  1. Okay..sorry...I won't do it again...promise..
  2. It's sad when people do that kinda stuff..
  3. I'm also near the 100....but I'm not gonna post-whore to get there!
  4. GAWD, is this a big conspiricy or something :) The last 4 threads I posted in the last few days all died with my post... WHAT AM I DOING WRONG HERE?!!! *sits down and cries like a 3 year old*
  5. Work on my animation skills and become an animator at Pixar....(and move to the USA because of that:)
  6. I don't realy post much, but here's the reason I started Ever since I was a kid I was facinated by skydivers. Twice a year there'd be demo's and my dad always took me there. He used to pack parachutes when he was in his 20's and his twin brother (my uncle) jumped a lot. My dad also signed up for a jump-cource, but a few weeks before he was to go, his brother had a serious skydiving accident which nearly left him paralized (it all worked out, but he never fully recovered) My dad abandoned the whole thing (not to upset my mom and his mother) but always remained facinated by skydiving. I gues it just rubbed off on me. To a 10 to 12 year old those guys with the big jumpsuits looked SOO cool, next to the fact that airplanes and jumping from them seemed incredible to me... How stupid it may sound, it never really occured to me that I could actualy do it myself. Untill my GF was finished with school and left for Australia for 1/2 a year to go backpacking with here brother... I needed something to keep my mind of missing her, and on her goodbye party I jokingly sayd to a girlfriend of here "If she goes to Australia, We'll go skydiving" But to my surprise she sayd "yea sure...sign us up" So 2 months later we where both sitting in the door of a C206 during a freezing dutch winter :) My friend had a lot of fun but a few nasty landings the first 3 jumps and got a bit scared, so she sadly gave up. It's been slighly over a year now, and she still would love to jump again, but the fear of landings got the better of her.. The first jump passed in a blur for me, I landed in a dense forrest (chute in a small tree) and had 4 landings after that involving trees/forrest or wood of some sort (a 'real' tree-landing on jump #5, earning me the nickname "The TreeDoktor"), and never saw the DZ up close :) But the bug realy bit me, and luckely I got better (haven't had an off-DZ landing since jump#6) and found something in this sport which I love, and which realy inspires me (and f*cks up the days I can't jump bacause of thinking about jumping:) Due to numerous reasons I haven't made a lot of jumps the last few months (pneumonia, the whole food and mouth thing with the cows, lack of money) and have 36 jumps at the moment. But I'm seriously hooked, and have set my goals towards making my 100th jump before the year is over :) Anyways...I love the sport, the people, the atmosphere...and I hate the Dutch weather :) JC
  7. Not that mainstream means 'a good film' but it's some groovy stuff... If you haven't seen the trailer to Vin Diesels new flic 'Triple X' I suggest you head on over to www.apple.com/trailers/ The trailer is pretty much your standard no-brainer action film, but in the end there is a realy cool shot of Vin Diesel riding on top of a car from a bridge, waiting for one or two secs when he jumps a pulls his base chute.. It looks like a real BASE jump to me (the jumper reaches for his pilot directly and looks focussed on what he's doing instead of just trying to look cool) although I doubt weather it's Vin Diesel himself (face-replacements aren't that hard nowadays) It also looks real to me due to the fact that in the wide shot, you can see the camera attached to the hood/nose of the car (which will probably be removed digitaly for the final film) Cool stuff....but again...a silly action film without a strong story...but who knows...it might be fun (and get kids to buy second hand parachutes and dive of clifs and kill themselves and start a debate on how stupid base jumpers are?) Anyways....watch the trailer :) JC
  8. How about getting a 12.000 feet cord, buying this baby http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1698163216 Fire her up from y'r own backyard, and at 12 grand, just jump off and when you landed reel here back in and get ready for another ride :) Not sure if she's got the lift capacity you need...but who cares..it's a great idea..:)
  9. How about a DZ.com sew-on patch (how do you call one of those things?) That way you could just sew it onto your excisting jump-suit...
  10. You can also (if you have a second DV deck or a second camera you can borrow) just copy your DV tape to a new one DV tape. This will (if I remember correctly) write a new uninterupted timecode on the new tape, with the same footedge (without quality loss)
  11. I think a lot of people also become a member to get a groovy @dropzone.com mail adress :) Before I discovered the forums that was my reason to join..
