  1. The dreaded man arch. It's been the nemesis of many but, fear not, there is hope. As a former(and possibly world's worst) man archer, I have developed a fo sho cure. A. stand, feet shoulder width apart. B. look up. C. Squeeze the butt cheeks. This method has cured even middle aged man archers and should work for you. The key to understand is to get the hips forward. By looking up and butt squeezin' it will cause this to occur. If it was hard, none of us could do this. Good luck.
  2. As did another instructor at his other home DZ. miss ya too much................

    A funny.......

An instructor says to the student," I want you to get the 1st chute out. If that doesn't work, I'll get the 2nd one out. If THAT doesn't work, I'll scream in your ear, Shoe, Shoe! I want you to take your left shoe off and put it down the front of your pants. Now, this won't help us at all but, the coroner will spend the rest of their life trying to figure out how that shoe ended up there."
  4. Just goes to show how something we take for granted, can have such devastating results. This obviously could have been a very different outcome. i change risers on almost all the rigs i get if it isn't new. good lesson.
  5. Cleqrly a case of bullies with a badge. Every time I have been involved in an altercation, I stop when submission has been achieved. that's what training does. These thugs have none. the law needs to be applied to those that caused this. Irregardless of whether they wear a badge. Fuckin assholes.
  6. Not sure here, what exactly do you want/need?
  7. Little to do with the subject however,I know the USPA sells our names to whoever. Including insurance companies. mite want to keep that in mind when you see your premium go up. i had them take my name off it for that very reason. Nice to know yer donkey. But, then again, the speed of the leader is the speed of the pack.
  8. Not sure if this has been covered but, does anyone have any experience with these? Seems like a no-brainer to me but, since it hasn't been widely used, I figure maybe I'm missing something. I know they've been used on the records and they worked well. Love to have this for my students.
  9. just goes to show that if you say the most ridiculous things, buy enough beer, do enough drugs and try to convince yourself (and anyone else gullable enough to believe the horseshit spewing out of one's mouth) that there is an actual chance that you might get someone to believe almost anything.
  10. BASE IMO is far safer than skydiving when done the right way. What's the most dangerous part of a skydive? besides the drive there and back. Getting into that possible coffin called an airplane. bridges and towers rarely fall down. buildings and cliffs present their own challenges and need to be treated as such. I've taken quite a few newbies on their 1st jump and it's been very rewarding for them. Don't listen to the naysayers. It can be done as safe or safer than a jump from a plane.
  11. Howzabout everyone becomes deaf and mute at the same time? Really dude, you're trying to create an extremely unlikely scenario to justify what appears to be, by everyone else's response, an unjustifiable position. keep it simple. At 9500', stay put. let the pilot do their job. once they are set, they will tell you what to do. Unless of course, they had a heart attack, bailed out without telling anyone or suddenly forgot how to speak the local lingo. Let me guess, you were one of the one's that bailed out early at Midwest?
  12. Mystery place. 145,673 to 1 if you must know.
  13. After trying to make a full time job out of skydiving for the last 3 yrs,. I'm wondering. is it really worth it? By far the lowest pay for the amount of time invested. Very hard to get other things going because it was necessary at the last place I was at, to put so much time in. I finally got fed up and quit and am wondering if it's worth going thru another summer of it. I have another business that pays MUCH better but, I miss jumping. I really enjoyed being an instructor and after investing so much in time and energy to get all my ratings, I hate to just walk away. I hated being enslaved by the management at the last DZ I was at. Seems like the last concern of anyone in this sport from DZO's to USPA is the ability of anyone to make a living by doing this. No ins., no benefits, and you can be replaced by the next 500 jump wonder that walks in the door. Anyone have any thoughts on this?
  14. I just left a DZ where the rotation was completely geared toward making the DZ money. The full timers ability to make a living doing this was the absolute last concern. They proved this week in and out, time and again. They told you that you would get all the work you could handle. This never happened in the year and a half I spent here. The work load was heavy. Every tandem got an altimeter, taught to pull, hands on the toggles on landing and the 2nd tandem taught to exit, turn and track. Logbook was filled. Never paid extra for this. After I left, the rest of the staff had to practically do a mutiny to prevent them from overstaffing. Again. It really amazes me how short sighted some DZO's can be. I fail to understand how a constant churn is beneficial. Apparently, as long as they can get away with this and the staff tolerates it, things will continue. Really is too bad. Could be a great place to work and jump. At this time, till a major change happens(management, owners) it will be a place to avoid. Like the plague.
