  1. Whats up homie!!! cant wait to be the first to go DWD!! miss you man!! Paul
  2. I am pretty sure people dont do it for the way it looks. I understand that you have your opinion on how distance should be run, I also have some opinions of things i would change but ian is right. its a means to an end not a style. at the end of the day all the recent best distances (the object of the event) have come from this technique.
  3. Same reason most every canopy manufacturer goes through several adjustment linesets over the period of a canopy designs life. technology improves, the bar gets set higher, feed back from jumpers.
  4. some Really good talent already has Chris Beasley (sp) gave all of us at the world champs a very good run for our money on his velo 84. tonto could hold his own if there was a beer in it for him.
  5. i have owned several icons. i currently have one with spacer foam back pad and one without. the one with the spacer foam is by far more comfortable and worth paying for. i jump it ten times more than the other. hope this helps
  6. i have jumped all zp, all sail, and hybrid, i have around 1500 jvx jumps on various sizes and configurations, and i have about the same experience on various velocities (excluding sail material on velos). i have competed at three world meets two with jvxs. pm me for specific size and loading questions, i guarantee some useful info
  7. one of the other things that creates uneven distortion on the velo 96 you have pictured is that it has one cell in everythree that is closed off completely at the nose and has a different pressurization as the rest. but you are right about the cell structure of normal cross brassing techniques, ie those used on most production canopies. it still leaves alot of room for improvement.
  8. not sure about winglets but there is definately less drag without STABILISERS than with
  9. I have tried various sizes and loadings on the JVX from 2.0 right up to 3.2, and i have found that optimal loadings vary for each discipline. for example i like 2.0 for accuracy and 2.2 for freestyle but i like 2.7 for distance and 3.0 for speed. but this is all on larger than 90 square foot canopies (except for speed) this may not scale down with smaller canopies as drag and lift do not scale down proportionately in my experience. if you can only get one canopy for an all round performer then i would recomend a 2.5 wing loading provided you have the experience and training to fly the wing as efficiently and safely as possible. if not then a lighter wingloading is always better to improve skills on. I would get the attachment point unless this is only ever going to be used for swoop specific jumps and it also helps with resale if the canopy can be used in a standard configeration. i would get the competition trim and lineset as this will add to your performance with the canopy. if you are getting an all sail material canopy in the 96 square foot range then you will need a container that is built for a 150 standard canopy ie non crossbraced. this is good because it allows for a much bigger reserve which is always safer than smaller even for expert pilots. as far as release for the z brace or any other prototype cell structure.. who knows but my best guess is there is a lot of R&D to be done and i imagine it will be years not months before we see those sold to the general public. pm me for specific questions if you like i have owned many jvxs as well as other stuff. hope this helps
  10. you dork next time ask me about sizing. palease sista!
  11. dont blame Hans for the way you turned out!!!
  12. I am going to try get over to europe if i can. the british nationals are going to be in germany (Swoop) so i will try do that and a couple other things if possible. Thanks Chris Paul
  13. I have competed at many many competitions put together by Chris hayes and the PD Boys and they are top noch!! I cant wait and look forward to it! Chris will there be some sort of PD swoop tour next year ? ie more events than just this one! sort of a new Pst (PD swoop Tour)
  14. This is absolutely true and i had no problem with that. What i had a problem with was in february 05 the PD factory team (who are all close friends of mine) received canopies that had more advanced changes that went into cell structure as well as lines. I agree being on a factory team should have its advantages but not in competition where that technology is not available to ALL competitors. Swoop competitions should be exactly that: an event to see who has flown better for that competition. If it comes down to who has better toys because of what factory team they fly for, then it really becomes a marketing event and not a "competition" I think that the perks to being on a factory team should be limited to being able to travel around the world swooping on the company budget and making awesome videos. leave the developmental canopies to the test specific pilots or have an ultra class for that. my point is .. make it fair.
  15. The PD factory canopies (since the world cup in lake wales) have differences that go beyond the lines. differences that you cannot get with after market rigger mods.
  16. Not directed at Swooper81 The PD Factory team has not been jumping 'stock' velocities for years now. The unfair advantage is that if joe blog makes an identical swoop in every way possible to mr factory pilot he will still lose. whats the point in competing? you have to swoop better than a factory pilot just to get the same results!! tell me if you think thats fair. what i love about the JVX is that for me, in florida where even small local competitions involved competing against the PD factory team, I can at least have a chance of winning. since i started flying the JVX i saw that for some reason overnight i started beating the PD factory pilots and nothing but the canopy had changed. I was a die hard Velo pilot too! Racing cars have engine restrictions so that the competitions come more down to skill and preparation not whos got the best toy. IMO swoopiing should have an even playing field. The JVX does that. For years i had friends who were excellent pilots but they refused to compete because the factory teams had an unfair advantage. Now at least three of them started competing because they got HMAs on their velos or got a JVX or something. sorry for the rant just my opinion
  17. The wind conditions were almost identical to when Jay made the record at mile high. the only real difference is that nick was at only 300ft above sea level and was flying a 79 JVX. it truly is an impressive feat!!
  18. I agree its a lot like out of the blue! still much better than their first dvd attempt!!!
  19. Hi Dave. I see no person so far has addressed this so i will give my two cents. Assuming you mean that by positive recovery arc it climbs back up after you level out from a high performance landing. If your samurai has a positive recovery arc (Brian germain canopies tend to have different flying charecteristics within the same design ive found) then increasing the rotation and speed is going to make it climb more as you will increase the lift. I have had the same problem on some prototypes i have jumped. if you are looking to step up then you will need a canopy with a steeper trim also. try Sabre2 mamba katana etc.
  20. sorry but in view of your spelling history it seemed the right thing to do
  21. I have it on good authority that any one with the initials M shimmel will not be invited to the party
  22. Joe and mel are gay but their sliders rule. i have over two thousand jumps and their various sliders and they def rule. Paul
  23. Bloody Canucks!! The conditions have been tough and people have done well to deal with the conditions. John Zuliani is definately looking in great form! congrats so far. the wind has been within the limits for the most part but has been really erratic. some people have been hosed including myself but its looking like today will be really nice. Paul
  24. thanks dude. just completed third round of zone acc. about to do three rounds of distance. i suck at zone acc. but distance is coming.....watch this space.