  12. I have severe Astma and skydive. One or two months ago I posted a message asking if anyone else had Astma which might cause problems when going up to 12.000 to 13.000 ft (I had not been higher then 9.000 ft yet) I'm happy to say that I've been up to 12.000 ft without problems. I just told the JM to watch for signs of me getting hypoxia (Astmatic persons and heavy smokers tend to have problems with too little oxigen sooner) but everything went incredibly fine (and it ended up being one of the best jumps I made ever..beautifull sunset, orange/red clouds, landing excactly in the center of the pea's) Anyways...some suggested taking my inhaler up. Most common medicine for Astma (Such as Ventolin) also comes in powdered form (with an inhaler on which you need to suck instead of just blasting it in your mouth like a can of spray-paint :) so you could ask for that at the doktor (so you can take it up without risk blowing up the pressurized canister of your normal Astma medication. But most medication takes at least 10 to 30 minutes before it starts working, so you might as well let him/her just take the medication before taking off (just to be sure) You could suggest her to breath a bit deeper to inhale more air, but one of the Tandem Masters at my DZ told me that he tends to just say that Astma poses no differences. He does this because telling someone to breath deep is more likely to cause someone to start focusing on his/her breathing and start to hyperventilate... Just tell your cousin/friend that there are several jumpers with Astma who jump alone, and they've never had any problems...she should be fine, and should only focus on having a good time (not on breathing problems..) Have fun..
  13. >And as for bungee jumping: never tried, but sure want to. >Anybody know of a good place to jump in or near Holland? Fonzy, just check behind Amsterdam Central station there is a permanent bungy-setup. Been there with a few buddies of mine who did a jump together (I was broke..as usual..only filmed them) Read somewhere that (I believe) Joe Jennings did a couple of bungy jumps to train for his first base-jump. Sounds like a great way to practice Base-exits (if you wanted to, not for me though..I'll just stick to 'normal' jumping :-) Cya, JC
  14. Usualy I just try to explain in a simple way how it work (you have a reserve, what an AAD is, and how safe it is compared to driving) and yes...it does sometimes get repetitive to explain, but who cares (since I'm usualy the one who brings it up anyway) When people snort and start talking about how dangerous it is, I just laugh it away with the "Horse-riding, Driving a Car and Winter-sports are many times more dangerous, and you do that don't you?" But the good thing about being open about it to people (instead of acting superiour) is that you can sometimes realy spark an interest with people. So far I've managed to get my father, sister and three collegues to try a tandemjump, and my brother and nephew both started jumping because of what I told them. It took no 'pushing' from my side...just an honest explanation about how I love it..what it does with me and how it makes me feel... I don't hate whuffo's...the only thing that can really bug me are those 1 tandemjump skygods who keep acting like they are experienced skydivers when they have no real intention of getting into the sport.....(Fonzy, you know "EddyRulez"?? from the .nl forum...:)
  15. btw. Vanila Sky, the new Tom Cruise flic (haven't seen it, only saw the trailer so far) Did anyone else think "aaaah....that poor guy...stuck in between a 'just sex' relationship with Cameron Diaz and having Penelopy Cruz on the other side....his life must be soooo hard.." I wanna see that flic...poor bastard...:)
  16. Which video/song would that be (gonna try and find it at kazaa, I'm a video freak:)
  17. I was lookigng for some info on skydiving stars (a lot of them are '1 tandemjump' selfproclaimed skydivers like our hero Leonardo DiCaprio) but Tom Cruise is actualy supposed to do a lot of serious jumping (anyone run in to him anywhere??) I found an article which stated the reasons why he divorced Nicole *WHOOF* kidman....and while most people have no idea *KOUCH*HE LIKES MAN*KOUCH* this article at http://www.rickross.com/reference/scientology/scien278.html had a few lines which got me thinking... "Cruise likes to skydive, fly antique planes and stay home with his children. 'However much they may have loved each other, the mix began to look wrong,' said a Hollywood agent and friend." He tried to get her hooked too (Nicole Kidman did AFF, but didn't continue skydiving from what I read) but failed.. Maybe Nicole wouldn't let him skydive anymore so he just cutaway :) Who knows... Puzzling...:)
  18. If your handy with a video-camera and editing equiptment, I suggest you post some adds in a local paper offering your services. People are willing to pay big bucks for something as silly as a video of someones life (just editing old stuff they give you) for people's 10th/50th/75th birtday/wedding aniverseries (sorry about incorrect spelling:) and you can ask even more for shooting a wedding-video, which is great. It only involves 1 day of filming, and maybe one or two days of editing, and people easely pay $500 for a simple video. If your good at your stuff you can also try company promotion video's (and offer to shoot company outings/parties) and they will also pay good cash (because 'professional' companies and people ask about three times what you would dare to ask, while it is not always better qualitywise:) So...if your 'into' video...you found your part-time cash-cow.. Succes.. Jarno
