  1. I totally agree, the Texans is probably the worst name in all of professional sports, Grasshoppers, you're off the hook. I vote to bring back the good ol Colt .45's. Now theres a team name with some machismo. Word. Grendel Khan-The Official DZ.Com Newbie Forum Nuisance "They sicken of the calm, that know the storm."
  2. Wow, what an inane question. I can't beleive you would make a joke out of something that kills every day. really, why would you voluntarily take up an activity that drains your money, offends people in the community with its first and second hand dangers and can be directly linked to thousands of deaths? Just because cool people do it? Thats no reason to take up skydiving. Yes there are some cool people, but do the benefits really outweigh the inherent risks? 3. It could be worse, they could have called the team "Houston Juneteenth" Grendel Khan-The Official DZ.Com Newbie Forum Nuisance "They sicken of the calm, that know the storm."
  4. Well, you know what they say, the squeeky wheel gets the grease. or...The vocal minority has a greater power to affect change on the issues they deem necessary to devote the time, energy and resources to than others who can not or are not willing to devote an equal amount of resources. It may be frivolous to change a name because a small percentage finds it offensive, but if there was an equal movement and outcry to keep the name, it might have stayed. 5. Oh hell, so....many...clikies.....I just blew an hour and a half of what would normally be productive work time to keep up with all the argumants and clickable links. Grendel Khan-The Official DZ.Com Newbie Forum Nuisance "They sicken of the calm, that know the storm."
  6. They're probably changing the name for business reasons after they realized that Mexicans will likely make up a large part of the fan base since Americans don't have much interest in the sport...I doubt they would take that measure if Houston was to name a hockey team after the year 1836. DING DING DING! We have a winner folks. Soccer teams are still businesses too, and there may be no more sure fire way to sink a business than pissing off your key demographic. The MLS has been limping along for almosta decade now, and I'm sure the majority of people who would pay to go watch the MLS in Houston are latinos. It may not be right, it may be ridiculous, but why should the team owner torque off paying customers just to make a point? 7. "Terrorists, your game is through, cuz now you have to answer to...America, FUCK YEAH! Back again to save the mother fuckin day, yeah! America, FUCK YEAH! Freedom is the only way, yeah." Grendel Khan-The Official DZ.Com Newbie Forum Nuisance "They sicken of the calm, that know the storm."
  8. For real!!! The problem is they reduce writing to some sort of formulaic crap that has no soul and judge you on how neatly you stay within their stupid little boundaries. For me, writing is about risk, not boundaries. I'm afraid all you can do is just suck it up and give them what they want to see. Walt I totally agree, forcing writers to contain themselves to certain mandated "styles" and "formats" kills creativity and independant thought. Unless you're working in a tech writing sort of field, you should be encouraged to stretch the boundaries of the imagination. Maybe thats why a strange proportion of great writers are half insane, they had to sit through brain dead comp courses and their brains revolted. 9. Whoo Hoo! the B-Side wins again! Oops....I mean....uhhhh....yeah, no I really meant it. Hooray for Bush taking care of the oil business! The only reason i can afford to skydive is because of the energy company i work for, and it' sabout time to stand up for the little guy....I mean, stand up for the huge multi-national energy conglomerate. 10. The problem that a lot of people here in TX have with Sheehan is that she is not "openely dissenting" for any cause other than her own. She is a media hound who would rather waste months of her life sitting outside Bush's ranch in front of CNNs cameras than actually pushing for any realistic change. If she does get her meeting with Bush, then what? He will give her the same cookie cutter rhetoric that he shovels on the rest of us and send her on her merry way. Sheehan isn't an activist or a radical, she is a media whore making her name on the back of a dead soldier. 11. A lot of SUVs are not gas guzzlers. A lot of non SUVs are gas guzzlers. A lot of family minivans get the same mileage as similar sized SUVs, and many people with only 1 or 2 kids get minivans when a small sedan would serve well. They are not criticized because everyone knows that people don't get minivans to boost their ego. People that buy SUVs often like the image that the vehicle provides, so that is judged bad. I am so tired of SUVs being singled out as inefficient. What about pickups owned by people that almost never use the bed, or powerful luxury cars, or powerful sports cars? Whoa, where did the SUV lobbyists come from? Don't take my post so liteerally. I was not impugning the almighty SUV, the point was that end consumers refuse to give up on the fossil fuel consuming luxuries which means enrgy companies will be reticent in turning to new power sources. I apologize for hurting your feelings, SUV's do get a bad rap from the media. Everytime I hear someone talk about SUV's terrible gas milage it is not only stereotyplical, but rascist to those of us who chose to drive them and then justify it by saying mini-vans and pick ups are just as bad, right? 12. Why would energy companies trying to make a fat profit margin want to switch to alternative energy when there are thousands of people who daily buy themselves a new SUV? The energy trade is like the drug trade, as long as there is demand there will be supply. Grendel Khan-The Official DZ.Com Newbie Forum Nuisance "They sicken of the calm, that know the storm."