  15. I back SteveO on this one. Show me 5 instructors/skydivers that agree entirely on ANYTHING about this sport and I will die happy. The hyper criticism that is constantly delved out is incredible. It's not done to improve anything(though it is often hidden behind that), it is only to feed the "I am greater than thou" attitude and to feed their own inflated egos. Thanks for posting your reply. I couldn't have come up with a better way to reaffirm SO's point if I tried.
  16. Ok. I have a Century .55 lense for my CX100. I'm being told by someone at my DZ that this is not an HD lense and my camera will not record in HD because of this. I called B&H and they tell me this will not effect the recording of HD and it is more or less the lense of choice for this setup. Makes sense to me. Anyone got any input? DSE help please!
  17. Having been an AFF, S/l and now STP instructor, I've seen a LOT of good landings and some not so great ones. The ultimate responsibility is on us to get down safe and sound so we can go do it again. Part of the training where I currently work at is to go thru our landing pattern and canopy ride plan. My final question is always "Now (students name), even if your radio falls off your harness or my radio fails to work or suppose you have a Bozo like me telling you to do everything wrong, do you still feel that you can get yourself back and on the ground safely? I usually have a pretty good idea of how they might do and if there is any doubt we review till we know. It's come in handy a few times. Hope this helps.
  18. I knew when I 1st learned of what happened to Dennis, that there had to be more to this story. I spoke with his son Eric and he told me this; Dennis was following behind a service truck that had a large box mounted on the back. This vehicle made a right turn in front of Dennis and the other vehicle that was on the same street pulled out to make a right on to 288. They didn't see him behind the turning truck. It appears this was just a terrible tragedy. I also understand this was a young family with 2 small children with them. The fact that we all lost a dear friend shouldn't be overshadowed by the terrible guilt that they will have to live with. Dennis was one of the most kind-hearted and forgiving people I ever met. I think I could hear him say" Oh Shit!" Followed by" Fuck It!" Love the idea of the roadside memorial.
  19. They had demo's in Sturgis last year. like riding a snowmobile. Not surprising because the co. that builds it is Ski-Doo. Fun buy, give me one less wheel.
  20. Thanx for all the responses. I agree with the fashion show statements(you should see what I jump now) but wanted to see if others knew more about this than I do(they usually do). I'm gonna pass on this idea and live with it the way it is. But, it is houndstooth, Yuk!
  21. Does anyone have any 1st hand experience dying a container? I have a used Oddysey with houndstooth fabric and it appears some fading on a corner. Fabric appears to be in good shape and the rig is a good fit for me. Would simply like a different color. Want to go solid black. Any advice/experience would be helpful. Thanx
  22. As amazing as it is to imagine a TI allowing a passenger on a plane without a properly adjusted harness, it's almost as amazing to see how the blame is put on anyone and everyone that can be tied in with this horrible and completely preventable trajedy. I have never worked at Aerohio but I did spend some time with Tim and Sherry on occasion. They both struck me as caring and responsible people. Tim had a business outside of skydiving and to think that the only reason someone would go into this business is money, clearly hasn't been jnvolved in that side of it. Especially in the northern areas. I find it impossible to believe that this behavior would have been acceptable there(or anywhere) as business as usual. If it was, why hasn't this happened sooner? The ugly truth is, that an individual fucked up and nobody caught it. I'm sure this individual has to live in their own personal hell for being responsible for what happened and I doubt anyone can imagine how terrible that must be. I'm not excusing it, just recognizing. Seems to me, a prudent eval of the facts, a bit of cohesiveness among the membership and a real desire to improve things instead of unnecessary fingerpointing might improve the situation. Leave the irrational ridiculous speculation for the courts, they seem to be pretty fucking good at it.
  23. I've been suggestiing to everyone within earshot to aggressivey buy Imax and NWS( Newscorp, the owner of 2th century FOX) The movie will be a huge hit cause everyone will have to see it for themselves. Sell the position next week. Buy again on any pullbacks. Imax will be releasing the next Twilight series July of 2010

    Dexter

Showtime rocks and Dexter rules. Go back and watch the series from the beginning. Just amazing writing and incredible storylines. This season has been really amazing with John Lithgow as the Trinity killer. They killed Keith Carradine(Ironic?) No Limits. Too cool!
