well said Chuck I think there is a lot of untapped potential out there that just needs a push in the right direction. Competing is fun and is challenging even to the people who have been doing it for a while. the more people involved the better the whole thing becomes. it also incourages learning that EVERYONE benefits from. hope to see more people there. Effects of altitude on swooping
proswooper replied to teamhypoxia's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Spizzarko is absolutely right and not only that, the tricks that tonto is talking about in eloy were things like blindman supermans and things that require a large amount of dragging feet. this definately kills a lot of air speed and with that , distance maybe there is a point where as you go too high the air becomes too thin and the distance is affected negatively although the speed is still high. could it be that there is a point where the swoops will be furthest. right air density/ altitude and perfect execution of turn. somewhere higher than sea level and lower than some of those really high altitude DZs i wonder. we should go on a mission and swoop all the dropzones in the world at all the different altitudes and see if one really consistently produces higher results. who's with me! -
Well done Dee and Congrats. You are a very strong and wonderful person and you showed us how to be positive even in the ugliest situation. when is the house warming because i am definately going to bring a BIIIG bottle to help celebrate!! big fat hug Paul

the point of the seal is not to prove anything after a cut away but something to look at before you put your gear on to know that nothing has happened to the reserve since you last jumped your gear

Hi dont forget the tri is a seven cell and is going to land like one.meaning it will need a one stage constant flare depending on wing loading. the pilot, being a nine cell semi elliptical midrange canopy should seem more responsive and you will 'feel' what is going on more. which should in theory make your landings seem a little more managable. i personally think you should have no probs going back to the pilot. but be relaxed and stay aware of what is happening during the flare. just my two cents but getting a canopy coach to watch what you are doing will help a whole bunch i change between those two canopies regularly for test jumps and aff and stuff hope this helped Blue ones Paul

saffer is such an ugly word. i prefer dutchman or clutchplate or afrikaaner owe. very nice job chris putting this all together. everyone has improved incredibly! thanks Paul
-
i think it is good that people are pointing the obvious dangers involved with higher wing loadings on a reserve but lets not detract from the topic too much. only good info on the smart reserve please. thanks
-
the smart bares no resemblance in design to the tempo and is a more modern up to date seven cell design with higher standards of reinforcement coupled with good opening and flying characteristics. i would suggest phoning up aerodyne and getting a demo smart to jump as a main. they fly very much like a triathlon i have five jumps on a 110 loaded at 1.8 for shits and giggles. it has a huge amount of lift compared to a tempo and picked me up more than the pd 113. i have no emergency rides on one but i have seen two. one subterminal and one terminal. both opened really quickly and both pilots where happy to say the least. my two cents
