  3. Being South African, it is widely acknowldged that South Africa used to be a nuclear power, but relinquished/dismantled it's weapons before the handover of government in 1994. We had them as far back as the mid-seventies, when preparations were made for a test(1975) that was subsequently cancelled due to international pressure. Only to be carried out a few years later at sea. Though that may have been an Israeli/South african collaboration. No side will admit responsibility. (1979) Edit to add : They were dismantled in 1990 and we had 6 operational, one testing type, and another near completion(another testing type) at the time the program was shut down. And we did it with very little resources. With less than 100 people actively working on the project at any one time. Bok Befok. "In one way or the other, I'm a bad brother. Word to the motherf**ker." 7. Pffft. Whinging Pommie fuckers. I'm a south african aussie. So I'm always backing a team thats thrashing the english. And the Irish come the GAYLICK football international.(In it's defense it is better than AFL, which I detest) "In one way or the other, I'm a bad brother. Word to the motherf**ker." Eazy-E
  8. Not aimed at Douva, I'm just replying in general. I used to ride a mates KX 125 when I was younger. But don't any riding at all now. Though I am a shit-box car driver, nothing gives me greater joy than being passed by someone on a bike doing 80km above the limit on one wheel. And Squeak's a Guzzi rider. (Which implies a love of frilly underwear and soft pinks. And a horrible lingering odour) Which may explain alot And to people against jeans. Get Draggin Jeans. They're like regular jeans but kevlar reinforced. A great Aussie product. "In one way or the other, I'm a bad brother. Word to the motherf**ker." Eazy-E
  9. Howdy Squeak That was the plan, but this forums given me all the info I need, well enough that I know what books to look in. I just needed to know whether my idea was viable. Fremantly has used a different method to what I need except in the actual harbour, which I'm going to take photo's of. I'm loving DZ.com sooo much right now. 10. Cheers Everyone. No doubt I will have more quesitons tomorrow when I begin writing it up. But it's off to the library in the mean time to check out whats mentioned here. And I'll make sure I keep you all informed when I get my marks back Peder "In one way or the other, I'm a bad brother. Word to the motherf**ker." Eazy-E
  11. Could I partially fill out and base a crane on the outskirt of the reclamation to install sheet piling/cofferdams? Saves on having barge based crane and driving equipment? "In one way or the other, I'm a bad brother. Word to the motherf**ker." Eazy-E
  12. I'll even let you stay at my house... Assuming I'm livin out of home by then. If not we can sleep head to toe in my bed. but no 69ing.... unless im really wasted. and you can speak in high pitched voice. Maybe wear a blonde wig too. "In one way or the other, I'm a bad brother. 13. there is presently reclaimed area either side for a couple hundered feet. But the soil is sand down to close to 20 meters I believe. River is only 3-5m deep at its deepest point. Cofferdams were going to be my second option if a barrier needed to be formed prior to reclamation, as we need to have 2 options for the project. You guys have helped me more in 10 mins than 3 days in the library. Beer for anyone who ever makes it to this side of the world. "In one way or the other, I'm a bad brother. 14. Thought I would add a moral adult viewpoint to this conversation. Dunno whether this has been pointed out or not in this thread. But your situation is ripe for lots of ANAL SEX. Don't snip it. Take blatant advantage of your girlfriends desire to not use the pill. Hooray. edit for poooor spuling "In one way or the other, I'm a bad brother. Word to the motherf**ker." Eazy-E
  15. HOwdy thanks for the info. We're not concerned with struxctores ontop of the reclaimed area, thats another groups assignment. Just the process of the reclamation. This is for a uni project... And my main question is.. Do we just fill out from the shore...Or use barge cranes to install sheet piling and build a concrete dam(or just the piling) Maybe concrete piles vibrated in first? then start filling? Either way a concrete wall will need to be constructed as the end barrier between the reclamation and the water. Or do you dump fill in until you reached desired perimeter, and then built a concrete retaining wall? I was jsut thinking about some sort of barrier before reclamation began to prevent degradation of water quality, and then pump the water out through filers as the area is reclaimed? 16. Howdy Anyone is construction? Looking for someone who can tell my anything about land reclamation from a shallow river. There lots of stuff on the net but nothing about the actual process. I have spent 3 days in the library and come up with nothing that tell me actual process or methods.... Except for the "dump a fuckload of large rocks, compact, add crusher limestone and compact.... 17. Bravo... "In one way or the other, I'm a bad brother. Word to the motherf**ker." Eazy-E
