  1. no you <insert whatever you wish here>, i am giving you an entertainment equivalent that you asked for. then you moved the goalposts again. i expect it, so it's no surprise. see how i avoided insulting anyone?
  2. anyone who can claim to have not changed their way of thinking, or their opinions on anything, for 19 years is in one hell of a shape. not a good one, but by all means, wear this a badge of pride. it is an achievement alright, just not in the way you think it is. i'll try to say another prayer for you. i do hate wasting my breath though.
  3. ok, it would be like 'rosanne' getting cancelled because of remarks supporting trump. close enough for you?
  4. except it's not just q anons that believe them, i believe all three of them, except they are applied to the gop. the gop is known for projection, so why would they not be the ones in #1? as for #2, maybe, maybe not. it is definitely needed, but i would hesitate to ask for it as the corporations would be the ones to choose for us, and convince us with propaganda, much as they are doing now with lobbyists and purchasing politicians on both sides. #3 for sure, except the ones claiming to be patriots are the enemies, not patriots. they are very misguided for sure, and i fear for the direction our country is headed, much like a runaway freight train with nothing that can be done to stop it except derail the train. good luck with that.
  5. maybe i'm just missing the point, but i find it telling that in this day and age there are some folks who are arguing this point when the obvious answer was pointed out in the hearing: it depends on context. bill has put a fine example proving this, as have several others. i find it difficult to believe that some could have the audacity to argue the point, unless trolling or stupid as hell. as i have met none of you, i cannot say which it is for sure, but i suspect trolling. the propaganda is good to get so many folks. i just wish some idiots weren't so close minded and were open to other perspectives. and i am included in this as well, i am not immune to propaganda, but am not an idiot in that i can acknowledge it when pointed out and have an open mind that can change when needed. it makes me sad to think of how many think this way.
  6. this is interesting, as it seems to be the norm at my small 182 dz in wv(safety culture). of course, our landing area is only about 300' wide and that includes the runway, and of course the prevailing wind direction comes straight off the river and blows over the tree line causing massive rotors most of the time and normally a cross wind landing. they say that when our students learn how to land here they can jump anywhere, since our whole landing area is the size of most d license areas on bigger dropzones. i also started jumping back when that cowboy attitude was prevalent. back before tandems were the norm and most folks came to do a static line jump. it doesn't seem to be that way any more, at least most of the time. it is perfectly normal for them to stop jumping completely when the winds pick up. most of us watch the treetops to determine when to stop jumping. i don't care how fast it blows, or which direction it is coming from, if the treetops are acting funky, it's time to take a break. i like that safety is a bigger part of jumping now than it was when i started, even though i never felt unsafe at all. i've been blessed with good instructors and folks at the dz who care about safety.
  7. what doesn't add up is your continued questioning of it. the gap is in your mind, and it shows. there are such things as privacy, and there are still those of us who cherish and respect it. then you have folks such as yourself who thrive and revel in hate and divisiveness. i'll say a prayer for you. you need to re-examine your views, but that's your business and not mine. see how easy that is?
  8. i didn't know how close i was until i read the discharge papers. i had visions and shit. still processing it. i was almost possessed afterwards until i wrote it down, started the day i got out and didn't stop except to sleep. you can read it if you want, just drop an email to tim at kitswv.com and i'll attach it and send it back. one hell of a journey i'll never forget. it changed me.
  9. sorry for your loss. i almost died sunday. went septic after surgery. 3 days in icu and a walk with Angels while holding the rosary saved me.
  10. i'll tell you right now that it the perfect time to get this into the sim. next time you rewrite it, not this time. if you wait, it will miss that one too things like this don't happen in a month, or two. they take years sometimes to get all the relevant data and analyze it, then write it up. if you wait much longer, it will be a good thought you wish you had started sooner next time you write it up. one thing i would like to see is a better breakdown of landings. i have about 150 jumps now but have been having trouble landing a zero p canopy on a 1:1 wl since downsizing. most of it is lack of currency and not doing it 4-5 times a day for a bit. i bought brian's book about parachutes and as i was reading the landing part, i had the 'aha' moment when i realized that i had been landing a round my entire jumping career so to speak. eyes on the horizon works best for rounds, and makes it hard as hell to land a square, but when you use bug canopies that are forgiving, it works and you stand them up anyway. downsize a bit and you have a challenge. i haven't looked recently, but i think it could use a little clarification for folks like me coming in with bad habits from the army. i don't recall if i have just missed that part, and that may be the case. anyway, good luck with it.
