  1. Hey Rob, This cat hadn't made it far enough in the progression to consider that yet. He was just being taken care of by a buddy at the other DZ and was a danger to alot of others. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  2. After reading the thread I feel if WE know so much then WE should put our name on the ballet. An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  3. I went and I knew why I was going. No Lie in my opinion. Kudo's to your son! And to you for being a supportive parent. If you saw the various forms of intel and the first hand scene you would see that a lot of the bad things that Iraq had going on still are in the dark waiting for all the victoms and facts to be sorted out. Other wise I think Bush would have already won. As a soldier of 18 years I could not vote for Kerry, it will cost me to many friends in the long run. And if he is elected agianst my vote, I will retire. An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  4. I got the great forune of doing a Demo at the Muncie Summer Heat Airshow where Kirby was flying. You think the Vid's are cool! Stand on the centerline DZ gathering your gear while he is 50 feet over head! The dude is the national and world champ for a reason! He can freefly a Plane! Oh he is a jumper too siad he does his jumps in AZ where his wife is a Otter pilot! Too Cool! Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!

  6. Hey John, Just wanted to clarify my previous post. I thought the goal of the AIC was to get all Course Directors on a simular sheet of Instructional music. That is why I made the Old BIC reference, since it was designed to start us all on the same sheet fo instructional music. And I figured (probably incorrectly) that very few would want to attend an AIC course and not already be an instructor. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. 7. My understanding is this is for after you get an "I" rating and are looking toward a Course Director position. I have not been to the course but have talked to a DZo who is an AFF-I, SL-I and T-I. He stated it is very simular to the old BIC course in theory. Trying to get all Instructors teaching under a simular method. Maybe all of us "I's" can get more info as more attend the course. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. 8. I got 2 brand new sized the way I wanted wings in 4 weeks. OF course the weather in Florida is affecting any thing skydiving. You may want to go with aggiedave on finding a stock rig or used rig at a dealer on the west side of the US, just to make the boogie. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. 9. John, I agreewith your first post on the Freefall and Jump Badges. Many of my teammates are trying to hit those goals as it is still significant even in this day andage of turbine aircraft and 365 day a year DZ's. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. 10. I had one who went through a "hybrid" course at another DZ that happened to be closed on this particular weekend. After reveiwing his log book and confering with the DZO I set him up for a SL PRCP jump, he became real upset for the "demotion" as he put it. He did out standing on the exit and we went up on freefall to work through his progression. The DZO and I decided to pick up with things where he left off at his other DZ. At least that was the plan asweread over his log book. Apparently Sit flying is part of the cat D through "A" license program at his home DZ. He was not happy when we wouldn't sign off on his progression since he insisted on sit flying during the 2 freefall jumps hemade before the DZO asked him to leave so he wouldn't keep yelling so loud about how f'd up we, the DZ, USPA and any Instructor within sight was since we "obviously" didn'y knowwhat we where doing. He was and is my gold medal recipient of the ass award. An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  11. I have met a lot of Contact wearers who use sunglasses wit h out issue. But as an instructor I would prefer you to have clear goggles so I can see your eyes when we jump. Once your off student status all the choices are your's. Many compititors and instructors prefer clear lens' for the same eye contact reasons. But sunglasses do come in handy at the begining or end of the jump day due to the attitude of the sun. Talk to the folks you jump with and in the end due what makes you feel comfortable and safe. 12. The Jumper was right for being concerned but wrong for his technique of yelling at you. AggieDave is correct do this technique under the supervision of an instructor who is experienced at it too. Braked approaches is "usually" for Accuracy and Demonstration Jumpers (at least to the extent you mentioned. Seek advice and have fun. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. 13. as Bilvon said kick in a way that you will continue in the direction out of your twists. Additionally grab the risers with your knuckles to the rear and thumbs down you will get a better grip and thus better leverage. Make sure your paying attention to altitude and where the canopy is going through all this, docking for a little CRW while in twists is adding big time to your troubles. 