  1. I have to chime in about the fake EVP thing and how it makes 'good tv'. I can tell you, as a friend of two key members of TAPS, that nothing that they show on their show is faked. In fact, it's quite the opposite. They often de-bunk pieces of evidence that the ordinary person, or I guess I should say the ordinary person that wants to believe, would call a paranormal experience. If you actually follow the show, you'd realize that a lot of the time, they leave a location after calling it NOT haunted. It takes a lot for them to actually label a location as haunted. Just had to chime in about it. Those guys are the real deal as far as wanting to get to the truth. Making good tv, as much as most people would think, is not what their primary concern is. They perform a lot of investigations outside of the show and risking their reputation is a real concern. I DO agree that evps can be easily faked, though. I'm just saying that TAPS wouldn't do so just for the sake of 'good tv'. bodyflight.net, I think it's intriguing that you can actually feel spirits and whatnot. Very cool. I don't know if I could live in a location knowing that messed up events happened in the past. Just knowing that the guy who built our house had is mother pass away in the house next to ours is a little creepy.
  2. Well, apparently everyone has what they want. The OP didn't read the SIM, it seems, and didn't know guidelines already exist. You are happy with guidelines and no BSR. So am I. We are all happy.

    Just because

Wow, what a guy! I'm sure you deserved them. BTW.. how often do you change your avatar?

    Pwned?!

Ok, I thought it was the same thing as owned but why the hell do they spell it pwned? I'm totally down with internet lingo but usually they make words to make it quicker to type i.e. LOL. To use a p instead of o is just.. stupid. Edit to add: I didn't get to reply fast enough. So it pretty much just derived from mis-spelling owned by typing it too fast. Strange..
  5. If I was still sober after paying $700.. I would be might pissed off. I went to the store and bought a couple 24oz Sam Adam's a while ago. Total tab = $6. I'm feeling pretty good right about now.

    Pwned?!

That was pretty hilarious. Still, have to agree with the dude in the video.. wtf does pwned mean?

    Pwned?!

Ok, I see all over the place this word.. 'pwned'. "Watch my friend get pwned on his skateboard". It's all over youtube. Does the world just now know how to spell 'owned'? Or does pwned mean something else? This has been bothering me for the longest time!

    Beer?

Pretty good list, but you left out Sam Adams. Boston Lager, Sam Light and seasonal varieties are also all acceptable!
  9. Pretty lame, Bill. Why is that lame? That's what you've been doing and saying for this whole thread! I guess what you've been saying is pretty lame, too.
  10. To me, it sounds like you are talking about how much more flare your smaller Turbo ZX has compared to the bigger one. You are getting more flare because you are coming in faster. Speed = lift. The faster you go, the more flaring power you are going to have. I highly doubt what you are talking about has anything to do with the condition of the fabric. The lines, possibly, but I don't think it's the fabric.
  11. Awesome. Thanks for the information! So glad I didn't lose all of my data.
  12. Great quote. Good luck with your 135. You're now crossing into high performance. Anything below a 150 is considered high performance. Add the 1.52WL on top of that.. and do the math.
  13. Wow, I thought I was gonna read he got is C license Too bad, but hopefully he'll get through it!
  14. I would also love to go to Eastern State. If that doesn't confirm my suspicions, I don't know if anything will!
  15. YES! Why are words being put into my mouth? I never said anything about banning shit, just having more guidelines. I love wingsuits. I love swooping. I love big ways. I love skydiving, all together. And I'm 22 years old. I never said I wanted to ban anything.
  16. Well, not sure what kind of rig it is, but looks like it's in AWESOME shape!
  17. Yeah, no kidding there. Luckily most of my jumps were at my home DZ. I know the numbers are on point.. as in, I know how many jumps I have. Looks like I'll just have to guess on the logbook!
  18. Subject pretty much says it all. My Neptune has been in my car for months. Last night, after I had been thinking "I should probably write these jumps down".. I went outside to check and alas, my Neptune had a dead battery. 230 jumps, not a single one logged, and now my battery is dead. Will it be gone (please say no!!) after I install a new battery? MY stupid mistake. I'm so lazy about logging.. shame on me.
  19. No downside at all. Like a previous poster (davelepka maybe?) said.. if anything, we have nothing to lose by giving it a try. And besides, every single one of us is an extreme risk taker. We throw ourselves out of planes, only to be (hopefully) saved by a bunch of lines and nylon. How much more extreme do you want? There's gotta be a line drawn somewhere. Am I against taking things on a more personal level? Absolutely not. Individual progression is fine. But there is a fine line that lies there, or that needs to be lying there I guess I should say.
  20. Sure do. A couple of the guys on Ghost Hunters are friends of mine. I've heard some of their stories and they are just too weird to not believe. Plus, I've had a couple really strange things happen around me.
  21. But where's the fun in that? We won't get to listen to the newbies who admittingly call themselves risky and gloating about it, and the occasional experienced jumper with the same skewed opinions on the subject. I'd rather gripe for now.
  22. Well, I fall into that bracket. I guess I should stop skydiving. It's each person's decision to take as much risk as they want. However, it is my opinion that there should be some guidelines, or prerequisites when it comes to canopy size. Jump numbers, as well as currency, should be taken into effect. Again, IMO. I'm not trying to change your mind about anything. I do, however, stand my ground that wingloadings need to be carefully observed, especially when it comes to new skydivers. They simply do not need the added stress and complications on top of what they are already dealing with. Common sense takes over any 'necessary' data when it comes to drawing that conclusion.
  23. Sweet video, Brian. I would've been pissing myself trying to drive over there. It's bad enough driving in the states when everything isn't backwards!
  24. There are EXCELLENT data on fatalities extending back decades. If there is a real problem it will be apparent there. Is it not possible.. that the reason there are not hundreds of incidents involving low timers on highly loaded canopies is simply because (as was pointed out in another thread) 9 out of 10 low timers do actually listen to advice to stay conservative? That can't possibly be why. There aren't enough statistics, pie charts and graphs to support that statement... oh and slide shows. None of those, either. If there were a problem you would have no difficulty in proving it from the data that already exist. Denigrating the value of statistics in epidemiology (which is what this is) is the hallmark of someone that doesn't have a valid case. I'm just surprised no-one has come up with "lies, damned lies, and statistics" yet I really don't think that you are understanding what I am trying to get across. There IS data that a smaller canopy goes faster. There IS data that a faster canopy means less room for error. And there IS data that would suggest that less room for error is NOT something that someone new to the sport needs. Do I have the time to compile it all into a nice pie chart for you? No, and I really could care less to do that. When a jumper is still trying to get over the 'holy shit' factor that jumping out of a plane, in and of itself, gives to them.. the last thing they need is to have that same 'holy shit' factor when they are under their hot rod of a canopy, all while trying to land in the same spot as the 20 other people that are in the air with them.
