rob. What if the student doesn't let go of the bungee equiped RC has an unstable exit while the main deploys and things get exciting ? Red, White and Blue Skies, John T. Brasher D-5166 -
Midget Skydiver's....Do they exist?
jbrasher replied to Jackajeffries's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
He also jumped at Perris but succumbed to effects to the then prevent drug culture He had originally done 100-200 jumps in Arizona in the 60's and came back and did the TV show jump and decided to get current. I think he probably didn't do more than a 100 more jumps or there abouts. Red, White and Blue Skies, John T. Brasher D-5166 -
Midget Skydiver's....Do they exist?
jbrasher replied to Jackajeffries's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
She originally started at Hemet and then moved to Perris and with her custom rig (you have to remember the size of equipment was bigger then) and completed AFF and went on to do a couple of hundred jumps or more. Last time I saw her (3 or more years ago?) she was completing her education (there's more money with a good job). Everyone liked her, I hope she'll come back some day. Me too. BUT I've always only had sight in one eye and that is the issue. There shouldn't be any problem once you've become accustomed to not having vision in that eye BUT be careful during the transition. Red, White and Blue Skies, John T. Brasher D-5166

I to took 48 jumps to be cleared off student status, but the only way they did it (self-defense?) was to get the biggest heaviest JM on the DZ to do a harness hold. It blew my mind to freefall that long (30 seconds). Then they let me go and do 20 ro 30 flat spin jumps until I finally figured out what RELAX really meant. 30+ years later I'm still having fun scaring people

many years ago (mid-late 70's) I was JMing S/L students and we used quick ejector type hardware on the leg straps. We had a student who had a leg strap come undone on opening (after he'd gone into his pants for a cigarette after the last equipment check). Scared the hell out of him. A few weeks ago my wife and I flew to Nortern California (no rig). I waltzed thru security (metal pins and all) but she was frisked and wanded and made to roll her waist band down and take off her shoes (sandals, mine where Nike's but didn't have to come off) and they conficated her finger nail nippers (really small siccors, really small, like a small wire cutter). They also checked her homeopathic medicine very completely which couldn't be x-rayed; small eyedropper kind of bottles. I feel safer now