  18. If thats the case I suspect you also freefly in a rig with a belly mount reserve(no reserve pilot chute) and two shot system. Complete with mudflap removed and occasionally packing a quilt in the reserve container. No one's telling you not to buy a rig with three rings. Ya need it...buy it...use it. The thing to remember is that if everyone thought like you we would still be jumping mil surplus. And maligning any progress that made the sport safer, for the sake of keeeping the "dangerous" element. Mainstream is a relative term. Did old timers beat on you for being mainstream when you bought your first rig with 3-rings? I respect that you have a great number of jumps of many many years, but that arguement has not one ounce of logic. "In one way or the other, I'm a bad brother. Word to the motherf**ker." Eazy-E
  19. And to make matters worse. My girlfriend does both... "In one way or the other, I'm a bad brother. Word to the motherf**ker." Eazy-E
  20. Still doubt you will ever see some dead guys kids saying "I'm so happy Daddy died when he jumped without a cypres and blacked out/lost alti awareness, shoulder dislocated/ lost handle etc." And I do listen. People with thousands of jumps have been saved by a Cypres. So there no reason I shouldn't have one. Edited to add: Some data from USPA: Year Low/no pull fatalities USPA members 1989 25 18484 1999 2 35000+ PS. Dont have money. But I will be jumping again by dec. 21. You didnt read my other post. I don't think it should be compulsory. It's an individuals decision and should always remain that way. I'm not telling anyone to do anything. But if everyone had the same mentality as you, there would be more deaths in the sport. And people with more jumps than you have been saved by them. "In one way or the other, I'm a bad brother. Word to the motherf**ker." Eazy-E
  22. "Everything changes if you're riding a motorcycle. At a fatality rate of 38 per 100 million miles travelled, it would only take me 5,000 miles on a motorcycle in a year to reach the risk level of my 202 jumps. Based on this, it seems that skydiving and motorcycle riding carry similar amounts of risk." To quote from another thread. So if you do 20 000 miles on a bike a year you stand a four times greater chance of dying. Or 8 times greater chance of dying than if you did 100 jumps a year. Your mileage may vary. But here is proof that more socially acceptable activities are significantly more dangerous than skydiving, and have a significantly higher number of participants. 23. Yup. They're national team rowers that do three 100km cycles a week. One compound fractured his tib-fib...Onto big mountain climbing, sure it is a tiny subset but I still know an Everest summiter. 3 people died while he was on the mountain. And 2 one on his own team during his attempt on K2. I never said cycling was more likely to results in your death, jsut more likely to result in broken bones. Skydiving may have femurs, but I'm pretty sure way less overall breakages than something like moto-x. I also know lots of road racers(motorcycle) who have smashed themselves up. If you go to your state racing champs there will be more metal per capita than on the DZ... Skydiving is an obscure sport. There are lots of other low participation high risk sports. Just in the last month there have been two motor car racing deaths. Which has fewer participants than skydiving. This is in Aus to put in in perspective. Don't kid yourself. This isn't the only dangerous sport. There is wide variety of potentially deadly past times. And I believe serious white water rafting to be significantly more dangerous. Same with back country skiing. Cave diving. Free diving. Shark fucking etc PS> Please don't take this as a lack of understanding the risks of skydiving. Our dropzone has had more than it's fair share of tragedy. But yes I stand by my claim that there are lots of other high risk low participation sports. "In one way or the other, I'm a bad brother. 24. Why do universities want you to write non-topical essays to get in? Seems like a fucking rediculous entry requirement if you want to study pure math. Or physics. Do all uni's require this? Nice essay btw