14. SO this place looks real familiar! OH PA! I remember now! Spent a week there a few years ago, how is the Gang doing? Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  15. TSO 23-c is the test standard. Having been on board the CASA when Ted Strong sends his tandem reseves out for a test is impressive. 600 lbs at 200 kts at 500 ft! They opened evry time on heading and with out damage. (perks of being in the military) An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  16. Oh our team we had 20 rigs with an even split between spandex and cordura. We had less hard pulls with the COrdura pouches. We now have all cordura pouches on our 14 remaining rigs. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  17. 8 out of 10 on target. Got cocky and missed the 180 degree wind shift. I have a demo tomorrow so that was good practice, now all i need is a duck suit and a round. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  18. We have a new rigger on our tem and it took him about 3 repacks to get that nice clean look. It took me about 6 to get it right. But now after 3 years of packing them it is pretty second nature to me. Racer's screw me up pretty good though! Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  19. My Sabre 135 has not given me any trouble. I was taught how to pack it by Paul Rafferety, you flat pack it on its side. Split and roll the nose, 4 cells on each side stuffed into the middle cell and then rolled about 4 turns. Fold the A lines back to the B lines and stack on top from there. Once you have the tail wrapped around the whole pack job ensure that the tail over laps itself to help keep the pack job from "exploding" on openning. It isn't real hard to pack and makes it pretty easy to control. I do the same on the Stilletto 150 and 135 at work. An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  20. I jumped out of the "old" frankenotter before the paint, but what did it look like before Charley helped it out to get "franky" again? An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  21. Skydive Paris of Paris TN has been tempoarary shut down by the Airport manager and Mayor of Paris TN. This has been an ongoing battle between the Mayor, his rich King Air owner friend, the Airport manager and the Owner of Skydive Paris Johnny Reyes. The FAA was summoned by the IArport managment to do a saftey inspection, the DZ was declared Safe by the Memphis FSDO Inspectors. The Airport then withdrew their permision letter. The FAA found the Airport "In non-complience" with the public access rules. The FAA then told them there will be a hearing on the matter 23 Sept. The FAA will inform the Airport that theywill lose the Federal funding they rely on so much for Aiprot improvements. Additionally the local militry may stop buying fuel as the Airport once found in non-complience will be against the military policy of equal opertunity. This recent action by the airport management has closed down the closest USPA GM DZ to Ft. Campbell KY. Making it difficult for military jumpers to find a DZ to jump at. They now only have 1 choice for a DZ within an hour of the post. It being a Non-USPA DZ makes it questionable on if a soldier is allowed to jump there (it depends on who reads the Army regulations and how they interpret them). It also reduces the chances at getting new jumpers to enter our sport as now we are with one less DZ in the region. The DZ may have only done around 300 tandems a year and had 25 to 30 students progress through the "A" license but for a single C-182 DZ that is only open on weekends it is pretty decent. Just thought you fellow skydivers would want to knowwe may have lost another DZ to "rich man" politics. An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  22. My team has had to buy 2 sets of reserve pilots chutes and handles over the last 3 years and all totalled idn't spend that much! (we have 12 Wings containers) Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  23. I had lasik done 1 month prior to attending the RWS Exminor course and 2 months prior to deploying for Iraq. I have never been happier. I still have a bit of slight astigmatsm that is only noticable at night. Do the recovery right and you'll be happy
  24. I do a lot of tandems at a small 182 DZ that has been Primarily Tandem and Static line. We do offer the IAF program but the hardest part is getting the AFF-I's. I would think that if you can keep 2 or 3 AFF-I's, then all you need to do is sit the staff down and tell them how you want the T-I's to teach to help the AFF-I's and vice versa. 25. The fun in watching that 1st jump joy and exhiliration. The challenge of making it all go right even when the "student" try's to "help". The learning experience, no tandem is ever the same nor "just another skydive". Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
