  1. Did I kick him in the head or did he slap me in the foot??? G. Jones "Why don't they have a light bulb that only shines on things that are worth looking at?"
  2. After drinking Sam Adams, Spaten, Becks, and the like for so long, domestic beer just will not do. Tastes like Mexican stud horse piss with the foam farted off! Besides, if you don't have time to eat a good meal, a heavy bodied beer has the 3 basic food groups in it (barley, malt and hops)! G. Jones "Why don't they have a light bulb that only shines on things that are worth looking at?"
  3. You're all a bunch'a cheap sluts.....Ya make me proud Baby!!!! By the way, how much?????? G. Jones "Why don't they have a light bulb that only shines on things that are worth looking at?"

    Dear Fucker...

That was Fuckin hilarious!! G. Jones "Why don't they have a light bulb that only shines on things that are worth looking at?"
  5. My thanks to all who responded to this thread with your thoughts, ideas, and support in general. I thought you all might like to know that I've decided not to kill my son and dismember his body, or bury him alive in a huge ant hill...or drop him, still screaming, down an abandoned mine shaft....... or.......Sorry, got carried away for a minute there. All kidding aside, I love my son dearly and It's a bit hard for me to see him grow up so fast, and to watch him make some of the same mistakes that I made at that age. Sometimes I just want to grab him and shake him and ask him just what the hell he's doing. I do understand that we're both on a learning curve. It's his first time being a teenager, and my first time being the father of one. We'll learn together. Meanwhile, it has helped to know that every parent goes through this . Thanks G. Jones "Why don't they have a light bulb that only shines on things that are worth looking at?"
  6. 9 Becks, half a 5th of Jim Beam, no lunch or dinner and I still remember yesterday with perfect clarity and don't have a hangover. Can someone explain THIS to me? G. Jones "Why don't they have a light bulb that only shines on things that are worth looking at?"
  7. Nate, you are on the road to success. I left home very early and you tend to learn what you want and what is practical at a much earlier age. Don't fight it...Enjoy it and grow!!! When you take care of yourself and your responsibilities you earn respect! My problem is with a son who has no concept of being responsible for himself, yet wants to tell me how he will conduct himself. So far I have managed to keep from sending him to juvinile hall ( Whittenberg Hall here in Reno) although several authority figures here have recommended it as a wake-up call. I have hopes that he will wake up and realize that he is a child, but I doubt it. His age group is so much more irresponsible than mine ( and even less than our fathers). I have no problem sayin' " I'm Skeerd!" and I'm worried about the future of our nation. We're not the same nation of patriots we were even 50 years ago. WHAT THE FUCK WILL HAPPEN TO US!!!! G. Jones "Why don't they have a light bulb that only shines on things that are worth looking at?"
  8. Holy Shit !!! The curse is true, (AAAHHHHHHH!!!!) I had an asshole just like I was at 14! What the fuck is this about ??? He's to goddamn old to drown, people would ask questions (although the only people who would care are my mom and Dad)! How do you handle your child ( keeping in mind that I'm a 39 yr. old single father of a 14 yr. old son) ? I can only beat him so many hours out of the day, he wears me down. Betsy, your expertise now could mean the difference between life with parole and the chair. Any tips ??? ANYBODY??? I can't jump in prison. HEEEEEEELLLLPPP!!!!! G. Jones "Why don't they have a light bulb that only shines on things that are worth looking at?"
  9. You are following a path that is dear to me indeed! I quit highschool when I was young to live with my girlfriend. Only later did I return for 2 yrs at a J.C. ( no, damnit...not Jesus Christ) for Medical, and discover that my true passion was for history. I never got a formal ed. in history, only what I have learned through my perseverance, and my membership in an organization that preserves California and Nevada mining history. I am indeed envious of your major! If I could do EVERYTHING over again, I would choose the path you are travelling, BE PROUD OF YOUR MAJOR!!! "those who do not remember the past are condemded to repeat it !!" G. Jones "Why don't they have a light bulb that only shines on things that are worth looking at?"
  10. Just out of curiosity Dave, what's your major in college? I know this is a bit off track, but I'm curious...You seem like an intelligent, informed individual ( and how the hell can I get my son to emulate you?). j/k, he's only 14, and bad as I hate to admit it it'll be a few more years before he has to be responsible for anything. G. Jones "Why don't they have a light bulb that only shines on things that are worth looking at?"
  11. Dave, I can relate buddy. Anytime my bodyfat gets over 80 % I cutout the Dominos for a week or so. G. Jones "Why don't they have a light bulb that only shines on things that are worth looking at?"
  12. Screw the fall rate! I'm drinkin Jim Beam (black label) and Becks tonight. With any luck I won't remember today when I have to go back to work tommorrow. Advice: Don't ever become a Caterpillar mechanic...and if you are tempted, CUT YOUR HANDS OFF!! G. Jones "Why don't they have a light bulb that only shines on things that are worth looking at?"
