  4. Hey mate, glad you didn't get hurt. Sounds like you have analyzed your decisions and learned. We all learn by our mistakes, and others, thanks for posting. I've had several out landings, fortunately made my decision in plenty of time to avoid trouble. I did land on the runway once, got my butt royally chewed for that one. I thought I would land well in front, but a wind shift gave me a downwind landing and carried me farther than I estimated. I was thinking "no low turn", should have made a gentle flat braked turn to land parallel to the runway. Anyway, continue jumping and learning. I'd suggest debriefing with your instructor if you haven't already. Blue skies, Ed "We saved your gear. Now you can sell it when you get out of the hospital and upsize!!" "K-Dub" "
  5. You ought to take him AND his attorney up and let them do a tandem - together. Would be fun to watch them. "We saved your gear. Now you can sell it when you get out of the hospital and upsize!!" "K-Dub" "
  6. I got stuck on level 5 for a few jumps, did 15 minutes in the tunnel, then sailed through the rest of AFF. It definitely helped me feel more comfortable in freefall. "We saved your gear. Now you can sell it when you get out of the hospital and upsize!!" "K-Dub" "

  9. My instructor said I was a carpenters dream - stiff and straight as a board - for my first 6 or 7 jumps. I finally got it, even though it took me 35 jumps to get my A. Hang in there, listen to the instrucors, and RELAX. Ed "We saved your gear. Now you can sell it when you get out of the hospital and upsize!!" "K-Dub" "
  10. I hear ya!! I PLF'd a misjudged night landing this weekend and saved my bacon too. It could have been ugly, instead only ended up dirty Ed "We saved your gear. Now you can sell it when you get out of the hospital and upsize!!" "K-Dub" "
  11. Yesterday I got my 100th!! 1 year and a few weeks after starting training. Did a tube exit with my buddy Montana, spun for about 3K, then went into a sit - had a video guy jump with us. Great jump, I laid low for awhile, did 4 more jumps, then when my guard was down got viciously and unmercifully pied Ended the day with a night jump. I wanted to thank all the folks who have helped get me through to this point after what I thought was a struggling beginning. First, my daughter, Katie, who just had to do a tandem on her 18th bday last year, and being a good sport, I decided I'd do one jump too. It was at Skydive Snohomish, and Vladimir was an awesome tandem master, and Tyson the DZO and video guy was great - they made the day amazing, and I got hooked. Then EVERYBODY at my home DZ, West Plains skydiving near Spokane. Stephanie, my IAD instructor, Wendy who gave the first jump course, OJ, my first AFF instructor who I kicked unmercifully during my pitiful attempts at turns that went into uncontrolled 720's, kicking his head on each pass. Then fall came, the weather got bad, and I went to Lake Wales, FL to finish AFF. They were great, and Tim, my AFF instructor got me through AFF and during my second trip there, up to my "A". Kit Cody, who I met in Lake Wales, and as a new coach, he took me under his wing and got to practice some RW moves, and lots of coaching tips. Another winter trip to Sebastian with nice people who nurtured a brand new "A" newbie, helping me learn and build some confidence. Earl, who taught me to propack with confidence. Then back to my home DZ, West Plains Skydiving, this summer for lots of fun jumps with great people - too many to name - but Rex and Pat, the DZO's (and pilot and manifest gal and all around great people), Mike the S&TA and his wife Stephanie who did my IAD instruction, some of the new but more experienced than me jumpers that let me jump with them anytime (Barney, Matt, among others), and all the skygods there that would get me in on a jump, offer advice and constructive criticism. Tod and Billy for taking pictures and pointing out mistakes. It is a great little dropzone that is like family. I'm sure I have missed mentioning many. And last, but not least, the community here at DZ.com, including Bill Von, and his canopy articles and advice (learning a flat turn saved by bacon once already - thanks Bill) Thanks, everybody, looking forward to lots more learning and fun. This is an awesome sport. Ed "We saved your gear. Now you can sell it when you get out of the hospital and upsize!!" "K-Dub" "

  13. Great job, and great post. It only gets better from here. Remember, lots of screw-ups are coming. It's great when you screw up a jump, and the thousand plus jumpers who are with you laugh it off, tell you they had fun, then give you some constructive criticism. I haven't jumped in 3 weeks, and it's driving my crazy - can't wait for the door to open tomorrow morning. Ed "We saved your gear. Now you can sell it when you get out of the hospital and upsize!!" 14. Skydive Mesquite - about 1 1/4 hr north. Nice people, nice drop zone. The dropzones closer to LV are only tandem mills. Ed "We saved your gear. Now you can sell it when you get out of the hospital and upsize!!" "K-Dub" "

  17. I am one of the 3%. Age 51 for me, when I tool my daughter on a tandem for her 18th b-day. I'm just regretting the years I didn't jump. Ed "We saved your gear. Now you can sell it when you get out of the hospital and upsize!!" "K-Dub" "
  18. #3. Got pretty consistent for awhile, but last 2 weeks with no wind landings I have struggled. I want to get some landing videos to critique my flare timing. Ed "We saved your gear. Now you can sell it when you get out of the hospital and upsize!!" "K-Dub" "
  19. Darn, I missed Wench ( I think) I know I saw pictures of the Pink Mafia Party, and I think I am heading there for Valentines day next year
  20. The scenery in Snohomish is awesome - puget sound to the west, cascade range to the east, Mt Baker north, Mt Rainier south. Nice people, that's where I did my tandem that got me hooked on this sport. I hope to get back and do some jumps there this summer. I have heard good things about Kaposin too though. Do em both Ed in Spokane "We saved your gear. Now you can sell it when you get out of the hospital and upsize!!" "K-Dub" "
  21. Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I think it is. I was visiting family in FL last week, and spent 3 afternoons at Skydive Sebastian. They were great - really friendly staff, helpful, and had some great jumps. Beautiful scenery from the air. Special thanks to Earl who gave me a mini packing course to help with packing my new ZP Pilot main which I was struggling with, and with Rob and Dave, employees that went out of their way to help. Earl even went on a RW jump with me. I recommend their drop zone highly. Thanks. Ed in Spokane "We saved your gear. Now you can sell it when you get out of the hospital and upsize!!" "K-Dub" "
  22. Another one hooked Enjoy, keep going! "We saved your gear. Now you can sell it when you get out of the hospital and upsize!!" "K-Dub" "
  23. Also consider some tunnel time with a coach. I was doing some wildly uncontrolled turns in AFF, spent 15 minutes in the tunnel, and he taught me to use my knees/legs to control the turns as well as the usual way by pivoting on your arms. It helped me tremendously. Bill's idea of using the creeper and practicing the push with your knee/leg sounds like a great idea. Ed "We saved your gear. 24. "any pointers" Yeah - be prepared for addiction, lots of money spent on classes, rigs, etc, and entry into the most exciting sport I could ever imagine. Have a ball and enjoy. Ed "We saved your gear. Now you can sell it when you get out of the hospital and upsize!!" "K-Dub" "
  25. I don't have it, but go to the Skydive Snohomish website, http://skydivesnohomish.com , and you can email them and see if Vladimir is still there. Tyson is the owner/operator of the dropzone. Ed "We saved your gear. Now you can sell it when you get out of the hospital and upsize!!" "K-Dub" "
