  1. I was a nervous student. Emily was there for my level 7, cheering me on in the landing area. She told me how she was terrified all the way though her AFF and she loved skydiving. I looked up to her as a skydiver and came to know her as a friend. She was an amazing person and always full of energy. Tip of the cougar hat, Em.
  2. I'm a jumper and have been for years. I became a helicopter pilot a year ago, and am close to my commercial rating. I want to be able to take my friends to jump altitude in a helicopter, but the only possibly jumpable helicopter available to me is the Schweizer 333, which is pretty wide. Does anyone have any experience with piloting the 333 for jumpers?
  3. I took the series 7 about 8 years ago, but I went to a securities training school, which helped immensely. I was told that any percentage you get above a passing grade counts against you in the real world, so don't study too hard. Good luck!
  4. Josh always had a smile and would answer all of my dumb questions without pointing out that they were, in fact, dumb questions. I can't believe he's gone. Thanks for everything, Josh.
  5. I think my favorite was a version of Battletech adapted to the GURPS system. I'd still be playing, but my weekends are taken up my much more important things now.
  6. I had two cutaways before my 100th jump. One was operator error (student mistake) and the other was packing error (I tied my right brake line in a knot.)
  7. I have a friend who's a rigger and had a cutaway with a rig equipped with a skyhook: His letter to relative workshop is about halfway down the page - Brady Kane. I know he has a LOT of faith in the skyhook, especially since his experience. http://www.relativeworkshop.com/myv_index.html (sorry, I don't know how to make a clicky)
  8. No bridge mix, but there is beer envolved. Cards and booze go together well in my family.
  9. I play a weekly game of bridge with friends and family. I have actually left the dropzone (gasp!) to play bridge on multiple occasions. I'm frequently asked "how old ARE you?" at the DZ because of my peculiar hobby.
  10. Congratulations! Is this the wind tunnel job? By the way, when are you going to get back in the air? -Luna
  11. I've got these wonderful wool socks my mom knit me for my birthday to keep my toes warm when the temp gets low.
  12. Rolling Stones Eagles Go-Gos Iron Maiden Radiohead Men at Work? Police
  13. Ghoti spells fish Gh from 'enough' o from 'women' ti from 'motion' Also, check out www.engrish.com
  14. I have had EXACTLY the same problem. I'm on the dnc list, I've called the DAV a number of times to rectify the matter, and now I get called only about once a month. Usually it's at 8am, a few hours after I've gone to bed. I've started donating to the ARC or Goodwill to avoid contact. If you find a solution, please let me know. I think it might be overkill to change my number. Thanks
  15. It looks like its going to be pretty cold tomorrow - high of 29, snow in the morning. I know they won't send up loads if it's too cold. You probably want to call the DZ in the morning before you head up to check out the situation. It's too cold for me, I'll just hope for next week (looks bleak).
  16. I'm going up to Keystone for my first ski trip in two years. I'll be trying the parabolics - wish me luck.
  17. This is a few years ago. I was installing a speaker in my car (I had just bought a new stereo). I was feeling lazy and didn't want to take the skin off the door to do the install... I must have been pulling the doorskin up... with a screwdriver in my hand... I ended up almost putting my eye out with the screwdriver. I still have a scar on my eyelid... two streaks leading to an X.
  18. I think that's the funniest thing I've seen in weeks!! Thanks for the laugh!
  19. The reason you can't breathe is that you think you can't breathe. It's a psychological effect, I know, I've done it. What is important is to relax... you don't think about breathing most of the time (on the ground), it just happens. Trust your body to get the air it needs in freefall. And relax.
  20. Just as long as he lets ME win! Cute dogs, by the way (re:Halloween post)
  21. The bar I used to work at has started a poker night on Mondays. The bar doesn't get a lot of business on Mondays, but I'd like to see the poker thing succeed. Starts at 7... there's a second game at 10. $0 buy in... just play to have fun. Ziggie's Saloon 4923 W. 38th Ave. (2 blocks east of 38th and Sheridan, north side of the street) Thanks. I hope to see some of you there. Luna
  22. I had the same thing happen to me. I packed in a knot on my brake lines, and when I unstowed my brakes, I realized I had a problem. I cut away and got to the ground safely to find that my main landed in a creek... Glad you're here to post about it.
  23. Way to go!! I'm still working on standing up consistently. I seem to get it 25% of the time.
