  1. I guess it depends on what your after. The Sunpath Javelin is a very popular container. Many jumpers are very happy with them. The Javelin has been described as the Chevy of skydiving. The Mirage G3 is more refined and has several features that are not available on the Javelin. Mirage Systems has a faster delivery time 2-6 weeks for a custom container. They are also offering an additional 10% manufacturers discount off stock containers. I suggest looking at previous threads and reading both reviews in the Dropzone gear section. Also contact the manufacturers and ask questions.

    2 Inches...

Kris, Women have been complaining about a "messily 2" for years
  3. Don't be scammed! The Sky Supplies Mirage in NOTHING like the current container. The container that you mentioned with a DOM 1984 is not what your after. This container is out of date equipment. If you are looking for a good deal on used equipment, Mirage has a few known dealers with good modern equipment. PM me or email me at the office [email protected]
  4. If you dealer was having problems with Mirage Systems customer or dealer service and we did fix the problem, I don't blame him/her for not recommending a Mirage. We had a serious problem with our customer service last spring and summer. We had too much work and not enough people. Now Mirage Systems has a full time customer service rep (Connie). This has freed me and the other staff up to help customers more. I truly hope you are enjoying your Javelin. Please keep us in mind for you next container. If anyone is having difficulties with their container (Mirage or otherwise) do not hesitate contacting your dealer or the manufacturer directly.

    Who is jumping?

Hi Josh, I have been thinking about packing up the whole dog and pony show and heading your direction in the near future. I hope everything has been well with you.
  6. Since it was pointed out that skydivers have influenced the manufacturers toward less safe designs. I.E (mini risers) We, at Mirage Systems, were curious what the jumpers of dropzone.com are interested in. Since all the the manfacturers claim to make a safe container and it is the general opinion that they do, what are your motivation to buy a new rig. What feature do you find most important in purchasing a container? Flap Design Harness Design Container Size Available Options Price other

    Who is jumping?

