  1. Sure, but you can't throw out the rules because sometimes they get applied poorly. Instead you work to make sure the rules are applied properly. - Dan G
  2. No, the only thing that keeps our government from overreaching is that most people working for the government believe in the rule of law. If that changes, your pea shooters aren't going to do you any good. I agree, I just don't see how requiring background checks for gun purchases infringes anyone's rights. - Dan G
  3. With a working fob, you can't lock the keys in the car. With a good system, that includes the trunk. The car won't lock from the outside with the key inside. That's a pretty good advantage. If the battery dies, there is still a physical key inside the fob that works just like a regular key (at least on my car). You just pull that key out and it's like you're back in 1985. The only thing I don't like about my fob is that the panic button is super sensitive. Not a week goes by that I don't accidentally set off the car alarm when my phone presses the panic button in my pocket. I keep meaning to disable the button, but never seem to get around to it. A friend of mine disabled his panic button my gluing a dime over it. - Dan G
  4. I'll admit he said what was quoted above. He never promised not to take a vacation. I read his statement as meaning that your personal issues take a backseat to the needs of the country. In other words, if taking a vacation would be adverse to the needs of the country (i.e. during a crisis) then you shouldn't take a vacation. I don't think he ever said that a President should never leave his desk. - Dan G
  5. Whatever. This is such a stupid tempest in a teapot I can't believe I bothered responding. Haters gonna hate. - Dan G
  6. Obviously not, because when I pointed out that he never promised not to take a vacation, you replied with his number of vacation days. Face it, you just hadn't had an Obama bash all day, so you parroted this lame shit. - Dan G
  7. He never promised no vacations. Even in your quote, he didn't say that the President should never take a vaction. He just said that personal needs should take a backseat to the requirements of the job. Sheesh. I understand that you feel the need to parrot the right wing talking point of the day, but sometimes they are a real stretch. - Dan G
  8. Absolutely. But if you're placating your fears by telling yourself skydiving isn't dangerous, then you're lying to yourself. Statistically, skydiving lessens your life expectancy. Period. I have no problem with people doing whatever they want, I just think they should do so with open eyes. - Dan G
  9. You were doing such a good job of sounding reasonable until this. You just had to get in a stupid dig. Shit like this just makes it easier for anti-gun people to dismiss you as a whacko. - Dan G
  10. Do what you want, but remeber that this is totally false: - Dan G
  11. Was there a comment in there, or did you just want to quote that because you agree? - Dan G
  12. In general, no. Of someone they consider a murderer? Probably. - Dan G
  13. Well, the women you know who have struggled to find peace after an abortion are very different from the ones I've known. I don't know anyone who killed themselves, or struggles daily with a choice made years ago. I assumed it had to do with the environment. Maybe it's just chance, but it seems more likely that women in very conservative, anti-abortion environments are going to have a harder time dealing with the choice than those in loving, supporting environments. - Dan G
  14. These women you know, do tyhey have to live with their friends and families calling them murderers all the time? That might make living with the decision a little harder. - Dan G
  15. I'm pretty sure nerdgirl has renounced her SC citizenship. - Dan G
  16. It would attract current Republicans. No Democrats will sign up for your xenophobic Christian party. Get ready for years of Democratic rule. By which you mean only letting white Europeans in. That is the right wing blogosphere claim. The real number is likely very much lower (CNN estimates 5%). Data is hard to come by. Either way, Savage's number is highly inflated. The "anchor baby" law is most commonly known as the US Constitution. Sorry you don't like it. Meh. Whatever. It's just more xenophobia. Other languages and cultures have a lot to offer. I don't understand why your tribe is so afraid of them. Already happens, already a citizenship requirement. Or do you mean we should stop teaching the negative parts of US history? America, fuck yeah, should be the only part that the kids learn? How, exectly, are you going to make Putin play nice? I still haven't figured out (beside your Biblical gibberish) why people like you want to treat Israel so differently than every other country. Tomato, to-mah-to. Call it what you want, it doesn't change what's happening on the ground. We are not in a "culture war" or a Crusade (read jihad). As much as you want to bring about Armaggedon, please stop trying to change US policy based on your silly book. You mean, white grandmothers and children, right? Shouldn't be still bar Arab grandmothers and children from travelling? Which tax incentives are you talking about? I bet you have no idea. Funding should go to science. Done properly, there is no pro- or con- side. The results are the results. The fact that your tribe doesn't like the results doesn't necessarily mean the science was biased. Yeah, so put the foxes in charge of the henhouse. Insane. That sounds great until a drunk doctor kills your kid. I can get behind some changes to the Affirmative Action system, but scrapping it entirely will end up with the reintroduction of institutional racism with no legal recourse. Sure. Except don't put blinders on and think our only enemy is radical Islam. I love how you're always trying to conflate Progressivism with Islam. It's pretty lame. Anyway, bullshit on this one. Sure, there are some colleges which have a liberal bent, but there are plenty with a conservative bent, too. Do you think Christian colleges should be free-speech zones, too? Bullshit. Anyway, I'm surprised you think Islamic teachers should be allowed to prostheletize. I suspect you mean that Christianity can be discussed, but other religions should be banned. Obama hasn't done anything to destroy the military. The size of the military is coming down, as it should after a war. Training in the community is the best way to train for low intensity conflict. You can't simulate that on a military base. This one is just silly. - Dan G
  17. The DAV is mostly a lobbying organization. Not to say that isn't important, but they don't do an awful lot of direct help to individual veterans. They do partner with other groups, but direct support isn't their primary focus. Fisher House is a good charity. They provide housing near the DoD hospital for wounded soldiers' families while the soldier recovers. Having family close by can be one of the most important things in the early recovery process. - Dan G
  18. Two passovers and you're out is still the policy in the Army. - Dan G
  19. You should actually read your links. They are full of bullshit, including the fact that 157 of the 197 senior officers relieved in the "purge" were O-4s. Do you really think Obama has time to give a shit about the political views of Air Force Majors? Gimme a break. - Dan G
  20. Dude, it's not even real. Let it go. - Dan G
  21. Let us know when any of these people he keeps talking about actually speak up. I bet he has a super hot girlfriend, too. You wouldn't know her through; she's from Canada. - Dan G
  22. In an ideal world, that would be perfect. The system that Texas used where the top 10% of a given high school graduates automatically got in seemed like a good, race neutral method of evening out the racial disparities in secondary education. For some reason, it didnn't seem to work. Diversity plummeted. Now, I know that to an individual student, there is no such thing as diversity. Each individual is just that, an individual. But to an organization, diversity can be important. I'm not sure what the answer it to make sure admissions are fair to the individual, while still meeting the organization's goals. - Dan G
  23. Did Carter round up all the Muslims and register them? Did he proclaim that only Christians should be allowed to migrate here? Are you of the opinion that Jimmy Carter was a great president and should be emulated? - Dan G
  24. Like I expected. No substance. BTW, you're not the only person in the world with experience in this area. - Dan G