  19. Anyone know what happened to the skydivingmovies ftp?
  20. The wages (taxes especiualy), the weather, and the fact that there is NO free space (on groundlevel as well as in the sky) makes it kind of hard to live in Holland. Because of dense air-traffic above Holland, a lot of Dutch DZ's have a lot of holdings when it comes to getting some decent hight. On the bright side, you won't find many countries that are only 200 by 300 km's, and have a grand total of 10 to 15 different dropzones. I have one DZ located 15 minutes from my home, one at an hours drive, and three at 1,5 hours drive, and the rest is also within 3 hours of reach... But what good are that many DZ's when the weather is sucky most of the time (actualy, when I'm typing this, the weather is incredible, finaly, but I'm out of jumpmoney for this month..AAAAAHHHH) Then comes the money....I make good money (doing 3D animation/compositing and video-editing) but you can lose 1/3 to (in some extremes) 1/2 of it on taxes here....which sucks... And the thing that bugs me most is how crowded Holland is. If there is a patch of land with 6 trees on it they call it a forrest, and in summer, there will be 100 ppl on that patch of land, celebrating their holiday... I NEED SOME ROOM TO LIVE, BREATH AND RELAX!! Next to that there is no real nature here...no big forrest/mountains (there are a few hills of about 200 mtr's...those are the Dutch mountains:) or other beautifull nature places to go and relax... In one or two year me and my girl hope to move to either the US (CA) or Australia (hoping to get a decent job in the animation/broadcast industry) Hows the (jumping)weather in San Fransisco? And are there any DZ's near ??? Anyways...Holland is nice...but it's not for me... Jarno http://www.3dluvr.com/mccordia/
  21. Who cares if Mickey got slapped by prettyboy Iglesias? Mickey just wipes his mouth and kills that sorry little sob..you happy, me happy...everybody happy, right? What I don't get is...those rich singing ppl. own airplanes, can 'make' their own free time. Earn more money in one month, then I will make in a lifetime....and all they do is snif coke (Whitney Houston anyone:), bitch about 'how hard it is' to be ritch and famous...GOD...get a hobby (and when you have loads of money and your own airplane..it shouldn't be difficult to put 1 and 1 together right?? ....sorry...It's weekend and the weather sucks...I'm depressed (Holland sux) JC
  22. Gives a whole new meening to "Getting a boner" and "Getting Nailed" And how the hell did they solve that? Is he the first man with a boner with bones? And just imagine...seeing a guy standing there naked, and having his equipment wave at you how you usualy do with your finger........'come here you!' Sick..:)
  23. Also found a few nice airplane models. Would be cool to modify them to look like your own DZ aircraft and have it hanging above the bed or placed on the TV or in the living room (not sure my GF would see the point in that though...:) Cute Cessna model http://www.daveswebshop.com/mc11608.html and I found this (flying) pilatus porter kit, powered by rubber band (DAMN THIS ONE LOOKS COOL!! too big to put on top of the TV though:) http://www.jamara.com/Planes/pilatus_turbo_porter_rubber_powe.htm Also found this page which has an expensive, but beautifull King Air at http://www.historicaviation.com/product_info.po;jsessionid=ScfG1kpRAMTEuzZVJnew-Dvy(0CppBxOJ)?ID=3770 A cool (expensive) Twin Otter: http://www.historicaviation.com/product_info.po;jsessionid=8X1uHeDjLZrKZKh89Xg0qq71(0CppBxOJ)?ID=2107 I'm off...work is done... Cya.. Jarno
  24. I've always liked the movie "The Gypsy Moths" with Gene Hackman. It's about the only skydiving movie which has an actual story, and emotes you in another way then laughing... The skydiving sequences are realy cool, and also make you respect people who paved the way for skydiving in it's current state and form. Rent or buy it...it's a great movie.. Jarno http://www.3dluvr.com/mccordia/ p.s. I'm curious to weather Gene Hackman actualy skydived for that movie, anyone know of this