Since Sept. 11 have you gone to the skydiving? More Often Less Often I have gone about the same amount
  8. contact your container manufacturer.
  9. As a parachute/container manufacturer we are responsible for the safety of our product, and in accordance with FAA regulation have the right to modify or require mods to be made to that product. The secondary closing loop attachment found on Mirage harness/container systems built between April 1997 and December 1999 have an adequate design but Mirage Systems PREFERS them removed. Since many riggers do not have the skills to properly remove the secondary closing loop attachment we do the work in house. Containers that we receive for repair that have the secondary closing loop attachment have had it removed to ensure the safest rig possible. As for this specific case, Mirage Systems customer service and technical department have been in contact with the customer. It was determined that it was a primarily a down sizing issue and a slight misunderstanding. Mirage Systems, like many parachute manufacturers, have the customers safety as it's number 1 priority. If a skydiver has a question or is upset with a product or service the FIRST and foremost authority is the manufacturer. If you are not getting the answers that you deserve then by all means Dropzone.com is the place to post your veiws.
  10. Diverstump, Check you personal email. Not your Dropzone.com account.
  11. That is a little embarrassing I have never seen a photo in print of a Mirage open. I know the guy in the photo and he takes care of his gear. I will exchange one bad photo on the USPA calendar for the hundreds of bad photos that the other manufacturers have had to endure. Maybe we should give him a new rig.
  12. I can not speak for other manufacturers but Mirage Systems build 90% custom containers. We only build stock when there is slack in production. There is a demand for immediate delivery but it is small. Especially since we have such short delivery times. You should contact your authorized DEALER. You have a lot of questions and they are the most experienced at answering them. We do have an additional discount to the dealers discount but we may not have anything that will fit you or your canopies.
  13. I absolutely agree that it is ridiculous. Is it just me or doesn't anybody remember how the terrorist took over the airplanes. THEY GOT INTO THE FLIGHT DECK!!!!! No they didn't shot their way in, no they didn't blow their way in with explosives. They forced their way in because the doors were not secured. I recently returned from the Winter Expo in Chicago. On take off on my connecting flight into Daytona the flight deck door CAME OPEN. The flight attendant reached over and held the door to keep it from completely opening. I was SOOOO pissed. At that point, if I had been some crazed terrorist, I could have easily rushed the flight deck from my seat. The real pisser was that the flight deck door appeared to have been recently reinforced to keep people from punching their way in the bottom. I was really inclined to have a word with the pilot in command about the lack of his security check once we landed.
  14. If you are looking for the most comfortable and the highest quality of service and product get the Mirage G3 with the Unisyn harness. You won't be sorry. Plus the delivery time is great!
  15. In response to "I'd love to see what Jimmy Trantor would say to that !" I heard that Jimmy T has a Micron on order. The freefly school at DeLand is all getting Microns.
  16. Rhino, If you think the Racer is "fail safe" then I have some ocean front property in AZ to sell you. The racer has more problems with the risers coming out in freefall due to the Velcro riser covers than any other container. I won't even go into depth on the lack of main pin protection. Would you like me to also talk about the risk of a main line snagging on the pop top? I generally keep my mouth shut when it comes to other manufacturers products. Throwing mud doesn't get you very far, but statements like "Does anyone know of a rig other than a Racer that is Fail Safe??" deserves flaming.
  17. In reply to: Skybytch's comment "I'm talking about the inside of the "eye" on the single piece ending. Put a finger on either side of it and push down, you'll see what I mean when you pull your fingers away and see round imprints on them. Think cable suck through here. " I think you are miss understanding how the forces act on the cable, loop, and end fitting. The end fitting that Mirage Systems used from 1996-2002 was designed by the Army to reduce the likelihood of the cable being "sucked" through the end fitting during deployment. The smooth flat surface distributes the force over a greater area, reducing the likelihood of kinking or worse yet pulling through. This year Mirage Systems retooled the end fitting to improve the design that the US Army developed a number of years ago. This was at a great cost to Mirage Systems. They believes that it provides a safer cutaway system to the jumper. The VERY common amp end fitting was developed from an electrical connection crimp, bell telephone wire housing, and a grommet. It's cheap and it works well in MOST situations. But in heavy riser loads it FAILS, allowing the riser loop to pull the cable through beveled grommet impeding a cutaway. BTW the Army has over 20,000 end fittings in service. All of them have an exceptional record.
  18. NathanL100, Check with the manufacturer of you choice if they have a container that will work best with that combination. As Phreezone mentioned, it really depends of the difference between pack volumes. Mirage Systems does have a couple of container sizes that work better than others for down sizing. It also depends on you reserve combination. This forum is not the place for me to go into a sales pitch. If you would like more information check out the Mirage web site. www.miragesys.com or email them.
  19. "I've also seen folks switch to different risers on mirages because the release loop on the main risers of the mirage were too short, causing a hard cutaway, has nothing to do with the reserve handle exept after that you'll have to go for either the pillow or the handle" Where did you get THAT information. YOU couldn't be farther from the truth. The Mirage riser loop is well within the 3 Rings incorportate (The 3 ring release designer) specifications. If you would like to get more information about Mirage Systems equipment contact. [email protected]
  20. I have been away from my desk and I have not gotten a chance to see Dropzone.com forum lately. The problems with hard cutaways are result of a number of things. About 6 years ago we had the change the cutaway housings from fabric (soft) back to metal. Even with this change we continued to have hard cutaways. At first it was blamed on the "G" forces that develop. But later it was determined that the excess cable in the back of the risers were becoming trapped due to the friction developed in the twisting risers. (best example is a chinese hand cuffs) The container and riser hard housing address the friction side of the hard housing but it does explain the cable damage. Cable damage can occur in two way. Extremely hard opening created high dynamic forces that actually pulls the cable into the cutaway housing end fitting or sustained load forces compressing the plastic coating. Most manufacturer use the amp end fittings. They have a grommeted opening that is INTENDED to allow the cable to easily side by during a cutaway. Unfortunately the grommet also promotes the cable to be pull through the opening, most of the time just kinking it. That is why Mirage Systems does not use that kind of end fitting. If you want more information about Mirage Systems cutaway systems contact them.
  21. Many Manufacturers use or have used the older style leg strap friction adapter the Stainless Steel MS 22040. This piece of hardware slips. Mirage Systems used it in 1998 and after a team reported slippage they sent a notice to the approx. 50 owners that there was a possibility for slipping. 99% of all of those Mirage owner returned the container for new hardware at no charge. Mirage Systems will not use the Stainless Steel MS 22040 hardware on its container. Once the Parachutes de France SP888 hardware became available and was approved by the FAA, Mirage Systems began to upgrade the friction adapters. I personally had the stainless steel MS 22040 and I had slippage under a slow opening canopy. My new rig has the SP888 hardware. I feel that it has a better grip than a non-stainless MS 22040 leg strap friction adapter. If you are jumping a container with stainless steel MS 22040 hardware. Have it changed! Unsymetrical harness loads due to slipping hardware can cause line twists. Contact your manufacturer about upgrading to the SP888 hardware.

  23. You should really contact the Relative Workshop about shipping to them for the repair. This is a major repair. The harness and the bottom of the container have to be unstitched to replace the plastic stiffener.
  24. Hi 3fLiEr, Each manufacturer has their own ideas about the bag placement. With the Mirage the bag must be place with the lines toward the bottom of the container and bridle attachment grommet towards the top of the container. This is very important to insure proper deployment. The bag is also was not designed to lie in the main container in that orientation. The main container will not fill out properly and will look bulging.
  25. Dear Rmcvey, The container that you have is a G1 (Generation 1). This container design is slightly wider but thinner than the G3 containers that Mirage Systems is currently building. You rigger can use the current manual for direction for packing the reserve. If you want you can send you container into Mirage Systems for a inspection. We can repair or replace anything that is necessary. Contact Connie in customer service at [email protected] As for the Velcro Riser cover unfortunately there is nothing we can do. The cost for such a repair and the amount damage we would do to the container rebuilding it makes it not feasible. You have a good rig. My first Mirage was a G1 and it was probably my favorite with the exception of my current rig. It was VERY comfortable. Have your rigger change the Velcro regularly or send it to Mirage. If you have any questions please do not hesitate contact Mirage Systems.