  11. they let them go to hell, right where they need to be.
  12. stay safe. rpg's and law's can take out a track more easily than destroy a tank. aim for the wheels and tracks with those type of weapons. insurgents are extremely hard to defend against. concertina wire and barbed wire make great obstacles. if you can get a copy of fm 5-34 it has all sorts of illustrations and formulas for how much explosives to use, what type, and where to put it on different things to blow them up. how to create obstacles and defensive positions as well. i found out i can't put a link to it since it has restricted distribution, but it is all over the internet. if i were 20 years younger i'd be over there helping on the ground. be careful. glory to ukraine.
  13. damn double posting bullshit...
  14. thousands of russians protesting in the streets and getting arrested would disagree with you on that.
  15. all we really have to do is impose complete oil and gas embargoes on russia and stick to it. gas prices go up a little and puddin' is back inside his borders by next weekend, then overthrown a few weeks later.
  16. whether that is the reason for them or not the fact remains that having one fire is a somewhat rare event, and being unconscious when it happens is more rare still, while not having a riser cover release on one or both sides while unconscious is yet even more rare. even so, i would like to wait and see what happens and if there is a fix for the issue that was raised. if it saves one life it's worth it, but at the same time i don't think it has been a factor that i recall hearing about in any fatality. i'm not concerned with ulterior motives either, we all have them most of the time. when it comes down to it, the only reason i got an aad was so i could travel around and jump anywhere. turns out that the universe decided to throw covid out there right afterwards though as a sort of reminder that i'm not traveling anywhere just yet though.
  17. i would since it rarely happens. even if it were common being unconscious and having only one riser cover release is not. if you still think it is common to have that happen, show me some statistics that cover it. i know i have not heard of one all last year, and even one per year could be considered uncommon considering how many jumps are made. and of course it is like all things that are dangerous, even if it happens once every 50 years it sucks when you're the once. but not enough that it requires anything special to be done to prevent that one time. maybe we should all just wait and see what becomes of this accusation rather than argue about the motives of the finders. i recall that happening last time and it turned out they were right. they may be right again and they just may save a life.
  18. so you're saying that the tso applies even after changing equipment? i thought they had to get a new tso if they change something. interesting. you could pick apart one-offs and exceptions all day long and come up with any number of situations where something may or may not work as intended. that doesn't make any of them likely or valid reasons to change anything.
  19. she's 55, so...and did you seem emenim's response courtesy of colbert? funny as hell. when you hear folks complaining about him taking a knee, during the halftime show, you can rest assured it was never about the knee. straight up racism/
  20. for who? with over 300 million people in the us alone i doubt anyone could make all of them happy at once. my s.o. was so stoked to watch the show that we sat with the tv on mute the whole game until it came on. that was because neither of us watch football, hell i had a good book. the show was great, and i found out that it turns out the nfl did not ask emenim to not take a knee during practice, that was a rumor spread by someone. or at least the nfl rep that wrote the comment i read said they had watched the practice all week and he did it every time.
  21. another thing that seems to be missing here is the similarity between this thread and the one about the tandem rigs. started very similarly, with an accusation from a french jumper, then got argued about and denied for a while until it turned out they were right and got a service bulletin or whatever happened. maybe we should not be so quick to just dismiss things like this and wait and see if it happens again before trashing the folks finding this shit. maybe we need to take one or two of those national director spots that someone is asking to go away and pay someone to find flaws in equipment like the french are doing. it seems to be working for them so far.
  22. yeah, i wonder why folks applaud at the end of the anthem also, but that is more because i used to be surprised that everyone acts like the flag code doesn't exist and that you're not supposed to applaud afterwards, but you're also not supposed to use the flag as a bikini, so... on a side note, i loved the part where emenim took a knee. that was worth stopping my book and unmuting the tv when the s.o. wanted to watch halftime. i love pepsi, and this just made it all the better, even though it can take months to go through a six pack.
  23. i would have to respectfully disagree. they may not be able to enforce any action but they can damned well make something happen, and if they can't ensure the safety of jumpers, why bother having it around? seems to me like there was a liaison i heard of with uspa and faa, someone who had our interests in mind, or something to that effect that i recall hearing about. been a while ago, so maybe not, but there should be.