  13. You have to be very careful when lying to a healthcare professional about how an injury occured. With a traumatic injury one of the first things that's considered following a primary and secondary patient survey is the mechanism of injury. I mention this for two reasons. First, if you tell the good Dr. that you caused that Colles fracture (fractured Radius/Ulna with a distinctive "silver spoon" deformity) by tripping over a curb at Mcdonalds he will probably believe you because the injury is consistent with that mechanism of injury. The danger in this is that the medical personnel may fail to look for additional injuries which may be associated with the real mechanism of injury ( say for instance,a downwind landing with a resultant face skid that left your face intact cosmetically, but with a whiplash from your meat plow impression). Second, if your insurance frowns on covering injuries from extreme sports (mine will, but they don't like it...they think we shouldn't be having fun to begin with!), then you need to be realistic about what kind of trauma may have caused your injury (i.e., don't tell the Dr. you dislocated your ankle by lifting a 200 lb package the UPS man left in front of your door.) Most importantly, do not ever...EVER... lie about how a very serious injury was sustained by yourself or someone who is unconcious and can't speak for themselves. Your (or their) recovery may depend on it. G. Jones "Why don't they have a light bulb that only shines on things that are worth looking at?"
  14. Well, I suppose Lummy was right when he told me that he heard Skydive Lake Tahoe closed. I contacted the DZ's (former) manager last week and was told that the DZO's had decided not to re-open this summer. The only reason I was given is that they had "had enough of DZ ownership". I was also told that another jump operation will be opening at the same location (Nervino airport in Beckwourth,CA) but the word at this time is that it will be a tandem mill with no jumps to be had for experienced skydivers or students. SLT was a small DZ with a relaxed atmosphere, a great staff, and a wonderful group of regulars who quickly made new jumpers feel they were part of the family. My thanks to Ken Jobsky, Miles D., Jeff Provenzano, Jeff B.,Kama Mountz, and Alaska Jon for a great summer last year! Looks like I'll be driving 3 hours each way (instead of 30 min.) to jump this summer. On the positive side though, I've been meaning to get over to Davis and Lodi............ G. 15. I came in on this a little late, but I'm going to put in my 2 cents worth anyway. First off, I agree that G.W. is mixing his politics with religion. But then, he has the same right as every one of us to do that.It just happens that he is in a much more influential position than any of us. Can anyone of us honestly say that our personal belief system doesn't bias decisions that we make every day?I don't think that would (or should!) change about any of us even if we were to become President today. That's a small part of what makes us all unique individuals. Second off, I think that it's ALL Fukkered up that we as a society aren't allowed to take full advantage of stem cell research to help those with damaged spinal cords, or Alzheimers diesease, or any number of conditions that afflict people around the globe! I don't have any answers for this dilemma, but these are some of my thoughts. Quade, great topic. I can see it has inspired much debate and hopefully it will stimulate the thought process in some people enough to take action on it, regardless of their position (anybody thinking of their congressman about now?). Third (and last) off, Betsy: What the hell is wrong with running around saying "Boobies"!? Or thinking about them... or looking at them...... or playing with them................. G. Jones "Why don't they have a light bulb that only shines on things that are worth looking at?"
  16. Since a previous thread started a good discussion, I would like to carry it a bit further. Of Javelin, Wings, and Infinity which container do you like most, and why? G. Jones "Why don't they have a light bulb that only shines on things that are worth looking at?"
  17. Hi Michele, I'm sorry to hear that you had such a rotten day. Personally, I can relate to the Cosmic shithammer theory. I'm a Catterpillar equipment mechanic, and when the Cosmic shithammer falls at the shop, it tends to be the same type of chaos that you describe (from the office personnel to the field mechanics). Sometimes the only way a day will get better is to get over. So run yourself a hot bubblebath, relax, have a glass of wine and forget about today (thinking about it will only keep you tense). I promise... tommorrow will be a better day. ( I speak from experience, trust me on this!) Relax and BREATHE... Greg G. 18. Can yooou say "Passive-Aggressive"? Great poem! I remember hearing a similar version years ago that was used as a cadence by some friends in the 82nd Airborne. It went like this: A yellow bird with a yellow bill landed on my window sill. I coaxed him in with crumbs of bread, then I crushed his F***ing head! And by the way, morning is my favorite time of the day. I don't always have an easy time getting out of bed, but if I sleep past 7am (I'm usually up by 5:30 or 6:00am) or stay up past about 10 pm (even if I'm not partying) I pretty much feel like shit all day. I find the older I get, the more this is true. G. Jones "Why don't they have a light bulb that only shines on things that are worth looking at?"
  19. I agree with Lisa. I live about 35 min. from the DZ and DST gives me time to get in a jump or two after work on a weekday. It wouldn't break my heart to have DST year-round! G. Jones "Why don't they have a light bulb that only shines on things that are worth looking at?"
  20. Lummy, that may have been me that you are thinking of @ Skydive Lake Tahoe. We're at 5k ASL, and the openings and the flare are both much quicker here (in my limited experience) than when I jumped @ Perris (about 1.5k ASL). The Oxy is really not a big deal as most jump planes operating at this kind of altitude have an onboard system. Mostly the smokers will notice a difference in being a little short of breath, even w/ the happy gas! Honestly though, I really enjoyed the 12.5k jumps @ Perris a LOT since we didn't have to go on oxygen. G. ZP vs. F-111

