  1. Wow. At our experience level you tend to move your head during a barrel roll you know. And you absolutely CAN glance at your alti without changing your heading. I really dont feel qualified to comment as I only have about 2x as many jumps as you but perhaps you should reevaluate your qualifications to give advice like this to new(er) jumpers. I am sure several 1K+ jumpers will be willing to explain exactly why this is very very bad advice. (and no I dont consider myself particularly experienced).... 2. Talk to your instructors because you probably CAN do a fun jump to relax you - its just a jump with your instructors where you have nothing to do on the jump except be altitude aware and pull on time. I know a few people that were in the same boat as you and this helped them tremendously - I even know one girl that was stuck on level 4 and ended up doing another tandem to get her nerves out. You have nothing to lose by asking your instructors - it may help. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  3. Good luck. I have 3 cutaways, 2 went slightly over a mile and one landed the next field over. All of them were directly on the windline though (freebag as well). As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  4. My 2nd jump at the Farm my altimeter took a shit. I had been in freefall for a bit and it was still reading 14.6K. I was SO glad my instructors had drilled into me to use my altimeter as a backup for what my eyes were telling me. Don't get me wrong, I love having my alti there to "verify" my altitude, but it was really good to know I had a good enough sight picture that I was not dependent on it. 5. He could get a tight suit and flatfly with the darksiders.... As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  6. Thanks for the tips guys. We are starting flying with dedicated CRW canopies next time we go. As far as matching, I am loading my Safire slightly heavier than my buddy on his Sabre and I have rarely had any problems catching and pinning him. He, however, cannot close on me. Hopefully the new (new to me anyways) canopies will make a difference. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  7. The canopies on that jump were two Sabre 170s and a Safire 189, all loaded about 1.3. My friend just got a couple of dedicated CRW canopies set up so we will be using them from here out (a couple of Fury 220s with reinforced nose, red center lines, retractable PCs etc). As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  8. Did a couple of CRW jumps this weekend. Attempted a 3 stack after a successful 2 stack and I was docking last. After the 2 stack built it began descending too rapidly for me to catch - when I would front riser dive to get below, they would get too far from me to close, and when I would try and close the gap they would descend well below me. By the end of the jump I was so ragged out from riser dives I hardly had energy to flare. Any suggestions as to the best way to catch up in this situation? 9. So are you saying you are going to do some CRW with Paul and I this weekend, followed by an accuracy swoop on your reserve after a wrap? As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  10. LOL I hope she remembered to put her legs up this time. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  11. Thanks for that link - I was only familiar with the NATO digram codes... As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  12. Hmmm. MYS is Moyale, Ethiopia in the IATA 3 letter city codes. USPA must not be using IATA codes because there is no skydiving I know of in Ethiopia and there is no IATA code QAT - I would also guess QAT is Quatar... As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  13. Someone please clarify (if that is possible on DZ.com) - you are required to do 2 night jumps for the D license. Is it required that it be one solo and one group jump? If I had, say, 5 night jumps and all of them were group jumps would I still (technically) have to do a night solo? As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  14. In your case, was it dangerous because you were too low? Or because they got worse except for your intervention? I was very lucky that I was over a very large wide open field with no obstacles; I started kicking out as soon as I stopped spinning up (I did 3 or 4 360s before I could spread the risers enough to get stopped). I got the last twist out with just enough time to line up on a row in the soybeans and flare. Had I not been over that wide open field I would have been screwed. FWIW I dont blame the RSL (it performed as it should), but I do believe it contributed to my linetwists. On my 2 subsequent cutaways without it I have had textbook clean reserve deployments. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  15. I voted inconvenient but in my case I believe they were dangerous. I chopped a spinning malfunction and ended up with linetwists all the way up. A friend later commented that he had never seen a reserve with that many twists on it (he has 15 years in and 2K+ jumps). I opted to disconnect my RSL after that cutaway; I have had 2 more since then sans RSL and they were both textbook... As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  16. There is a penalty for poor accuracy before the jumper is allowed to run o the firing line. Dead center = run immediately to the line, 2nd ring = 5 seconds before you can run to the line etc As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  17. Why are you making a federal case out of a statement with which you are in complete agreement? Just to clarify for anyone reading who might be unaware of the laws regarding NFA weapons. As I am sure you aware, 95% of the population in this country would bet you their next 10 paychecks that silencers, MGs et al are ILLEGAL for civilian ownership (even the so-called 2A "nuts" mostly have no clue that you can own such things). I always try and spread the good news whenever possible
  18. . You may need to leave the Class III weapons on the ground due to the law governing their use and "transfer," but with the non-Class III weapons, they could be carried. I, for one, am NOT going to take any chances with my $5K MG by carrying it on a hop-n-pop (assuming that is what you meant). As far as "transfer", the BATFE requires that the person who is the registered owner be physically present with whoever is in possession of the NFA weapon - it was explained to me that at a range the owner could, for instance, step out to the toilet while a friend was firing the weapon. Personally I would not risk that. I am fairly certain that they could make a compelling argument in court that allowing someone to skydive with an NFA weapon they did not own would constitute an illegal transfer simply due to the fact that the skydiver could land well away from the owner, jump in a car and be gone with the weapon. And anyone who owns NFA weapons knows (or should know) that the BATFE does NOT play when it comes to the rules - just look up "constructive intent" if you dont know what I mean by that... 19. Sounds like a lot of fun, not sure if I could make the drive (it would depend on when obviously as I have limited vacation time). Can we provide our own weapons? I have a M11 9mm with the Lage Max-11 upper, slowfire bolt, .22 conversion and a couple of cans for it (.22 and 9mm). I would also have to have time to get a 5320.20 to transport from TN to FL. What type of loaner MGs would you have available? I am thinking that a full size Uzi would likely be the best for people who have never shot FA before (just my opinion). 20. You have to go to Oahu to get your jump, there is no dropzone on Hawaii. If you are not able to get to Oahu to jump don't sweat it too much - Volcano National Park will keep you more than occupied while you are on Hawaii. If you are able to make it to Oahu however, the view from 14000' over the island is spectacular - probably one of the best places to make your first jump. 21. Mine had dual steering lines. I have never jumped a Sabre 210, but I am betting if the opening are okay you will love the canopy. Outside of the openings my Sabre was a wonderful canopy in every way... As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  22. Yes it was checked and in trim, my packing skills were okay at best but it was packed by some of the most experienced jumpers at our dropzone with the same results - sometimes it was brisk, sometimes it was brutal. I tried 2 different sliders on it, one oversized from PD and one with a pocket - same results. 2 of my 3 cutaways were on that canopy, both from brutally hard openings. The last straw was 9 broken lines. And I agree, any canopy can break lines (I broke a steering line on my Safire last October) but 9? Despite the opening issues I had, I never said it was a bad canopy. I would still be jumping it if I had been able to get the openings comfortably consistant. I would still be willing to jump a Sabre, just not a 190. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  23. My first canopy was a Sabre 190. I loved everything about it except the openings - in 100 jumps on it I had only a handful of soft openings. Most were crisp, and a few were downright brutal. I finally retired it after it opened so hard it broke 9 lines on the left side and tore a cell. I really loved the canopy but I am not as young as I once was and I needed something that had more consistant soft openings. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  24. Curious, why do you dislike the idea of jumping with a coach to verify skills? Also many here seem to have forgotten that a USPA D license holder may jump with an unlicensed skydiver who has been cleared to self-supervise. An instructor is not required as long as they can self-supervise. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
