  1. I dont have alot of time in the sport, but I definately feel that one DZ can have a much more safety orientated atmoshphere than others.. This has become more and more evident to me as I talk to jumpers at other DZs, sometimes I am shocked to hear what they say.. I recently was talking to one newer jumper who has decided to downsize canopies very slowly, and still prefers to pull a little higher than 3.5k, ... People have told this person that they should get out of the sport because they just arnt advancing fast enough, and if they arnt ready to jump smaller canopies they are too dangerous .. I can't imagion hearing such things where I jump, I'm more used to hearing the "dont downsize so fast" speeches. Trying to rush a newer jumper into things that they are not yet comfortable with is BS. One of the biggest areas I've seen safety concerns differ is doing things like night jumps.. The first night jumps I did the DZ required everyone to have strobes, glow sticks, and all the other stuff REQUIRED by the FAA to do a night jump. I went and did a night jump at another DZ and was shocked to see that I was one of TWO (2) people jumping who had a strobe light! This really showed to me a lack of safety minded people both in the jumpers and the DZ itself.. I didnt see one canopy in front of me until I was already turned on final, the guy had lost all of his glow sticks and that's all he had. After landing there was talk between a couple other canopy pilots who realized that they almost hit because they heard the other person fly by, both of them also lost their glow sticks... This is off topic, but seriously, a strobe doesnt cost that much.. It was also pretty pathetic that the good sized DZ store didnt sell any of them either. (first DZ they had enough strobes for eveyone who wanted one to buy, and it was a smaller DZ than the second) Personally, I have DZs that I feel safe at, and others that I just dont get a warm fuzzy.. Some DZs are just shitty when it comes to safety, and that really sucks.. I tend to try and avoid them as much as possible, although I still end up going sometimes cuz my friends are there... Definately get a feel for how safe you feel at a DZ.. If you dont get a warm fuzzy at one, but you feel safer at another (by such things as people checking others gear, reminders of seperation by experienced jumpers in the plane, just little shit) then go by your gut feeling, your probably right. 2. And, as I'm sure you've heard before, a few more jumps before putting it on your head wouldnt hurt But basicly, if it's a Sony, and helmets can hold it, and it has a LANC port (if you want a cam eye which comes in handy), and you can put a wide angle lens on it, it will probably work great. 3. Looks like a fairly established site, I dont think that the person who posted here is really trying to hide anything. Lots of good videos on there too, really enjoyed watching what I have so far and will continue to download more. My Non-Mac computer running the latest and greatest of Norton has had no issues with any of the files FGF #??? I miss the sky... 6. Hey guy! Seeya at the DZ this weekend! You gonna join me for #200? FGF #??? I miss the sky... There are 10 types of people in the world... those who understand binary and those who don't.
  7. You seem pretty happy about jumping your new red reserve. Well, if I get to jump my new (old as hell) red reserve, that also means that I probably got to experience the new skyhook as well... I'll admit that I dont think I'll be too upset, as long as it doesnt happen at the Dublin boogie because I'd hate to loose some jumping time while I'm there If she flys anything like my other PDR, she will be a pleasure to guide to the ground when the time comes. But no rush FGF #??? I miss the sky... There are 10 types of people in the world... those who understand binary and those who don't.