Of the following canopies; Triathlon, Spectre, Sabre2, Safire, and Hornet, which are zp and which are f-111? What are the pros and cons of the two materials? G. Jones "Most people don't know what they're doing, and a lot of them are really good at it!"- George Carlin

    stop me!

I should be back in Riverside in June or July, and I'll e-mail you or stop by the store, I would love to have someone to jump with there! Lummy, yup, you can see the lake on the ride up. Tahoe is about 14 miles south of Truckee on 89. Skydive Lake Tahoe is north of Reno, 395 north to hwy 70, south on 70 about 20 miles and you'll see Nervino airport on the right side. That's us. The DZ only closes for the winter, it just gets way to cold and miserable at altitude (and ground level, for that matter) to jump during winter. We open again the first weekend in May, weather permitting. And Rhino, in regard to your question, the flare is much quicker here. G. Jones "It's time to start slapping people...."

    stop me!

I jump at skydive lake tahoe, just across the state line in Beckwourth CA.. Great bunch of people there, but colder than a well diggers ass at 18000' MSL in late october! Weather-wise, I like Perris much better, kinda intimidating though, coming from such a small DZ. G.Jones "It's time to start slapping people...."

Lummy, I'm out of beer too. I didn't make it to the grocery store today. If I go now I'll have to walk, it's not safe for me to drive with blood in my alcohol stream. G. Jones "It's time to start slapping people...."
