  2. almost said byebye to my breakfast... actually, to yesterdays dinner too "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."

    Telescopes....

depends if you plan to look for stars in the sky or stars in a window down the street... "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."
  4. i think i'll trust my instinct and (if collision cant be avoided), protect my important body parts and maybe hold my cutaway handle in case a quick chop is in order. since i'm on a sabre2 170, and most of the big student/tandem canopies are (usually) much higher i'd go with that option... 5. try to think of a DZ as any other business. they can close for the same reason -lack of demand. -competition -poor business decisions -safety issues -problems with the authorities (licenses) and so on... not saying that DZO are in it just for the money, but after all, it is their business. O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."
  6. is that safe with today's lines and canopy speed? nylon at high speed can result in you through the canopy but a few fingers left behind... "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."
  7. not sure it belongs here (a hook knife on board wouldn't have mattered) but here are a few more details: -the 757 wasn't hit (talk about luck) but they've felt it. -after checking that everything is working, the flight continued to its original destination and landed safely. -in the hotel blast there were about 15 dead and 80 wounded. -al-queda ? still under investigation but it wouldn't surprise anyone if they've had something to do with it. O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."
  8. there are many threads here about that. but basically... shouldn't be any problem with the rig itself, but you'd want to put the hook knife in the bag you check in and not in your carry on. i'd take the rig onboard, and put everything else (knife, helmet, alti...) in my suitcase O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."
  9. hmm, if only feeling like i've just jumped was easy (and much cheaper...) "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."
  10. some scientists say its in our genes... i'm sure many groups say it, but can you imagine what would it look like if skydivers ruled the world... (a plane for every worker...) "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."
  11. can you jump a rig that was stored for a long time without having your reserve repacked ?? or am i missing something here? "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."
  12. keep them tight or get ready for a really big badaboom... "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."
  13. it was more of a theoretical question. i still spin a little bit, but its a slow spin (hopefully i'll get over it in the next few jumps since i'm pretty sure what's the cause) and yes, i jump alone, wont go up with others until i'm completely stable for a few jumps (and after a coached jump or two,,, $$) O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."
  14. "if you get unstable, make yourself small (FF stable or like a ball), so you wont cork." problem is, if you spin while in sit, feel that you're about to lose it and "get small" you'll only spin faster (like an ice skater increasing the spin rate by tucking in the arms). i'm asking about the stage where you're about to get unstable, where "be symmetrical, watch your legs, try to look the other way" and so on, have failed. so how do you not cork and not get into a more violent spin ? (by extending your arms again ?) O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."
  15. so which one is it ? (or is it one of those things where there is not "right" way?) and, if the toggles are unstowed, does it change the answer ? O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."
  16. its good to hear that usually there wont be any problems with taking your gear on board. but,,, does anybody have a "bad" experience where his/her rig was not allowed onboard? just remember that thieves like Samsonite too... "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."
  17. you mean to force a separation both in bi-plane and in side by side ? as far as i know you're supposed to handle it VERY carefully and only if you have a few feet between them cut away. i can imagine "helping" them apart if they're side by side but is it wise (or too risky even?) to do that on a bi-plane situation? O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."
  18. >Eitherway, after some jumps on your canopy, you'll >know what a good opening feels like. i only have about 15 jumps with my new canopy so i guess i'm still in the "have to make sure" stage, and having closed end cells most of the times doesn't help... but i'm sure it wont be long before i just "feel" if everything is ok. O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."
  19. i've noticed that too but still i cant help (and not sure i want to stop) looking up and making sure that everything goes where it should up there... "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."
  20. even if you decide to have a "no maneuver" jump, from what i remember , you'll find yourself repeating what you've learned and checking that you still have it right. just remember your altitude, jump run direction (don't track into someone else's space) and so on... have fun ! "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."
  21. can't think of anything wrong with a big smile... and if it makes other smile back at you , even better "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."
  22. what would you say about using a small (panoramic ?) mirror on your alti strap to check for overhead traffic just before pulling ? i've seen camera ppl use it to check the LED, so why not for ppl ? besides, looks like a better way to stay stable than rolling or a quick head turn... "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero."
  23. Hi , i've started sitflying recently and i know all of the theory on how it should be done , but... during freefall, even if i find myself sitting, i start to spin and dive sideways like a F-16 on a strike run... at that point i just arch , get stable and try again... i think the problem is mostly my legs... -what is the best way to get to the position ? from belly to earth or from on my back ? - any good exercise i can do to make the right muscles to work (beside squats against a wall..) thanks O

  25. Hi ... need some color advice... how does a purple wings container go with the BBY on a sabre2 (for some reason there is no purple for sabre2)? is white a good color (i mean, will it stay white for long ?) and in general, is there a good match between the container and canopy colors? picking colors makes my life a mess... O
