  1. I totally agree, the Texans is probably the worst name in all of professional sports, Grasshoppers, you're off the hook. I vote to bring back the good ol Colt .45's. Now theres a team name with some machismo. Word. Grendel Khan-The Official DZ.Com Newbie Forum Nuisance "They sicken of the calm, that know the storm."
  2. Wow, what an inane question. I can't beleive you would make a joke out of something that kills every day. really, why would you voluntarily take up an activity that drains your money, offends people in the community with its first and second hand dangers and can be directly linked to thousands of deaths? Just because cool people do it? Thats no reason to take up skydiving. Yes there are some cool people, but do the benefits really outweigh the inherent risks? 3. It could be worse, they could have called the team "Houston Juneteenth" Grendel Khan-The Official DZ.Com Newbie Forum Nuisance "They sicken of the calm, that know the storm."
  4. Well, you know what they say, the squeeky wheel gets the grease. or...The vocal minority has a greater power to affect change on the issues they deem necessary to devote the time, energy and resources to than others who can not or are not willing to devote an equal amount of resources. It may be frivolous to change a name because a small percentage finds it offensive, but if there was an equal movement and outcry to keep the name, it might have stayed. 5. Oh hell, so....many...clikies.....I just blew an hour and a half of what would normally be productive work time to keep up with all the argumants and clickable links. Grendel Khan-The Official DZ.Com Newbie Forum Nuisance "They sicken of the calm, that know the storm."
  6. They're probably changing the name for business reasons after they realized that Mexicans will likely make up a large part of the fan base since Americans don't have much interest in the sport...I doubt they would take that measure if Houston was to name a hockey team after the year 1836. DING DING DING! We have a winner folks. Soccer teams are still businesses too, and there may be no more sure fire way to sink a business than pissing off your key demographic. The MLS has been limping along for almosta decade now, and I'm sure the majority of people who would pay to go watch the MLS in Houston are latinos. It may not be right, it may be ridiculous, but why should the team owner torque off paying customers just to make a point? 7. "Terrorists, your game is through, cuz now you have to answer to...America, FUCK YEAH! Back again to save the mother fuckin day, yeah! America, FUCK YEAH! Freedom is the only way, yeah." Grendel Khan-The Official DZ.Com Newbie Forum Nuisance "They sicken of the calm, that know the storm."
  8. For real!!! The problem is they reduce writing to some sort of formulaic crap that has no soul and judge you on how neatly you stay within their stupid little boundaries. For me, writing is about risk, not boundaries. I'm afraid all you can do is just suck it up and give them what they want to see. Walt I totally agree, forcing writers to contain themselves to certain mandated "styles" and "formats" kills creativity and independant thought. Unless you're working in a tech writing sort of field, you should be encouraged to stretch the boundaries of the imagination. Maybe thats why a strange proportion of great writers are half insane, they had to sit through brain dead comp courses and their brains revolted. 9. Whoo Hoo! the B-Side wins again! Oops....I mean....uhhhh....yeah, no I really meant it. Hooray for Bush taking care of the oil business! The only reason i can afford to skydive is because of the energy company i work for, and it' sabout time to stand up for the little guy....I mean, stand up for the huge multi-national energy conglomerate. 10. The problem that a lot of people here in TX have with Sheehan is that she is not "openely dissenting" for any cause other than her own. She is a media hound who would rather waste months of her life sitting outside Bush's ranch in front of CNNs cameras than actually pushing for any realistic change. If she does get her meeting with Bush, then what? He will give her the same cookie cutter rhetoric that he shovels on the rest of us and send her on her merry way. Sheehan isn't an activist or a radical, she is a media whore making her name on the back of a dead soldier. 11. A lot of SUVs are not gas guzzlers. A lot of non SUVs are gas guzzlers. A lot of family minivans get the same mileage as similar sized SUVs, and many people with only 1 or 2 kids get minivans when a small sedan would serve well. They are not criticized because everyone knows that people don't get minivans to boost their ego. People that buy SUVs often like the image that the vehicle provides, so that is judged bad. I am so tired of SUVs being singled out as inefficient. What about pickups owned by people that almost never use the bed, or powerful luxury cars, or powerful sports cars? Whoa, where did the SUV lobbyists come from? Don't take my post so liteerally. I was not impugning the almighty SUV, the point was that end consumers refuse to give up on the fossil fuel consuming luxuries which means enrgy companies will be reticent in turning to new power sources. I apologize for hurting your feelings, SUV's do get a bad rap from the media. Everytime I hear someone talk about SUV's terrible gas milage it is not only stereotyplical, but rascist to those of us who chose to drive them and then justify it by saying mini-vans and pick ups are just as bad, right? Grendel Khan-The Official DZ.Com Newbie Forum Nuisance "They sicken of the calm, that know the storm."
  12. Why would energy companies trying to make a fat profit margin want to switch to alternative energy when there are thousands of people who daily buy themselves a new SUV? The energy trade is like the drug trade, as long as there is demand there will be supply. Grendel Khan-The Official DZ.Com Newbie Forum Nuisance "They sicken of the calm, that know the storm."
  13. A study conducted by a group at Harvards Kennedy School last year found that 76.5% of all facts are made up on the spot. Grendel Khan-The Official DZ.Com Newbie Forum Nuisance "They sicken of the calm, that know the storm."
  14. Traditionalists, be damned. Their plans have been on hold for a couple thousand years now, so we have to look for synergistic and fresh new ideas. It's time to think about Armegeddon out of the box. Israel is no longer hip or trendy, what we need is a location that celebrities will flock to and convince that 13-28 demographic that its the newest "in" thing. We need a location that will support millions of soldiers, the Holy Host, the Devil and his posse, and all the film crews and various press agencies, as well as the assorted spectators and hangers on. We need ample hotel and restaraunt presence, parking for all the above mentioned participants, nightly entertainment, an open, yet easily viewable battlefield, and possibly a skydiving center in the area for the weekend. wait...idea coming in....how about Vegas? It's the new city of Sin, it is surrounded by open desert, Los Angeles is a short hop away and there will be more than enough hotels and eateries to satisfy all the combatants (not to mention the nightly debauchery, wink wink). There is also a rather sizable AirForce base (Nellis, I think) which could support the battle. If you have other suggestions (try to avoid the middle east, that place is a logistical nightmare) please let th eplanning committee know, there is still plenty of time to plan thi sout. 15. Say word son, when can we expect that bomb to drop? All the fulumies at Hastings here in town will tell me is "later this spring". Is there a set release date yet? Grendel Khan-The Official DZ.Com Newbie Forum Nuisance "They sicken of the calm, that know the storm."
