    Finally.....

I finally sent my paperwork for my A-License today. It only took me 6 months from qualifying to actually sending it in to get my number. I bet I will be in 15,000s for sure.
  3. I'm John Black and I skydive. Does that count?

    The Economy

Enrongate has made my job a bit tougher since I manage our pension and 401k plans. About a month before the Enron news hit the wires we had reviewed our company stock as an election in our 401k because of the Lucent stuff. Luckily we don't match in the company stock. I feel so bad for the employees of Enron who got screw by the execs. But it seems every couple of years a group of arrogant execs who think they understand something so much better than the rest of the world end up being proven they were wrong. They should take the profits the execs made on their stock trades, while the general employee population was locked out of their 401k plan and divide it up for the employees. Mr Lay is an arrogant piece of crap.
  5. I'm surprised one asked about the ATB...hmmmmm. Maybe the US has finally realized good ole Jane for what she is.
  6. You can bet your ass that is what is going on. How about the exodus from Somolia of terrorist. They are running scared and with good reason.

  8. I was just out of basic and traveling through Washington DC in uniform. A couple of us went to visit the Vietnam War Memorial and pay our respects. It was very emotional since my father served two tours of duty over there, one in 66/67 with the 7th Cav and then the second in 70/71 with the 101st, and was a career sgt.(which meant I was a career dependent). We were standing there and the way people were looking at us was very scary, there was a look that we were next when all of the sudden this older guy walks up and says "thanks" and walks away. Freeflir is so right about how much something so simple can mean so very much and for so long. Thank you all.
  9. This was sent to me via email and I thought that I would share it with you folks. Ann is one of the few! .....a letter from a Vet's wife Richard, (my husband), never really talked a lot about his time in Viet Nam other than he had been shot by a sniper. However, he had a rather grainy, 8 x 10 black & white photo he had taken at a USO show of Ann Margaret with Bob Hope in the background that was one of his treasures. A few years ago, Ann Margaret was doing a book signing at a local bookstore. Richard wanted to see if he could get her to sign the treasured photo so he arrived at the bookstore at 12 o'clock for the 7:30 signing. When I got there after work, the line went all the way around the bookstore, circled the parking lot, and disappeared behind a parking garage. Before her appearance, bookstore employees announced that she would sign only her book and no memorabilia would be permitted. Richard was disappointed, but wanted to show her the photo and let her know how much those shows meant to lonely GI's so far from home. Ann Margaret came out looking as beautiful as ever and, as 2nd in line, it was soon Richard's turn. He presented the book for her signature and then took out the photo. When he did, there were many shouts from the employees that she would not sign it. Richard said, "I understand. I just wanted her to see it". She took one look at the photo, tears welled up in her eyes and she said, "This is one of my gentlemen from Viet Nam and I most certainly will sign his photo. I know what these men did for their country and I always have time for "my gentlemen". With that, she pulled Richard across the table and planted a big kiss on him. She then made quite a to do about the bravery of the young men she met over the years, how much she admired them, and how much she appreciated them. There weren't too many dry eyes among those close enough to hear. She then posed for pictures and acted as if he was the only one there. Later at dinner, Richard was very quiet. When I asked if he'd like to talk about it, my big strong husband broke down in tears. "That's the first time anyone ever thanked me for my time in the Army", he said. Richard, like many others, came home to people who spit on him and shouted ugly things at him. That night was a turning point for him. He walked a little straighter and, for the first time in years, was proud to have been a Vet. I'll never forget Ann Margaret for her graciousness and how much that small act of kindness meant to my husband. I now make it a point to say Thank You to every person I come across who served in our Armed Forces. Freedom does not come cheap and I am grateful for all those who have served their country. If you'd like to pass on this story, feel free to do so. Perhaps it will help others to become aware of how important it is to acknowledge the contribution our service people make
  10. I got burned the same way but for late charges. I got a notice from BB showing the $3 charge and I was pissed-off that they could just do that without contacting me. I was mainly pissed off about the principal of the thing. BB told me that after 30 days they have the right, as per the membership agreement, to charge overdue fees. They hit the account on the 25th day which made me even more pissed-off. Well, they got theirs because after I got off the phone I check the notice again and noticed that the account number didn't match any of my current account numbers. It was from an account that was closed out years ago, so screw them. There is a class action suit against relating to the way BB charges late fees. Screw them!
  11. Sound like a good idea but, in reality it would be like going to a Ted Nugent concert. All the flying females are taken. DAMN IT! No I'm not bitter not even a little. LOL

  13. I heard it was in LA. A second jumper was still on the loose. LOL
  14. Here a bit of newbie irony. On the ride to alt on my second tandem, my JM starts talking to this young guy next to us. This young guy tells him he's taking this student up for an AFP jump. I remember thinking "Gosh, I hope I don't get that kid as an instructor. He does not look like he is old enough to that many jumps." Well, I go back to the DZ a week or two later to do my first AFP jump and who is my instructor, you guess it the same young kid. Turned out to the best thing that could have happen to me. He was an awesome instructor, he made me feel super comfortable with the jump and I felt very prepared. So I get home after jumping and decide to do a little research because I was so wrong about jumping with this "kid" (ya right, I think I was the kid up there). The Irony now, the instructor was none other than Rook Nelson. I felt like such a moron. Lessons learned: 1. Don't judge a book by its cover. (Something I have always said and tried to live by, oops) 2. Experience counts more than age.
  15. Pad your resume.....remember when you worked on that IBM project for 3mths and that government project you intern atfor 5mths. Its all marketing - WORLD'S GREATEST!!!! Not that I have ever done that.
  16. Dove - Thats too funny. I was reading the thread and saw your thumbnail (nice headdown) and thought "Wow, now thats a cutie but she's taken for sure". Sorry to hear about the news (not really, I kind of like the idea of another freeflyin' female on the loose. LOL I am sure you are better off free and flying.
  17. Now that is strange I had a dream I had a hard landing while I was downing two bottles of Beam. Wow! DODODODODODO!
  18. My Mom has the best one. She tells them she has the runs and is about to shit herself, then she asks if they can follow her to the next exit and gas station restroom. And give her the ticket after she takes care of her business in the can. Gross but it works!
  19. SkyMedic: You do know that many Americans have always felt admiration and thanks for the work you and all other emergency workers have been doing for years. Maybe at this point in time people just really want you to know that they are thankful for your sacrifices. You know, like a couple that has been married for years, the husband gets used to his wife being around all the time and forgets to tell her I love you. I had to sit down and think about this issue on Vets-Day. My father is buried in a military cemetery which seems to forgotten about because it was on a small Army base which was closed a couple of years ago. Any way to make a longer story shorter I showed up just after 11:00 and low and behold there are a bunch of people here. I was there just months before for Memorial Day and there wasn't anybody around. Just recently I saw a poll which asked if you are more patriotic since 9/11. My answer was of course not I have always been an American! So I hear where you are coming from but maybe they have always been American too.
  20. GO ARMY !!!! Nat, fly rotary-wing in the Army. Sitting in the front seat of an attack helicopter flying NOE(nap of the earth) is a sweet rush, plus they blow shit up. Also less military extra shit as an Warrant Officer.
  21. I have a connection problem during RW. I don't back slide, I actually crash-thru even on a simple 2-way. As I get close to linking up I end up losing alt. and crashing through my target. Any ideas as what I am doing incorrectly and how I can correct it?
