  1. Off topic DSE, but can you tell what happened to you and why? Or link to a prior thread discussing the incident? Thanks! As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  2. You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but odds are your opinion about a lot of skydiving issues will change drastically when you have more jumps and more experience. AADs have saved a whole lot of people, but they have also killed people as well. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  3. What makes you think a USPA Group Member DZ is "safer" than a non group member DZ? I have jumped at group member DZs that break BSRs and non-member DZs that strictly enforce all of the BSRs. Group Membership in USPA has very little to do with overall safety IMO. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  4. Call Mike Mullins at West Tennessee Skydiving... As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  5. Haha I agree wholeheartedly Chuck, but a funny story - did some RW with a guy from a Cessna DZ (we have a King Air) and I guess he wasnt used to full altitude - we were turning points and at 7.5K this guy turns and tracks like hell! The rest of us glanced at our altimeters, glanced at each other, and kept going to 4.5 When we were all down, he apologized and said his internal clock was screaming at him. SO, next jump the guy does the same thing! As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  6. Why do you need a signal? Don't you have an altimeter? When its time to break off, then turn and burn - pretty simple. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  7. Most dropzones require USPA membership to jump (not sure how that works with foreign jumpers) so maybe best to just get a USPA membership? I am pretty sure they will issue you a license as well (again not sure what their requirements would be for a foreign jumper) - with 250 jumps listed you 'should' qualify for a C license. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  8. This has been the law in TN for a few years now, with the cavaet that the motorcyclist must prove that the light they "ran" was a pressure plate activated light and as such would not have changed (motorcycles are generally not heavy enough to activate them). Generally speaking, most TN cops wont give a motorcycle a ticket at night or when the road is deserted so long as they come to a complete stop (like a stopsign). And sorry if this was already posted, I rarely come in this forum and I didnt read anything but the OPs post... As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  9. And just FYI (and ask a Rigger to be sure) I have been told that the Sabre 190 and the Sabre 210 are two of the hardest opening canopies ever to be produced - granted, not all of them were like that but it seems to be especially prevalent in those sizes. Great for low pull contests but not much use for that characteristic in modern skydiving... As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  10. IIRC it was 28x33 - I called PD and they made it for me, and told me to NOT jump it with the original slider that came with it. The original slider was (again IIRC) 21x28 with a pocket mod. This was 4 years or so ago so that could be wrong but it is in the ballpark. At any rate, after being briefly knocked out by one opening, going home from the DZ black and blue every third or so weekend, and then 9 broken lines I had enough. Its a pity too, as I absolutely loved everything about that canopy other than the openings... As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  11. IF your Sabre tends to open hard, nothing you can do will fix that. I thought I had my Sabre 190 tamed after a rash of brutal openings by going to a larger slider - my last jump on it that resulted in 9 broken lines, a reserve ride and some killer whiplash proved me wrong. I still have it rolled up in my closet, broken lines and all - some day it will make a nice tent or a pair of pants... As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  12. Hearse in the background: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10150319333310676&set=o.125750352994&type=1&theater As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  13. Our dropzone has a Hearse..... As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  14. If the suit fits you properly the booties should not flop around. They fit over your shoes and zip up and button at the bottom of the zipper (or most of the ones I have seen do). Once you have your rig on and the legstraps cinched down tight it takes up the slack in the suit legs and booties. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  15. I know this was a student and all, but dont you guys think there is a distinct possibility that IF the RS AFFI had released the student that he would have done his EPs from the realization that he had thrown his PC and nothing was happening? I have seen it opined on here that he wasnt going to follow his EPs but he may not have realized anything was wrong yet as his Instructor was still on the reserve side. AND, as it was his first jump, he may have just needed a second or two to "get" that something was not right - thats one of the reasons that AFF students deploy so high, correct? Its a crapshoot I suppose - I have seen (on video, I'm not an instructor) and heard of 1st jump students chopping good canopies, following their EPs to the letter in low and high speed mals, and freezing up. This guy seemed like he was pretty heads up when all was said and done though... As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  16. I have had my Neptune die in freefall a couple of times. It freaked me out the first time it happened but it ended up really not being that big of a deal. When I was going through AFF my instructors drilled it into me to look at the ground (in the airplane and under canopy, not in freefall - it was AFF remember) and guess my altitude, then look at my altimeter and see how close I was. I made it a habit to do that on most of my jumps, and it ended up serving me well when my altimeter took a shit on me right out the door. Having said that, I would not intentionally jump without my altimeter. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  17. Thanks for that explanation Dave. In addition to helping explain some of the reasons for not exceeding your training as a coach, you have also just shared invaluable info as to exactly WHY an inexperienced jumper should not be jumping with a tandem. Perhaps you should contribute this same explanation (and an explanation of the "trap door" effect) to a new thread in Safety about the differences between jumping with tandems and a "regular" jump. I would bet most (if not all) sub-300 jumpers have never even thought about relative wind and its affect on the drogue throw. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  18. Raven 218 loaded at 1.13. It opens fast, flies okay and turns super slow (probably a good thing) - I can't complain since it has saved me 3 times so far
  19. Exit weight is between 225 and 240 depending on how hot it is (I work outside all day so my weight fluctuates a bit). As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  20. Deep deep pockets. The ATR aircraft have an aluminum stepladder with little tabs on it to hook into the doorframe for the pilots to enter the plane. The TSO turned it from a $14.95 ladder to a $1,300 ladder (found that out when a member of my team accidentally hit the ladder while we were loading the plane and bent it). As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  21. Brian Germain has an instructional video on his preferred method, I am sure someone here can post a link as I dont have it. Honestly though, if you ask 10 skydivers the best way to stow the PC you will probably get 30 different methods... As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  22. Ive had some pretty nasty bruises from people taking grips when I was doing RW in a jumpsuit without grippers, although from your description of the bruise I seriously doubt that is the cause. I think the others hit the nail on the head when they suggest harness spread... As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  23. Thanks Billy! As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  24. http://www.oprah.com/own-shaniatwain/Battling-Betrayal-Episode-Clip Sorry dont know how to make it a clicky but it is linked in the very last post on page 1 of this thread. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  25. Isn't outside video on an AFF jump frowned on as a serious distraction to the student? I'm not an Instructor and I don't jump camera so no other comment on the pic, except that I would like to see that GoPro footage. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