  13. A study conducted by a group at Harvards Kennedy School last year found that 76.5% of all facts are made up on the spot. Grendel Khan-The Official DZ.Com Newbie Forum Nuisance "They sicken of the calm, that know the storm."
  14. Traditionalists, be damned. Their plans have been on hold for a couple thousand years now, so we have to look for synergistic and fresh new ideas. It's time to think about Armegeddon out of the box. Israel is no longer hip or trendy, what we need is a location that celebrities will flock to and convince that 13-28 demographic that its the newest "in" thing. We need a location that will support millions of soldiers, the Holy Host, the Devil and his posse, and all the film crews and various press agencies, as well as the assorted spectators and hangers on. We need ample hotel and restaraunt presence, parking for all the above mentioned participants, nightly entertainment, an open, yet easily viewable battlefield, and possibly a skydiving center in the area for the weekend. wait...idea coming in....how about Vegas? It's the new city of Sin, it is surrounded by open desert, Los Angeles is a short hop away and there will be more than enough hotels and eateries to satisfy all the combatants (not to mention the nightly debauchery, wink wink). There is also a rather sizable AirForce base (Nellis, I think) which could support the battle. If you have other suggestions (try to avoid the middle east, that place is a logistical nightmare) please let th eplanning committee know, there is still plenty of time to plan thi sout. 15. Say word son, when can we expect that bomb to drop? All the fulumies at Hastings here in town will tell me is "later this spring". Is there a set release date yet? Grendel Khan-The Official DZ.Com Newbie Forum Nuisance "They sicken of the calm, that know the storm."
  16. I boycott Wal-Mart, but it has nothing to do with their Chinese relations. I live in East Texas and the sheer volume of sweaty guys in wife beaters with mulletts and 18 year old girls with multiple children and fewer teeth has scarred me for life. I get the shakes and uncontrollable vomiting anytime I'm near a Wally world. Grendel Khan-The Official DZ.Com Newbie Forum Nuisance "They sicken of the calm, that know the storm."
  17. Good idea with the mark. It will be good to know who is supporting our cause. Also once the big businesses get on board they can offer special services to anyone bearing the mark, maybe they can even cut off any one who does not have the mark. As an employee of a major energy company, I have already brought in the majority of oil/natural gas producers so if any one wants petrol for their car or heat for their home or even electricity, they had better join the club. On a side note, I have received the tacit support of both Mahmoud Ahmadinajad and Ehud Olmert in regards to finalizing the Doomsday countdown. We are looking at an Iranian tactical nuke strike on downtown Tel Aviv, followed by a quick reatiation from Israel AND the US. As of now we are loking for about a mid-summer 2007 launch which will ensure more of an audience for CNN (I gave Ted Turner exclusive video rights to the Apocalypse in exchange for an army made up of cloned Braves players). After the obligatory retaliatory strike, we expect to have full scale nuclear war by late in the 3rd quarter of 2008. The location of the huge final battle (which will be filmed by Peter Jackson) has yet to be determined. Our focus groups have been leaning towards Cancun, Mexico with Bern, Switzerland running a close second (the theory there being that a neutral country will be able to pay more attention to the hospitality details if they don't have to battle for their lives and souls, kind of like having the super bowl in nuetral cities, no home field advantage.) We are expecting a good 3 to 4 years years of all out siege warfare (don't forget to bring a towel) after which, one final nuclear exchange will decimate the survivors and bring an age of darkness to those left behind, right on schedule in 2012. We are forming sub-committees now which will handle post-apocalyptic affairs, so get your mark and join in on the decision making. 18. I have- In Flames- Soundtrack to your Escape, (it' snot as good as the older stuff, but it's kicks much ass), DJ Spooky- Drums of Death, Devil Driver- Fury of our makers hand, and the old Nonpoint CD (I can't remember what it's called) I also have multiple audio books- Carpe Jugulum by Terry Pratchett and Rainbow Six by Tom Clancy. I have a long drive to and from work everyday, so all that changes on a daily basis. Grendel Khan-The Official DZ.Com Newbie Forum Nuisance "They sicken of the calm, that know the storm."
