  1. Funny, isn't that how you guys created OBL?
  2. The answer to that quesitoin is driven by the type of society.
  3. That is the underlying difficulty of effective communications. What is effective for one person is not effective for the other. This is along the lines of, why doesn't everybody like the colour blue......
  4. yeah, your next point is more along the lines of what I was trying to say. In the drunks case, it doesn't mean he is absolved from any resposibility, just means I carry some of it as well. I, btw, only agree with this concept when it involved an illness. The difficulty becomes deciding when something is considered an illness and "proving" that this illness is present.
  5. I think it does. If I would know that my wife has severe post-partum depression comined with other mental illnesses, I would not leave her alone with my son. If I have an alcoholic in my house, and I know he will drink whatever he can find. I do carry some of the blame for his actions. I think some if this comes down to reasonable expectations. Personally, I believe that those who are ill should not be held to the same standards as those who are not ill. Unfortunately, mental diseases are very much misunderstood and stigmatized by society. I think the treatment of those who are ill says alot about society. Not everybody can be held responsible for their actions.
  6. If it is your house and you have offered him the drink....you bet your bottom dollar you will be held liable.
  7. Ron, What if a blind person crosses the street at a pedestrian crossing, but since he can't see crosses at a red light.....Would you be in favour if giving this person a ticket?
  8. I have just been sitting here shaking my head. Unbelievable. I am sorry Kevin. Unreal.
  9. I'll answer for my Canadian friend, eventhough he is from Quebec. It was the set-up for his joke.
  10. I think the problem is too many lawyers working on no-cure-no-fee basis.
  11. I think the issue is that several people opposed to the patriot Act have in some way predicted a scenario like this. Proponents of the Act countered that such would not happen. Now we are in a situation of the proponents saying, well it should not happent his way and the opponents saying, see told you so. It is unfortunate that the politicians did not foresee something like this happening, it has happened with many similar laws and regulations before.
  12. Uhmm, we are comparing messages posted to an online message board, not editorials....
  13. Michele, I know. My comments weren't really aimed at you. Just trying to point out that when people get emotional they post things that are in really poor taste. Some times it even happens without the emotions However, i think it is wise for all of us to remember that it happens on both sides, like you were pointing out.
  14. Let's not forget the Canadian sniper who holds the record with a confirmed kill at 2,657 yards in Afghanistan.
  15. Don't kid yourself, they are in europe for the money and the money alone. Two reasons: 1. they make more playing in Europe than not playing in the NHL 2. ONly way to stay in game shape so they can make as much as possible when the NHL starts up again. Canada now holds all major international hockey titles. No other nation has ever done that. Go Canada Go
  16. Like being sentenced to 50 years in jail for stealing $153 worth of videos for your children to watch? Just because it was your third strike.
  17. I don't see anything worse in the messages posted there than some of the messages posted on dropzone.com. Their version of: nuke them and turn it into a big glass parking lot.
  18. Exactly, this is exactly what the law was intended to do. Go after those who interfere with mass transportation. Unfortunately this poor soul was not a terrorist, but he did break the law. Do the crime, you have to do the time. I am sure he will agree that America has not given up any freedoms since 9/11 and consequent legislation. On top of that he lied to a federal agent.....a federal agent no less.
  19. Thanks, that was more the information I was looking for.
  20. pretty simple to me. If a teacher is indicted of child molestation we remove him from the class room until the court case is over. If a politician gets indicted with a fraud charge or any criminal charge, we remove him from his office until the court case is over. Has nothing to do with innocent until proven guilty.
