  1. I am only a jumper, but STOL kits and wing extensions must affect the rating.... i know there are 182's here in Canada that are wide body's and carry five all the time. bit slow to 9500.
  2. At the best chance you'll be flying cheerio's out to an oil rig. Or in something in a remote area. Crappy flying time + remote loaction = low time heli pilots job. It the same as fixed wing aviation except much worse.
  3. Don't listen to them. None are right. Gravity is a 'Push' not a pull. Its the stars pushing, not the earth sucking. http://www.keelynet.com/gravity/wright.htm I dont call it 'Jumping' I call it getting shoved.
  4. Yeah, to be clear....the TI has some issues of whats safe for the pax and himself. If his judgement is off there...what other areas? Thats all I'm suggesting. It would be interesting to hear him defend himself. Parenting comments should be somwhere in "Community" shouldn't it?
  5. Has the TM been contacted by the manufacturer yet? Was it a Strong system? If so, legally Ted has covered his ass... He could warn the TI and then if something ever happened....this thread will be a slam dunk. Or if nothing is done haul the rating away? Seems like that could be done already. Bill
  6. Yep. what he said. U- refers to cargo usage...."Utility" . our U206B has a rear right cargo door. Behind the wing. We fly with no door. Nice wind deflector though. Nice for Static line. A P206 would be a door similiar to a 182. P205 too. 'P' is for People. (or maybe pressurized?) The 'B' designation is just sub variant code. http://www.answers.com/topic/cessna-206 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cessna_206 I have 1500+ 206 exits. Front float off a U206 is not easy. if your small you can but strength is needed. Mainly, a rear toe -hang works well. an outside rail would help a bit. Nice exit pic, with plane diving in background. I have got out on the strut in a U206. Have to watch the wind deflector. Also the on strut camera box. Thats all I know about 206's.
  7. I had 400 jumps was an instructor, and decided to do an intentional. I felt a bit like a hypocrit, teaching the procedures and not having ever done it. Jump went fine, except on reserve deployment I had a 20ft tertiary cone reserve (leg breaker) and my reserve opening was quick and snappy enough to cause the velcro holding the tert to peel off and hang half open. I grabbed it all and re-sealed it. landed fine. Jumping a reserve as a main taught me more I would say, than my intentional. Go to Deland. They should have all the answers and gear. Bill
  8. Training is important. But, I like the sound of cargo more than people. I tend to believe the 'operational safety performance' parameters can allow for a pilot to 'handle' both situations (full/empty) without too many issues. I have heard a full load will be better in a gusty situations. So, to test the final product the DZO and his family should gear up maybe....not the customers. I have landed in a our 206 ~10 times(DNJ). about another 5 for trips for regular maintenance. One more - full weight for a bunch of us to check out a 182. From all that, Pavement made more of a 'impression' on me than weight of the plane. Would a tail dragger (185, PC-6, etc) be more problematic in a no power full load emerg landing? The scariest thing I've seen was an inspection port hanging off the strbrd horizontal stabilizer. I informed the pilot. He asked what it was, I said wait, and grabbed it and it took 1.5 turns on the screw to have it drop off into my hands. We taxi'd back when I placed the port into the pilot's hands. Nice walk around buddy. My lesson from that is all pilots are not equal. So get good pilots and keep them. Training is profitable in the long run isn't it? Bill
  9. I agree. But, where do the insurance companies step into the mix? They set the minimum standards for pilots to be insured don't they? I applaud the DZ's that spend a few extra dollars to keep good pilots around.
  10. I have about 100 video jumps on my Kat 89. At 1.85 t has nice predictable snivels, no issues at all. Sweet canopy. I downsized from a st 107. Bill
  11. To be a bit of a devil's advocate... Things fall off airplanes all the time. Do we ever hear about it all? Nope. In southern Ontario, two years ago, a door from a cessna came off, a part of a jet engine, and a canopy from a WW2 trainer....thats only part of one year. Seems to me, all 'pilots in command' need to be concerned. The sky surfer situation....its the same as a reserve handle that is dropped accidentally. Isn't it? Bill
  12. In artificial insemination, the identity of the donor should be anonymous. Or charge what? $600,000.00 up front? The child deserves the 'responsibility' of two parents. A good samaritan who donates shouldn't be penalized. I might set standards for same sex parents. Lots of contracts. You can't have the butter and the money for the butter....(Anon. frenchman)
  13. Lmao....do the rafts come out automatically with those doors? Phhhoooooomm ! Raft jump ! YeeeHaw ! (I guess you probably can't open them in flight) -Yeah I am still bored.
  14. So there I am ... (hypothetical) 40K and the oxygen masks come down. Is that a green light for me to grab my rig and do a pin check? Flip the lid down on my Z1? If more than one engine is affected, are you justified in popping the emergency door and doing a two way with your carry on off the wing? Handicam video going. Would that door open in flight with no pressurization? If the plane is in a dive...is it better to jump up to clear the tail? Better to throw your carry on and see? If there's a jagged hole then its much easier probably. Yeah, Im bored again...
  15. I remember this incident http://dnausers.d-n-a.net/dnetGOjg/280488.htm So would you grab your rig to do your First AFF Level one save? I probably would. Anything to break up a long flight. Bill "I always fly with my rig"
  16. Are back to back loads an issue? Or is it too far to walk? My two cents is SDAZ is trying to make it safer. I respect them for that. We don't like it too much, but we're the problem as jumpers. After 4 fatalities, its totally justified until things change. Is Eloy the best spot to train to swoop aside from jumpable days/year?? Low humidity, and high elevation? I am not on the PST...but 'competition climate' on average is what? Bill
  17. In 2 years since I started, there have been 2 people fall out of harness' Can this be explained away by increased numbers? Add a few double mals, collisions, and whew. Lots to read. I don't think your perception is playing games with you. Bill
  18. Sorry, I can't help you. But, if you put a classified ad in the classified section you may get a better respoonse. just a thought.. Bill
  19. We pretend we have a door. The pilot is ok with it. Funnily enough we don't get many no go's. lol. Enjoy the pic you turbine weenies. *Dons an airport fire fighting suit*
  20. I haven't used one except a plastic one to drop a tent in zhills in 20sec flat. Static line instructors should have a solid hook knife. Bill
  21. Keep the real job or switch to one that is just different. Then if you have too much money, go to the tunnel, start a 'girls gone wild' 4way team, buy an RV, or pay for packing. buy and test canopies as a hobby. Save for a few years then open a DZ. That the professional DZ job. or there is this way....which is easier than a pro skydiving lifestyle http://www.cbc.ca/cp/Oddities/070411/K04119AU.html Bill
  22. Well, that might change things. thanks. I'll watch that thread.
  23. We have a prejudice....nothing higher than 3300. FJC altitude Then our DZO would be happy. We can get 9500 ($29cdn)without too much whinning from him. U206B. no door where the cargo door is supposed to be. Air Canada laughs at us in the winter. very nice in august though. 2500 is 16 bucks? 17 maybe? hopnpopers are beloved by the DZO. get out early so the plane climbs better. typical cessna dz. tandems arent the greatest...but the door is nice. is RW from 4500 wrong? lol. Bill
  24. DONT DO IT. If you do you will be poor and some DZO's biatch. Do it as a hobby. Get some letters behind your name. Bill (I wish I did)