  8. Anything not the color of your main Right now my main and reserve are almost identical, both white, the reserve is just a bit cleaner with only 2 jumps... My new container does have a red one in it though, and I should be jumping that shortly. FGF #??? I miss the sky... 9. Taking it back to the origional question and how I saw it... I think the one time that I've seen this type of comment made most is in the incident forum, people tend to make this kind of comment when the reporters say "The jumper was an experienced jumper, with 119 jumps" and someone always pipes in saying "119 jumps is NOT experienced" .... In this situation you are infact implying that there is a number of jumps which makes you "experienced" . I have never seen it discussed whether or not that person was experienced by how they took advice, tried to give advice, etc. etc to determine whether or not they qualified as experienced like the reporter stated, which is what people in this thread have tried to answer (or not answer). Personally , I think it's pretty much a load of crap to make a comment like that in those specific forums, .. In that situation I would definately consider them "experienced", .. they are definately not Very Experienced, but they are experienced as they have completed a number of jumps prior, even though it wasnt 6000 of them. In the other sense, as far as giving advice to new jumpers and other "experienced" jumpers, that is when it takes on a new meaning. I do not consider myself to have much experience with the sport when it comes to this aspect, and there is no set number of jumps which will give me said experience. . However I do have experience with certian things, I would even say that i'm somewhat experienced with dealing with mals since I have had a fair share of them in my otherwise limited skydiving experiences. Tough question when you look at it one way, but in some ways I think it's very valid. To those of you who post to such news stories, what is the mark that you consider that fallen jumper an experienced jumper? FGF #??? I miss the sky... 10. Sweet Seeya there! FGF #??? I miss the sky... There are 10 types of people in the world... those who understand binary and those who don't.
  11. I just proved to myself last weekend that I have a much faster reaction time to digital (neptune) alti's now than analog ones.... I jumped an analog one for the first time since around jump 30 last weekend, and, well, screw that. FGF #??? I miss the sky... 12. All you CReW folks can come and give me my first introduction to CReW if you really really want to , I'll let ya... I'll have a second canopy there which is probably better for it (Spectre 170) than what I usually jump. I'm being dumb here, but it's worth a shot.. FGF #??? I miss the sky... 13. Yea, thats it FGF #??? I miss the sky... There are 10 types of people in the world... those who understand binary and those who don't.
  14. I used to set all of mine LOWER than my action altitudes, to prevent dependency, but now that I have just started freeflying I now have them set for my exact action altitudes (well, for breakoff anyway) ... Learning to freefly has made it pretty much impossible to check my altitude during the jump, and my eyes that used to be alright on belly just are not adjusted to the new view yet ... Flatline has always been at hard deck (which used to be 1800, recently raised to 2000ft) .. That is my "if I am not taking EP action now, get hot!" FGF #??? I miss the sky... 15. I would think that this would take away from what appears to me as a safety design in our rigs.... I take comfort in knowing that if I mess up a hand /arm to the point that it would be useless for deployment, that my other hand should be able to deploy one of the two canopies without any trouble or reaching, although you should be able to deploy the reserve with either arm, but whatever I dont know what I'm talking about FGF #??? 16. boogie boogie boogie boogie boogie boogie... THAT my friends, will be all. FGF #??? I miss the sky... There are 10 types of people in the world... those who understand binary and those who don't.

  18. I actually tuck my pull then tuck my chin into my chest in preperation for that nasty hard opening that I hope I dont get.... Started doing this awhile ago in preperation for flying camera, I figure the less movement myt neck sees during a bad opening the better, especially with the extra weight. As soon as I feel the first solid jerk, I look up to watch the rest of the opening. As far as recognizing a problem, if I pull, and dont feel anything within a couple seconds, I'll be looking (most likely over my right, I think) ... FGF #??? I miss the sky... 20. Ok, it was mentioned here once before, but mabey you all got lost on the way to signing up... SERIOUSLY.. We are going airport hopping on the day before the boogie, and only 3 of us are signed up.. This is clearly very sad and must just be some kind of mistake. For those of you who got lost, I'm gonna make it easy, goto this place http://www.roamingdz.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=299 and sign up!!! Come on, 5 jumps into 5 different airports, the last one being Dublin... This is gonna be friggin sweet. Get on the plane! FGF #??? I miss the sky... 21. I'm ot shooting tandems any time soon, but I tried to get the Diamond Stealth and they were on a crazy backorder,. .. Got the Way Cool Blue Eye and I think it's a pretty good lens, no complaints with it here.. The video looks pretty good. I also got the protective cover that they sell with it, which fits over the lens (like a filter, but it's not) ... I like the idea that the actual lens is protected when it's jumped. FGF #???