  19. Here's some RATM lyrics from a song that came out in 97 or 98. Maybe not as good as the old school Steppenwolf, but its a different generations take on what seems to be repeating issues. NO SHELTER -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The main attraction - distraction got ya number than nnumber than numb Empty ya pockets son; they got you thinkin that What ya need is what they sellin Make you think that buyin is rebellin From the theaters to malls on every shore Tha thin line between entertainment and war The frontline is everywhere, there be no shelter here Speilberg the nightmare works so push it far Amistad was a whip, the truth was feathered and tarred Memory erased, burned and scarred Trade in ya history for a VCR Cinema, simulated life, ill drama Fourth Reich culture - Americana Chained to the dream they got ya searchin for Tha thin line between entertainment and war There be no shelter here Tha frontline is everywhere Hospitals not profit full Yet market bulls got pockets full To advertise some hip disguise View tha world from American eyes Tha poor adore keep fiendin for more Tha thin line between entertainment and war They fix the need, develop the taste Buy their products or get laid to waste Coca-Cola is back in the veins of Saigon And Rambo too, he got a dope pair of Nikes on And Godzilla pure muthafuckin filler To keep ya eyes off the real killer Cinema, simulated life, ill drama Fourth Reich culture - Americana Chained to the dream they got ya searchin for Tha thin line between entertainment and war American eyes, American eyes.... 20. what we need here is a new project manager for the Apocalypse. The current management has been plagued by delays for almost 2000 years. There is no accountability in the upper levels in regards to getting this project off the ground. The modern day prophets (profits?) have done all they could too schedule and assign dates, places and people in a very costly difficult process. Obviously it is Gods fault for not being able to follow the time table set by the doomsayers. I understand that he has a million different responsibilities and can't be personally responsible for every little detail, but that is the same excuse that Ken Lay and his Ilk tried to use. If you're going to supervise a proper Apocalypse, then you have to be able to live up to the quarterly expectations. I say we give God until the June 6 2006 deadline to perform his duties. If we don;t have a cataclysmic event by then, I volunteer my services as fore front of the Domsday project. We will have the end of days by 2012, even if I have to work 24 hours a day 7 days a week (thats right I won't take a day of rest like previous management) All those willing to support my bid for Apocalypse Manager please attend the Doomsday Committee Semi-Annual Meeting, tentatively scheduled for June 7, 2006. Should the outgoing project lead fulfill his obligations, this meeting will be cancelled, as those of us who are left behind will be cowering in our basements with our shoutguns and Spam. THank You, that is all. Grendel Khan-The Official DZ.Com Newbie Forum Nuisance "They sicken of the calm, that know the storm."
  21. This may be slightly off topic, but I just had a killer idea for a new reality/game show that could run on AL-Jazeera and feature an all-star cast of terrorist big shots. It could be called "Last City Standing" and each week Osama and his crew tour a handful of major American metropolitan areas, identifying targets, commenting on the social and moral corruption of the people they meet (actually Osama could do some Jay Leno Jaywalking kind of stuff, but ask about Islamic culture and if you get the question wrong he slaps you and spits in your face) and visiting various historic landmarks. At the end of the show the phone lines open up and the Al-Jazeera viewers can call in to vote on which city gets eliminated from the competition (in the form of a dirty bomb strike) The last city left wins.....nothing, they just don't get attacked. Every now and again special celebrity guest stars like Sean Penn and Janeane Garroffoealloalo (sp?) can stop by to chat about the corruption of western culture. Make sure you don;t miss the hilarious hijinks as Osama and the guys from MTV's Jack-Ass tour the WHite House! Man, what a great idea, I'm a double bacon genius burger. 23. Dammit! You just shut down my office for the morning. This isn't as bad as the Yeti Olympics, but we won't be getting much work done. 25. I think the difference is that liberals who finish college feel its more important to indoctrinate impressionable younger school kids with their ideals whereas conservatives who are secure in their elitist world view enter the private sector, more content to work to better themselves. What should have been the That is the basic difference between real world liberals and conservatives, one side believes its important to share knowledge and help un-educated inbred rednecks such as myself see how our opinions are either unviable or just plain wrong, and the other side wants to convince us that if you don't fill your life with psuedo-religious morals while breaking your back and stepping on those below you to get ahead then you are an un-patriotic, disinginuous, communist, terrorist fag. Man I hate how the ultra left and right wing idiots that populate our popular culture can completely corrupt what should be two ideals working in conjunction to make the county better.
